In his comments during the year about us and our games he would often say that 'they seem an unhappy club, Melbourne' and talked about our pressure or lack there-of at times. Generally had a lot to say that was positive about specific players and tactics.

Seriously, I'm pleased we've gone with an experienced assistant rather than a recycled senior coach. The last recycled coach who coached a team to a premiership at his second go having not succeeded first time round was Malcolm Blight at Adelaide. And that was in the last millennium.

We'll never know (at least, I hope we won't because it would be a breach of confidentiality) but it would be very interesting to know what value the various members of the coaching selection panel brought to the process.

I still don't get this stand against recycled coaches. As long as they weren't hopeless i'd have thought five years as a senior coach was better than five as assistant. Blight went to Adelaide as a coach who nearly won a GF and as a player won the Brownlow and Magarey(?) medal. Buckley nearly.......

Anyway we didn't choose Buckley. I just know he may well been a great choice. Surely another recycled coach will emulate Blight some day.

if buckley does get the taswegian job, he'll have had 7 years between afl coaching gigs

I guess Buckley chose between coaching a real team and maybe winning a flag and a shed load of money and AFL handshakes

Process was too quick? if you can’t decide in 5 weeks if you want it, that’s your problem. Don’t put that on us

Only when a team/list capable of winning a flag appoints one. Which isn't the current situation, or even likely to be. The tendency is for experienced coaches to be appointed to struggling or at best, mid-table clubs.

And how are we going to get that info and what matter of interest is it?

It was a unanimous decision I believe from the Coaching Panel so it seems 1/7th was the value from each of the members.

Talk about wanting irrelevant information and yes we won’t know except what has come out about Guerra’s question to Buckley and Brad Greens public announcement to the press and us members via an email. Both seem quite appropriate actions.

agree, he’s already right on the cusp of having too long a gap between coaching jobs. It’s one of the reasons I was never 100% on him

It’s not a stretch to see a Tasmania role turning into a Head of Football/Ambassador/Mentor role rather than the game day coach.

Buckley is spinning it that he did not want to commit before talking to the Taswegians implying he knocked us back. However, others were prefered regardless. No need to rub his node in it at the monent.
