Titillating highlights

Love the pick. Needed another x factor forward and got one.

Dunno some are saying he only played 2nd division ressies, will he get games this year?

Highlights are SANFL (Glenelg) 'twos' level, I believe. I'm looking forward to the recruiting team's observations on his readiness for and path into our AFL 'ones'. Might be a short-term element of 'project'?

But exciting in the bigger picture!

My nips don't know what league he was playing in

A good pickup I say. Its clear he has loads of natural ability, flair and he has his older cousin to help him adjust to the rigours of AFL training and professionalism.

May well play early in the season. Has good endurance and did a good 2km.

Promising rookie me profile. Will allow Kosi to play more mid and be extra dangerous when he (Kosi) drifts forward. Speed and X Factor - i like it.

Latrelle Pickett Draft Profile - Aussie Rules Rookie Me Central (formerly AFL Draft Central)

STRENGTHS:

+ Scoreboard impact
+ Speed
+ Vertical leap
+ X-factor

IMPROVEMENTS:

- Defensive work rate
- Exposure

The idea that we would use a pick 12 to keep koz is a nonsense.

The key factor I reckon is, as you suggest, it means koz can play as a permanent mid who goes forward occasionally.

We need koz in the middle as otherwise we have no leg speed in there - well, that and the fact you want koz around the ball as much as possible given his damage factor.

And it goes without saying Taylor thinks he has the talent and potential to justify the decision.

BUT the Koz connection is a big, big bonus and almost certainly a factor in the call, for example instead of taking Cairn or Doveston.

For one thing, what a great way playing with your cousin is to help create an environment LP can thrive and love being in.

Ditto for Koz.

And Wheels must love it as it just adds to a really strong core of young indigenous boys, for whom McAdams and Koz are leaders and great supports.

I'll be honest and say I've barely watched any vision of him (but I will now - ill watch every bit of vision I can find on YouTube).

But even so, I have to say I just love this call.

In Taylor I trust

Sometimes the whole is greater than the sum of the parts .

This could be amazing....or bog ordinary.

Im just going to think A...rather than B

Pickett to Pickett....

We've kind of joked about this....

And here we are 🤔🤔🤔🤔

Until otherwise shown... bloody awesome 👌

Some very nice field kicking in those highlights

I remember seeing cousin Kysiah’s highlights when he was drafted and some, myself included, thought “just highlights” 🤗🤗

Except for that tackle.

That was something else.

Kozzy will be looking for Latrelle on field too. He looked for Shane McAdam when he played and tried to bring him into the game. Krakouer-style!

So happy with this pick. Was hoping we would pull a sneaky & draft him. It’s absolutely a win/win for the club. So exciting

That’s all I remember from his highlights bin 👀

Welcome Latrelle!

Gut reaction that it was overs to take him with pick 12, but seeing Kozzy come on stage and hand him his guernsey absolutely warmed the heart

And there’s no doubt we need a small fwd with X factor, which he has in spades

As always will back in JT - and hey the last time he “reached” for a small forward at pick 12, it worked out pretty well

I remember the behind the scenes video of the recruiting group watching that highlight on the draft coverage. They all knew it was coming and still laughed with beaming smiles.

‘I think I’ve definitely got it in me’ to have a great career. Love the confidence in himself.

It’s almost impossible to compare Pickett's path to the draft as a “reach” with a player who’s been in the Coates League for years, playing APS footy - managing diet, training, game structure, approach since 13 years old. These kids are known for years they are potential AFL.

Pickett is from the Tumby Bay league outside Port Lincoln - he's on a rapid rise. This worked for Kozzie - may or may not for Latrelle. But geez I’m Excited to go to the footy next year - which amazes me as my favourite ever player is now a Giant.

Add Steele, Viney, Rivers and Kozzie too.

We aren’t short of mids, we’re short of a cohesive midfield that has played many games together, to which, the only way to get that cohesion is for them to play together.

Yes, and in the case of Rivers - this Lindsay kid makes it even easier to keep Trent in the midfield.

Sparrow also would want more time in there - I am not the biggest fan as he is one dimensional but you need that dimension, it just tends to be for Viney or Steele.

Which brings us back to the point - we used Petracca’s value to replace Judd and to get Kade and Kozzie a friend in the forward line.

A fine way to spend picks just outside the top 10.

wrapped with this, some players just have it, latrelle is one of them, a defenders nightmare, will excite the faithful for a long time and will be a genuine difference maker in games. the price of that is better than any bog standard 22 disposal game sometimes.

on his own merit he wsa selected and i think he should be aiming for 15-20 games of senior footy next year i see no reason why he couldn't play a full year deep inside 50

Oh dear maybe I'm pedantic but Binny is slipping.

First Doveston then McAdams - are there 2 of them ?

What a great fella and such a good attitude! Kozzy is the favourite player for one of my kids and me. I don't think there's anything as enjoyable at the footy as seeing him go absolutely wild (as my kids say) "skilling and ankle-breaking" his opponents.

The kids were jumping on the couch with excitement at this news and at seeing Latrelle's highlights. That's gold and I know they're going to enjoy going to games again.

I'm delighted with this positive attacking-minded selection that also honours family and Aboriginal culture.

I hope Latrelle lights up the big stage and emulates or even exceeds those mercurial moments that his cousin has: You know when you're turning to people around you incredulously asking: "What? What did he just do, Nah he can't have!" And waiting for the replay to appear on the big screen because you can't believe your eyes.

I'm looking forward to the cousins getting on some crazy buzzing wavelength where they dance through and around defenders making fools of them. The moments when opposition fans hate us, but can't help but have grudging admiration for the skills.

Welcome

Helps that he has had to go through a few hardships to get back into the system, moved away from home and his friends and family to pursue the dream, shows he has really matured since he missed the draft as an 18yo. Should be able to have an immediate impact if he puts his head down over the preseason

Wasn’t thrilled we picked him so early, but now he’s a demon I’ll embrace him. Hoping that him and Kozzie light it up on the G together in red and blue for many years to come. He’s mature age and has got a decent fitness base, so it’ll be interesting to see how his development is handled by the club. We need another dangerous small forward since Kozzie is playing more midfield, so fills a need too. Small forwards are just about the most important role on the ground at present, so he can have an impact.

Welcome Latrelle!

Have only just watched the draft replay on Kayo and was shook to my core that we selected LSP with our second pick. Alongside Taylor, I really like these picks.

LSP and Taylor will hopefully allow both Kozzy and Rivers to rack up more midfield minutes next season.
