POSTGAME: Rd 24 vs Collingwood

Featured Replies

Proud of our effort tonight but geez we have some dumb players

1g 5b in the last was never gonna win it

Crying out for players with composure that can hit a target

Steven May just go. Take your big mouth with you

Poor ball use and no system when the heat is on, if we can just wave goodbye to Viney, Petracca, we may be ok.

Looking forward to some new players in red and blue and a new coach next season.

At least we fought out the last game. Might've seen the last of some stalwarts tonight.

Thanks for a bit of positivity.

I hate losing of course, but our games v finalists Footscray and Colonwood showed glimpses of hope with great ball movement. Now we need to tweak skills

Looking forward to a far better 2026 (unless Neeld comes back to coach 😡😮🙄)

Our best footy stands up

Our worst footy is below west coast.

Dish up games like this and beating brissy in brissy. Then theres 10 goal losses against North. At our best we are a top 4 team. No wonder goody was sacked.

Mini.isi g the gap between our best and worst is the key for summer. Let's hope whoever that is in charge delivers the hardest [censored] preseaon ever and our fitness levels are beyond elite

Yeah we lost and yeah it was in our usual predictable way fizzing out and missing shots and yeah it was against this team that we just can’t beat and yeah we had our chances…

But there were brief glimpses of the team I want to see more of.

2025 can, and will, get right in the bin, but as a diehard Dee, I’m conditioned to look to next year. And I will.

We have a lot of things to fix and some holes to plug. Big holes. But if we start making some good decisions, and work on our basics, we can be right in it again.

I hate those mugs. Must work on knowing how to win and taking chances.

Go dees, bring on 2026

I hate this club.

It’s like it’s like constantly being friend zoned by that chick you really want to sleep with.

WHEN THE F WILL WE EVER SEE A TEAM THAT PLAYS WITH SOME HUNGER TO WIN AND CAN TAKE AN OPPORTUNITY!!

ARE WE THE ONLY CLUB TO WIN A FLAG AND THEN LOSE ALL EXPERIENCE AND COMPOSURE FROM THAT EXP??

Guys it isnt all bad, Jeremy Howe got injured!!

That’s a great outcome in my book!

If Claz completes a full preseason, he'll be back to his best next year. Don't trade him.

Langford a future star.

Rivers good in the middle, but like many of our guys is so dumb when he has the ball in space.

Salem awful despite solid counting numbers. Think he's done.

Likewise May.

Plenty to like, but the end result sums up our season.

Thank god it's over.

I really hope we don’t lose Clarry in the off season. Getting back to his best and would be gutting to see him in full flow for another team.

Honestly, Collingwood lost percentage. 🤣😂

As long as Gold Coast just beat Port and Essendon, they are out of the top 4 regardless.

I’d be trading May and Lever before Petracca and Oliver.

So overrated those back two. Put Petty and Turner down back for the next 5 years to form a great backline.

Let's look at this game in isolation.

It showed how both Petracca and Oliver are built for high pressure, finals like matches. I am back and forth on whether we keep both. But boy do they love games like this.

Salem, Bowey and May all had good games. May bounced back after a shocking start.

I am super impressed by this performance tonight. We bloody took it to them. Pies had more to play for.

Langford is a gun.

I am bullish on what this squad can do. I hope it doesn't break up too much.

We should be playing finals. We're not.

Reboot. Get a new coach in.

And then do to Collingwood in finals what we did to Geelong in 2021.

Also the Collingwood fans that gave the applause to Maynard at the start of the game.

You are a stain on society.

I'm not sure even a new coach can change the mental fragility of this group. I honestly don't know how many close games they need to lose to work out how to finally win one.

I'd rather keep Oliver over Trac. i have withered and waned on this all year. But im sick to death of Trac not playing with intent / agression. That last kick from May which went to sidebottom - Trac should have absolutely cleaned him up. He would have been protected by the footy act and all. He had the perfect opp to get some type of revenge. All night he played with fear running through him.

I really do hope he requests a trade over anybody else. i want him gone.

Wow, what a pack of sad sacks you are!!! Must st people were predicting a 186 type blow out, fantastic effort by all, yes some made mistakes but that happens. Get some perspective people. Max awesome, Clarry great, Rivers, Langdon, Langford, Sparrow all tried their heart out. I for one think there is definitely light at the end of the tunnel. The rest of you go follow some other team!!!

And there goes the year and flag that was 2021.

In an instant we've gone from looking unbeatable, to almost always a chance to now being one of the worst skilled weak under pressure teams in the AFL.

The new coach will need to be a magician to turn this around but even more than that, he'll need plenty of assists, including a whole lot of trading out of the chaff and trading in of some quality ball users with poise, confidence and finishing skills. Especially forward of centre.

The same goes for those around him including the fitness crew.

And no point tinkering around either. This will need a massive change across many levels and lines over at least three to four seasons if we're to get back to being a team that can win these sort of matches and start vying for finals once again.

As Macca so beautifully said about 6 weeks ago....it's time to

DRAIN THE SWAMP!

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

It’s late February. Two teams widely predicted to finish near the foot of the AFL table in 2026 face off against each other in sweltering 30-degree heat deep in outer suburbia in a match simulation with fresh new faces and uneven team numbers. There are no nearby sheep stations on offer; the result promises nothing more than bragging rights for the winner. Nevertheless, the loser appears hopelessly adrift, whereas the other seems to have found its footing after a couple of years of struggle – perhaps a hint at bigger things to come?
