Hardly a surprise at this point, but Jake is going around again!

EDIT:.....And apparently TMac is as well!

Wise decision.

Apart from anything else, he’s very affable and eloquent, and an obvious forward line coach moving forward

T Mac as well. Great news for both veterans 🔴🔵

Interesting decisions for a club without a Senior Coach. It restricts the next coach's plans...unless the decision has been made as to who the coach will be and he has agreed with the decisions.

Pfft, and we’re that terrible club that nobody wants to be at. Turns out Nibs is the only one who’s gone and even then he didn’t want to leave, he had to. He left reluctantly. Believe what y’all wanna believe but Tracc didn’t wanna leave, nor did Clarrie.

Oh, and Fritta. He loves the MFC. Has said all along the only way he’d leave is if he’s booted out. He doesn’t wanna be anywhere else.

My thoughts exactly. Same with letting Chocco go.

I'm very happy with Tommy Mac getting another year, and okay with Melksham getting the same.

However, I don't understand why we always rush into locking away veterans and rookies prior to the trade period, and I especially don't understand doing it when there is no coach in place.

It significantly impacts our options in the trade period and in the drafts, so we end up with sub-optimal situations like taking Johnson in the national draft when he could have been a rookie.

Ummm. I read and don’t often post and I have NO recollection of saying we are a terrible club.

two of our better performers this year; take away the age factor and it is a no brainer. Melky provides an x factor up forward and TMac was the most consistant defender of the big units all year (inexplicably dropped halfway through the season)

I’m not referring to you and I apologise for seeming to. I’m talking about the widespread belief that we are steeped in bad culture issues and that no one wants to be with us.

These days players who are professionals and look after their bodies can play well into their 30's

Melksham was our best fwd for the year and is hardly tall. He could go around for a couple more

And T Mac is consistent and reliable.

Even if they have to play some games at Casey they should be in the 45, no question

Barring anything unforeseen (eg. injuries), the first three rounds of 2026 will see some huge milestones:

Round 1: Tmac 250 games & Salo 200 games

Round 2: Melky 250 games

Round 3: Maxy 250 games

I am pleased to see Tmac and Melksham go around again. They are two of my favourite players but it just highlights how bare the cupboard is that there are no youngsters on the list to challenge their positions.

Demon Army got some work cut out for them

2 veterans who held the fowardline and backline together this year. Good to see they will be there in 2026. Sadly it does show how poor our younger KPF's and KPB's are.

Excited! Okay they are "old" (hahahaha, wait til they are pushing 60) for footballers but I thought they might go round again because there was no immediate retirement notice. Tmac is playing better than he has in years. I guess that lisfranc injury takes a solid year or more to get over. (Which might be the case with Fritta too - he had the same didn't he?)

Spot on JCB.

The 30s aint what they used to be!
Great to see two players going round again after very solid years.

Awesome news. The young kids will learn a lot from these 2 great clubmen and ultimate professionals.

I’d like to see Jake offered a coaching role (forwards) while he is still playing.

I’m more than happy with these decisions. The ‘on field’ contributions of players have been great this year, and I have little doubt that they are strong ‘off field’ contributors as well. They’ve earned their opportunities.

Further, their experience going forward will be invaluable for both our younger players, and the new coaching team, regardless of whether they are playing with the big boys, or at Casey.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.
