The Melbourne Football Club recently honoured two of its true greats, Robert "Robbie" Flower and Hassa Mann, elevating them to Legend status. Club president Steven Smith said the honour is reserved for those who "have defined eras and shaped the identity of the Melbourne Football Club". Sadly, Robbie passed far too young in 2014, but his brother Tom, who also played with the club, paid a wonderful and emotional tribute, speaking straight from the heart about his developing years as a youngster in a close-knit family. He shared stories of their parents supporting their sons in school and sport, helping Robbie reach the pinnacle as captain and champion player and a much loved person at the Demons.

There were brief moments of excitement when Robbie’s son, Brad was coming through the ranks. He played for Sandringham Football Club and was considered a possible father-son selection in 2003, but unfortunately, he never graduated to AFL ranks.

Fast forward to today, Robbie's grandson Jett Flower is making waves in the Eastern Ranges' squad. As a bottom-age player, Jett's not draft eligible till 2027, and with no special eligibility rules applying, he's not necessarily destined for the Demons. Given the family legacy, he's got big boots to fill and I hope this doesn’t put too much pressure on him, but I have little doubt that the Melbourne faithful have their fingers crossed 🤞🏻 for success in his future.

Fact, MFC has NO hold over him whatsoever, and he can be drafted anywhere if he is good enough!🫨

Call it MFCSS or whatever, but watch him become an absolute jet of a player, then get drafted by a totally different club, with the media suddenly pushing for "Grandfather-Grandson" picks to be allowed, meaning every other club suddenly gets priority access to young talent while we watch this guy rip up the AFL.

Looks like he might be a bit on the short side at the moment. In the past, the Coates League used to hand out jumpers with the lower numbers going to the shortest players. The number 3 suggests that he needs to grow a bit.

His Great Uncle Tom was 6ft 1 and played 26 senior games and he has him covered!

Would be a travesty if he is AFL worthy that he did not play for the Dees.
