I’ve loved this great Club since my early childhood, which is a very, very long time ago! Premierships aside, this arvo was one of the most memorable, both for the agonisingly slow start, and the astounding comeback!

We played with unparalleled heart after quarter time, as if there’s mountain that’s too high …….. and the result is now in the record books.

If this is DEMON SPIRIT, then bring it on in spades!

DOF -

my Top 5 wins prior to today and not necessarily there and not in order:

1987 triple-treat: Rd 22 v Dogs, EF v North, SF v AFLney

1994 QF v Tankers

2021 triple treat: Rd 23 v PBP, PF v PBP, GF v Dogs

1990: B2B Rd 22 v The Family Thuggers, EF v same

1988: PF v Tankers

today v Tankers

Watching the replay I have to admit those 2 HTB free kicks in the last Q would not normally be given and we were lucky

In other words Id be furious if we had those paid against us.

spot on - an impossible game is afl to adjudicate

Got to admit in the first half I was having some very uncharitable thoughts towards Fritta

Yeah Fritta waiting for marks.
Had about 3 intercepted cause he waited for the ball.
And Salems early efforts .... Woah Nelly 🤬

It's worth listening to the whole call. Brilliant stuff this.

That was so much fun...the second half anyway.

Has to be said...CJ goes off and we seem to play better...coincidence?

Loved it, looking forward to watching the replay. Was pretty down in first half, reminded me of 2018 prelim with West Coast...but damn that second half was oh so sweet!

I haven’t seen a replay, but I thought the one against Hewitt was clearly an umpire error. The one against Evans was correct - at least from a HTB perspective. There’s an argument he was taken high, but you see heaps of those not get called high.

100% the Evans one was the correct call, you can clearly see a fend off just before he lowers his head. Great umpiring there.

I was listening to a blues fan podcast last night and I’d say they’re as shattered as we are buzzing. They’re shell shocked.

Yep, agree on both counts.

That said, in the first half we copped some shocking frees against us, and perhaps more significantly, frees not paid - the amount of throws, HTBs and scragging of maxy let go was infuriating.

Wanted to highlight Caleb Windsor third quarter blitz. Hopefully the coming of age for him because he really got us going i though.

12 disposals, 3 tackles, 3 score involvements, and staggering 249 metres gained.

Harvey Langford has had a slow start to the season but he for sure has the temperament to succeed. He kicked his goals when they were needed, has brilliant marking ability and set up a couple of goals as well.

The kid has real bottle and I reckon of all the players on the list I want kicking a set shot under pressure it would be him.

Easily his best game for the year, despite at times it being an 'almost' game for young fella. Had he clunked that mark in the goal square and converted truly, we'd probably be talking up his output a hell of a lot more. Still, credit to him for converting our first. One could only imagine the professionalism it would've taken to shun any negative thoughts regarding the pressure of converting our first major after 55 minutes of game time!

The last quarter , free kicks have always been harder to win. It’s been that way for 40 years,

But we can wear the colours with pride this week. And we should all do it

Loudly and proudly. Go Dee’s.

I thought I saw Kolt help Cripps up off the ground soon after that goal. Om 🙏

Next thing he’ll be snatching pebbles out of people’s hands.

I saw that too. Good sportsmanship got the last laugh

Hewitt raised the ball to shoulder height with both hands. Even tho it was a split second that action made it 'prior opportunity' as he could have hand balled unimpeded while raising the ball as the tackle was about hip height.

Evans did a fend off type action first which is prior then ducked into the tackle.

Stayed up far too late watching the full replay last night, couldn’t turn it off! Latrelle surprised me on reflection, didnt get a lot of it but some classy touches showed composure well above his experience when we were coming back: that kick to Fritta in the 3rd was exquisite. Once he builds more body strength (get him in the gym with Koz!) he will be another weapon.

Langford & sparrow looked much better & enjoyed Langfords 2 goals

Langford looked gassed. I reckon he’s recovering from illness. He looked absolutely buggered even in the first.

Langford is definitely carrying, or recovering from something.

Another question Was that Jaydn hunt congratulating Fritta. In the rooms after the game. Only saw it once, not sure.

I disagree. We were fantastic all game (and have been all season) at kick disposal when we are hot. Kick bandpass, kick or tap on. The umpires rewarded us for that and punished Carlton for running into traffic or taking possession when hot.

🤔🤔Well.... kinda 🙄

Yeah it was, a bunch of the old crew were there including Jordie McKenzie, Mark Jamar, Jack Trengove and a few more.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.
