Yes, that was in the part I quoted? And yes, still very cringeworthy.

I think not and no

For me and all those that critise the club re: Oliver and Trac trades, this was the key quote i found most relevant.

“And we could have stuck with Clayton and Christian, no problems. But we finished 14th in 2024, 14th in 2025. And if nothing changes, then nothing changes. And we’ve made the decision that we don’t want to finish 14th again.

Both of these players are over the hill and were not contributing to the team given we finished 14th consecutive. We were not getting better with them in the side, so getting 3 first rounders to help turn over the list is a better outcome.

Agree on Oliver. I think those writing Trac off will be in for a bit of a rude shock next year.

Read again. This is the quote in my post;

I think if you do the points it actually comes out to a number one pick. We have traded Christian Petracca for a number one draft pick. It’s pretty cool.”

Yep, cringeworthy. It's not 'cool', and nah you didn't trade him for a number 1 pick.

Why bring in a group of new people into the club IF we are going to question and second guess every thing they say.

They'll be judged by their actions/success, not by their words.

We have a new regime and we just turfed two MFC hall of famers, with members having deserted us all year

It would be incredulous if the new leaders didn’t get out there and talk about what we’re doing.

As I said...

Yes, we have had a big trade period and some things needed to be addressed & spoken about.

My personal opinion is that we are overplaying it.

I think you're missing the point. We've finished 14th 2 years running with key players wanting to leave and/ or creating locker room tension

Do nothing and we may well have finished lower or the same in 26.

Doing nothing was not an option and by clearing out fragile players or troublemakers and replenishing the list with top 12 picks places us in a stronger position

Time will tell but it's a strong message to the group

I’m not missing the point. I could have discussed further about the previous failings of the admin and FD to build on a premiership winning list and record membership. They mentioned back in 2021 that they wanted to continue to contend and build to become a club similar to Geelong and not bottom out. We’ve gone from a position of strength to being a borderline basket case again.

I can only speak for myself, but I’d rather the club have built an environment where players like Trac could see a future here. Like I said it is what it is, those things have happened, they are in the past and the current admin and FD are trying to correct course.

That doesn’t mean as a member I can’t be [censored] off about what has happened and just give them a free ride. I do agree that they had to do something which is again why I said it is what it is, and again that doesn’t mean I have to be happy about where we are at.

I hope the new course correction works, but I won’t pretend the club hasn’t squandered the position they were in. Blind optimism won’t fix that.

As is everyone Dr. Gonzo, that is a given But they need fresh air, encouragement, acknowledgment when they say the things that need to be said, when they bring the right type of people into the club when they do the hard yards and make the hard decisions. This is the time to breath again, create some much needed positivity, actually start to enjoy the changes, look forward to the draft, the pre-season and the start of the new season. There is plenty of time to get angry with the coach, the players, the game plan and all the little vagaries that tend to upset everyone. This is the beginning of a new era but we need to give it a chance the same as we did with PJ and Paul Roos, we are in much better condition than we were in 2014.

Anyone know when we start pre season?

Don’t quote me. But I heard someone say November?

I thought it would be a bit early considering how long the season already is but maybe it’s light work just for fitness? Not sure.

Wow. The little white ants already nibbling around the edges.

This club should get a pyrethrum sponsor.

We all feel your pain. It's been excruciating to be back in this position

Meaningless.

Yep, pretty much, I don’t disagree. Was an odd comment for PG to have made.

The winds of change has certainly been the new way

Smith, Guerra, King and Co have been in the place for a very short period of time but they are not mucking around

Reminds me of when politicians get into power at government level ... the first 100 days and all that

For 10 years our team would often revolve around the influence of Oliver & Petracca but no more

The team is going to have to reinvent itself but to contend, we are going to need a number of gun players

That might take a while

For me, it was the easy part. For many, even most people, removing Goodwin in itself would have been enough. New coach, new game plan, new dawn, positive spin etc. etc.

The hard part was taking Goodwin's departure as just the start of the necessary changes, and then carrying through on what really needed to change.

I don’t think removing Goody was easy at all

He was our only living premiership coach

He was very close to this group of players

He was contracted so meant a financial hit to sack him

Easy thing would be let him coach out his contract and hope he turned it around

Also, highly doubt Clarry gets traded while Goody still the coach

He had to be the first domino to fall

Since 21 our trading in exp talent has been poor yet we lost talent

By his own words Goodwin said it was right to sack him, couldn’t define their next purpose, his protection of Oliver and dealing with players behaviour goes to the core of it all & why Trac is gone. 2 years too late on Oliver…

If the account of the Steven May meeting is accurate, I have a new found admiration for him.

I think Maysie has always been pretty direct, honest and wears his heart on his sleave kind of guy. He's also got that burning competitiveness and is at heart I believe a team player. I actually think he'll work well with Steven Kings style of leadership and game style.

I see it as a real positive that he'll be around to help develop the next generation of our young defenders. Also think Lever would feel lost on the feild if he didn't have someone to argue with like May.

You obviously have a different threshold on your cringometer than I have Dr G. I saw it as a tongue in cheek comment. But c'est la vie.

Don't disagree with that and I'm not being too critical though it may sound like it. Overall I'm looking forward to seeing what King does and the turnover in the list and the new regime of Guerra/Smith when he takes over as President.

I just want to see how things play out before I start patting everyone on the back for a job well done. Ultimately the only thing that matters is success and they will all be judged on the results of the team.

Where's Mr. Fence?

Are these the same people who wouldn’t sign up again if Goody wasn’t sacked, maybe we still need a bit more of a clean out Or mindset change of a minority of our Supporters. I for one have just renewed three premium memberships for 2026 which will be our 28th consecutive year as members. I am just hopeful that my health holds up to reach my 30th (just celebrated my 80th) and by the way I was a Goodwin supporter right to the end.

I threatened to not renew unless there were changes

I've happily renewed and i'm really looking forward to next season now under a new coach and different game style

Eeyores only know one way. Sad really.

Some of you guys need to lighten up.. Saying it's "cringe" because he said it was cool for the draft picks we got? Honestly...Grow up.

We have gone from an administration that would not tell us anything, to one where we are doing everything they can to keep us constantly informed, updated and keeping it quite casual in terms of how they deliver the message making it feel down to earth and less corporate and it's been a breath of fresh air.

Can't win with half of the people on this thread, it's so depressing. Go and exercise, you'll feel better and be less annoyed at everything in the world.

Agree. Picks 30, 45, 56, 58 & 73 might also equal pick 1, but are nothing like it in reality, unless you are holding them for a FS / academy that would actually be bid on at pick one.

Guerra could have just left it at something like "it gives us an additional 3 opportunities to bring in top end young tallent over the next 2 drafts, which is a great outcome in the circumstances, so well done to the list management team."

This points system is a farce and provides way too much of a discount on elite talent. It's something that I think needs a significant work over to bring equalisation back into check. Should require at least a pick in the same round and, maybe then you could make up the remaining 'points value' with odds and sods.

17 hours ago, bing181 said:

No-one from the club said that.

That's fair... although it seems like the club was happy for afl journalists / commentators to say that on their behalf eg others saying in the media "From what I understand, they want a player. They don't want just picks." Which probably was a tactic to try and get Humphrey / Walter etc
