A genuine surprise. Very impressed that this was not leaked ahead of time.

Last I heard it was between, Bucks, Kelly or Lade but I guess the media was guessing just as much as we were (surprise, surprise)

Love them or hate them, Geelong have been the AFL benchmark in the 2000's. I think King will be good for us (fingers crossed anyway!)

No doubt Bucks was in the 'yes, pending better offer' camp. I can see why we didn't go down that direction.

Maybe โ€˜weโ€™ donโ€™t leak after allโ€ฆ

I'm actually happy we didn't get Buckley. Seemed less likely by the day and with every article by Caroline Wilson, or by the AFL about Tassie. Timing seemed very peculiar. At least King has been recently active in coaching.

I for one would like to thank the club for giving my brother the opportunity to send me 'evil clown face' gifs with no context.

My god this place is unbearable.

FFS if Buckley was not 100% committed he wasn't the right guy.

There were lots of questions marks around him, both with his average coaching history, the time he spent away from the game, and his desire to do the job. But of course the usual suspects are bitching and moaning, because the media TOLD THEM Buckley is the man, and now that he isn't, it must be because we are a basket case and not because, wait for it, Buckley just wasn't that impressive or that committed to the job.

If you hate this club and think everything we do is so bad, please just put yourself and the rest of us out of your misery and leave.

Premiership player at Geelong in 2007, Premiership assistant coach at WB in 2016. Knows how to win them, not just chase them

Is Kingy the Right Guy??

I think he is too close to the players๐Ÿ˜‰

We live to fight another day Roy!

Encountered this when Amorim was appointed at United, 8 months younger than I, that did not make sense.

Itโ€™s another Neeld appointment, itโ€™ll be a disaster, membership will drop by 10,000, we wonโ€™t get to 50,000 next year, itโ€™s just a bad choice

I played footy against Kings school in โ€˜96 when he was already drafted to Geelong. The Cats wouldnโ€™t let him play in the school footy team, but he was very chirpy from the sidelines.

Itโ€™s only been 30 years, so he has some work to do to win me back over.

Having a 10 year coach isnโ€™t a prerequisite in my view and anyway we donโ€™t have King probably until the GF weekend anyway. We would have lost nothing by waiting.

Can I have next weekโ€™s Tattslotto numbers?

We're going to need a dedicated thread just for horror gifs and random Demon King comments.

Is this the beginning of the end for the no-ts-no-bs thread? How much overt silliness can one footy forum retain?

It has restored some faith to see the football club act in unity, with effectively zero internal leaks regarding this process. Massive credit to the board for finally giving some stability and direction to the club.

Looking forward to the presser.

I think any aspect of life needs a serious-nonsense/silly balance. So bring it on.

Ooooh but wait till Buckley's Tasmania starts crushing all before it.

'We missed the chance...' etc etc.

I like we didn't go with the safe option of Buckley. King has been captain of Geelong and a premiership player. He's been at a few clubs for experience & learnt off some of the best.

Gee the media were certain it was bucks.

New CEO has started & there wasn't a leak.

I thought we'd have to wait a couple more weeks. Did they just have the 1 interview?

Not going to lie, part of me wanted bucks so if we had success it would annoy the pies fans & Ed

Had a 2-5 record at the Suns as caretaker.

Gerard Healy has been raving about his credentials for a good 2 years now (and I always tuned out as to the reason why).

Not critical of the decision, but I find it a bit odd that he'll still be coaching Geelong, but good luck to him in his flag endeavours with the Cats. Don't we need a coach hands on deck to sort out list management?

He's on deck in 15 days. Not a problem

'King stoked !!!

I had come round to Buckley in a big way, but if he wasnโ€™t ready to commit to the club this late into the process then he wasnโ€™t the right choice

Congratulations to King, who has done a great apprenticeship under some of the best coaches of the modern era

Hope he can follow the recent trend of guys like McCrae and Kingsley who can come in and make an impact early

Who was your pick as coach?

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmyโ€™s inclusive bannerโ€”"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwoodโ€™s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.ย

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecastโ€”20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze โ€” expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kateโ€™s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwoodโ€™s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
