Not sure I’d want him playing alongside the young list they have if I was North Melbourne

Bernie Vince was not a poster boy either, but he served a very important role in a team that needed his type.

Vince was a bit of a larrikin.

May, on the other hand , has a long and well-known rap sheet.

No, he isn’t the devil, but he is also not a great cultural addition to any club, let alone one with young impressionable players.

And he’s 3 years older than his premiership year and showing signs of decline.

One for a more experienced club who can handle him I would have thought.

I think his toxic traits are being a little blown out of proportion and most of them are born from an ultra competitive nature which could also help instil a bit of accountability and ownership in a backline such as North's - who have no real "dogs" back there.

In any case - for his price (free minus wage) he can't be any worse than Darling.

I like May, he is a premiership hero. Never forgotten.

But he is a notorious goose. He’s been punched in the head by two separate teammates at different stages of his career for goodness sake!

Here a Collingwood mate who is going to throw in his membership. He has been told May is going to The Pies.

They never do though.

Over what? Getting a gun full back for free?

Can’t be a moral objection with Maynard and DeGoey on the list.

Melbourne fans seem to love to pile on players who they feel no longer meet their expectations.

May is on the wrong side of 30, and has battled a couple of serious injuries this year including concussion.

He was asked to hold a very young defense together for most of the year, with Lever missing so many games. He was also asked to continue to play on quick small forwards, something he’s just not quite capable of doing anymore at his age. That’s hardly surprising.

He is still a very good solid defender one on one. He was instrumental in many of our wins this season. And while there is definitely some cultural question marks over him, he’s always represented our jumper on the field with pride.

But by all means, let’s discuss why we should have delisted him and kept Fullarton instead. Coz I know who I rather as backup in a final šŸ™„

Who next year takes;

Curnow?

Elliot?

Thilthorpe?

They will boo him today and spend all next year screaming it's just a footy act.

Turn it up. Have a look at their coach. A rap sheet longer than the Snoops. He'd be a perfect fit.

I love the ā€˜I’ll burn/throw away/ microwave my membership’ crew. We all know one.

High cross-over with ā€˜people who are happily stopped on the street by a TV crew to share my views on a current affair’.

I'd like to keep May now given the departures or Trac and McVee.

Unless his behaviour and attitude is untenable. Who aside from within the inner sanctum would know?

Must be getting a very good deal at North. Good for him!

End of second round will end up being a mid 40s pick which is about right

Sure, but compensation doesn’t take into account draft compromises

The compensation is based on the value of the new contract a player gets. For us to get an end of second round pick for Charlie, means he’s getting a decent deal at North.

Not really. We got the same for James Jordon.

Looks like no May for Collingwood?

Nor the Dogs.

With all the other noise - if he is such a problem - pay him out if we can’t get him a home.

What a disgrace to recontract him before the start of the year. Lamb must be held to account.

Ummmm. Lamb has really sacrificed us and still has a job !!

May to pies, dogs oranyone frees up another $800k to throw at Humphries or similar. Together with Trac and Clarry's savings, we have quite a war chest building

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven MayĀ

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.

Salem proved to be a valuable contributor as a reliable and solid one-on-one medium-sized defender in what was undoubtedly his most impressive season since the premiership year. He remains a highly capable rebounding option for the Demons as he approaches his 200th game at the club.
