What a get he would be.👍

What's the bet Petracca is doing all he can to poison his mind against us.

I think there will be a bigger push next year. His management will have a longer run to get GCS on board.

Problem is there are probably a handful other clubs that will now be aware of the situation.

From a footy perspective, there is a good chance that we could become abysmal and drop to the levels of West Coast, North Melbourne, Richmond, which would make coming back to Melbourne FC in particular less attractive.

I feel like we had our chance this year and failed to make it happen. Time will tell whether XT and Trelly end up being the better alternative.

Me too. And if that's the case, Gold Case will want to trade with a year left rather than the year after when he's out of contract.

Someone remind us what the particular emotional, social and/or 'football' connections he had with us?

As to attractiveness from a football perspective, the 2026 performances of our new and new-ish young brigade might be more important than ladder position?

I am happy with those two.

We can try again for BH next year, but I would be just as happy drafting two more good kids and saving the millions.

Another Langford and Lindsay would be a great addition to our revamping list.

I hope there's isn't an ounce of truth that he was interested in coming to us and we couldn't get him over the line. I'll sleep better at night if we were never a chance.

Because you know if he wants out again this year, the big boys such as Hawthorn, Collingwood and Geelong will be all over him and in front of the line.

I had a chat around the water cooler earlier. A very reliable source told me that Bailey Humphreys is still keen as mustard to be a Dee.

I've had to sneak to the toilet cubicle to type this.

Will continue to stalk the water cooler over the next few days.

More to come.....

Only 10 months to go. He's almost here. 🫣

He may not have come this year but this thread produced some of the best GIF work ever seen on any forum anywhere. Sure a few thought they could pull off the 4 GIF post and failed but there was plenty of truly excellent double and triple GIF work. If he puts his name in the ring again we must stand a chance considering our potential draft hand and cash in cap at year's end.

I don't believe this for a second.

Without any mention of a BBQ or a portaloo, it's simply not credible information.

Water cooler yeah? Nice try, but doesn't cut the mustard.

I note his close mate Blake Howes signed a contract extension with us last year, just saying.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
