Was beaten 1 on 1 more than a few times, and doesnโ€™t seem to have much awareness. Think Sam Frost.

Jeepers! That's not good

CJ-Ball

Totally Agree Sam Frost 2.0

I donโ€™t care what the stats say - missed targets by a mile when open and running with the ball.

Might have just had an off day but his foot skills have ever been his greatest attribute. I love the way he takes the game on

I donโ€™t think heโ€™s Frost-like - just a poor kick. He creates time with the ball and looks like he has some kind of plan. But he simply missed multiple kicks under minimal pressure.

We can be better...

I do like much about our new game.

We can evolve both

Yes we can.
And I've got the patience to let King do it.

'tis a pity we couldn't get XT on to the ground for some valuable minutes (him being another choice for half back)

Although, it looks like he might do a bit of grounding at Casey (basic training per se)

Sounds like an ACL for Kentfield. Nathan Jones wasn't very positive.

Oh Shheeeit reaฤบly? Shocking news two young players Jeffo and now Luker who both have shown something now have ??? On returns

Must be Max Mmoose Heath time!

Our key talls are going down like 9 pins, unfortunate for Kentfield.

Windsor and Langford were fantastic. The tap work from Gawn was sublime.

Team V Saints

B: Lever, Petty, McDonald

HB: Jiath, Turner, Salem

C: Langford, Steele, Lindsay

HF: Chandler, van Rooyen, K.Pickett

F: Fritsch, Miocek, L.Pickett

FOLL: Gawn, Rivers, Windsor

I saw that this is the last week for SSP players, so yeh he would have until Sunday night if they boot him.

A few positives to take away.

Windsor played as his preseason suggested

Roo looks better with proper ball movement to lead to

Were on track to kick 100 points 2 weeks in a row

Weโ€™re good to watch again

Negatives

Kentfield doing a knee just as he was looking to find his way at afl level

Defence looks shaky, there will be times we get scored heavily against I feel, but given his interrupted preseason petty will be better

A shortened game effectively gives the saints two games match fitness over us come round 1, which is disappointing as on what weโ€™ve seen so far Iโ€™d otherwise be very confidentโ€ฆ

I get that.... but it wasn't the thrust of my thought ๐Ÿค” ๐Ÿ˜‰

Well.... the weather... right.... ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ™„

Apart from Batmans unfortunate day there was a lit of good about today. Strangely ( or perhaps nor for long time readers lol ) many of the real positives for me revolve around the things that DIDN'T go quite so smoothly. It's good imo to find out these things at a real dance ( not with sisters ).. as we can see that these are things to work on.

Some things, well quite a lot are starting to click some...mehhh. I thought against the Roos our defence was iffy... again today... there was iffyness.

Over to you Kingy

North Melbourne scored 60 points and tigers wouldnโ€™t have scored many more. What else do expect?

Just got home from a 4 hour round trip to see just over a half of footy. Loving our new attacking intent and the midfield looks so much more dynamic without 2 x you know whoโ€ฆ.we may win less of the ball this season but look far more damaging when we do get it, some of those chains off half back were beautiful to watch. However it is tempered by the two teams weโ€™ve played so far who look very bad, be interesting to see how we stack up against a stronger outfit.

How did Kolt play in everyone's opinion?

Maybe SM#1 will do the right thing and retire gracefully.

pretty average.. went to the backline in the 3rd but that obviously didnโ€™t last long

Giving away a 50 because of running through the protected zone sums up where he's currently at for me - just not particularly aware of what's going on around him.

Frustrating to watch for mine, there's a lot to work with but it doesn't seem to be coming together for the moment. It feels like he's having to think/overthink what to do all the time, which then slows him down and exposes him to being tackled or forced into a rushed disposal.

His goal from outside the 50 was well done though, credit where it's due.

Neither were quality scoring teams but we certainly made it hard work at times.

When we play REAL teams we will be opened up if that is the defence we offer. That's the point

Well, this is going to be an up-and-down season until they fully nail the gameplan. The top teams will expose us on the turnover until they tidy up the defence. CJ has terrible disposal caused by rushed kicking when he can just slow down with it and can get out of position early. Howes panics when under pressure but will get better during the year. The good news is that there is a bit to like; forward entries are a hell of a lot better than the last few years as they seem to be trying to look for someone in a better position. The overlap was chalk and cheese compared to the last four years, and as they get fitter, it's going to be fun watching us do what sides have done to us. Shame about Kentfield; he, Roo, and Brodie will change the dynamics a fair bit, allowing Fritta, Kossie, and co. freedom to roam around. All in all, a great start, but we will soon find out how far we have come.

Iโ€™ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we wonโ€™t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything youโ€™d like to ask or say below and weโ€™ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourneโ€™s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time atย Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.
