Humphrey and Flanders

Much better idea. But Mihocek in via FA pretty much erases Spargo compo… unless we trade for Brody that is

I loved his quote when he was interviewed at the airport:

“Yeah happy to be at the Gold Coast Suns… at the moment. See what happens”

I wouldn’t be overly ecstatic if I were a Sun supporter with that level of enthusiasm by Humphrey Bear.

Personally I'm sick of seeing AFL players being interviewed at the airport. The football media ...indeed most of the media...in this country is squalid and infantile.

Imagine the Gold Coast suns managed to turn Flanders and Humphrey into Petracca and Curnow

Can you imagine we turned Oliver and Trac into Humphrey and Flanders 🤞🤞🤞

Surely that's the only way we let them both go.

You new to footy?

When it comes to Gold Coast it's as if so! Blind spot on my radar; can't think why!

So mine was a genuine question if anyone can help?

I’m drooling at the thought

He's a very good young player, inconsistent but will improve with maturity. Tough, goalkicking half forward/mid, opportunity to develop as an inside/outside mid with good disposal who can kick a goal.

I said it in the other thread and I’ll reiterate it here

Why the [censored] would Humphrey want to come play for us?

We can’t even get Flanders to commit at this stage and his only other suitors are bloody St Kilda and Essendon. Essendon?!!

Collingwood don’t have any cash and Carlton are as bad as us.

Maybe we haven’t gone all in on Flanders because we have our eyes on the real prize!

Curious if Carlton do trade Curnow what picks they'd have to throw at BH.

Whats BH worth in a trade anyway?

I would definitely prefer your counter if we can get it done…

But I do think Dees need to give up 2026 1st to get Bailey. Maybe Dees get back Suns 2026 2nd round pick as well.

My intuition does tell me Bailey & Sam are keen to play under King. King (aka ‘The Hammer’) and the MFC actions with a No BS approach in this last week has already set a culture for success moving forward. I do believe it is attractive to incoming players… The next 2 weeks will tell. Hopefully my intuition is correct.

Humphries, Pickett, Langford through the middle would get me to every home game for the next decade.

(Sadly so would Laurie, Sparrow and a re-listed Dunstan. I’m painfully rusted on)

I’d be happy to put Tracc and our future first on the table for some later stuff back.

Suns out of Curnow chase.

No [censored].

Can’t have both plus keep their picks for their academy guys

And Carlton’s price for Curnow would be even higher than ours is for Trac.

You would have to through in a second round pick as well, the value is this trade is freeing up cap space!

It is also readjusting the age profile of our list where our existing core midfield group of Gawn, Viney, Trac and Oliver are all in the back end of their careers. We will save having to spend high end picks to draft elite talent 18 y/olds who we then need to develop for at least 3 years to play in the midfield.

Bailey can I interest you in a house and land package out in Cranbourne?

Post of the pre-trade period 'trade talk' um, period, change my mind.

Nows the chance for King to display his legendary skills of persuasion to get them to come.

He's 0-3 so far.

Pardon my cynicism.

Edited by Redlagged

Can someone remember what we were supposedly prepared to give up to trade up to get Humphrey in his draft year. Wasn't it something crazy like 3 first rounders?

As much as I love the look of some of the proposed trades here - I think we'd have to pay more if we were to get him (if he's gettable)

He’s inheriting this mess and trying to clean it up. So we can’t hold these losses against him. Plus as far as I can see he’s really only 0–1 . Judds loss feels the largest in terms of building.

I wish him well and a lot of luck.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #3 Christian Salem

Salem proved to be a valuable contributor as a reliable and solid one-on-one medium-sized defender in what was undoubtedly his most impressive season since the premiership year. He remains a highly capable rebounding option for the Demons as he approaches his 200th game at the club.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #4 Judd McVee

Following an injury-interrupted start to the season, McVee struggled to maintain the standard he established in 2025 as he pursued an expanded role within the team structure. He remained a firm fan favourite and the club had hoped to negotiate a new contract with the former rookie selection from Western Australia, whose partner, Lily Johnson, plays for Melbourne's AFLW side. Those hopes were dashed when he expressed his desire to return to his home state and play for Fremantle. Like all players who have worn the red and blue and are leaving this year, we wish him well in the future.
