Still felt we are a bit short on talent to be honest and there is a need to continue to stock pile yet again.

There are still question marks on some names that are either haven't been exposed at AFL level or have, but haven't shown anything close to being AFL standard.

I said earlier in the year that ideally we'd have another off season or two like the last two, and bring in 2-3 first rounders, but we're just not going to have the draft capital.

So either we get them through trading or JT pulls some rookies out of the hat ala Turner and McVee.

My hope is to get back into the first round, but at what cost, I dont know..

I can think of 2 players who I’d consider moving along if we got high picks for them. Do we ask for a high pick and cop the high shared salary. It’s probably the only way we can get into the first round.

Is it worth getting back into the first round this year? Or better trading for players this year then try to load up in the first round next year assuming it’s a stronger draft?

I think anytime that you can get into the first round is always a bonus.

I'm a big believer that you're always going to get quality high end talent in the early round regardless if its a weak draft or not.

All depends on the cost I guess. If we could trade Trac to the likes of the bombers I’m happy to get a first round pick in this years or next years draft even if that means paying a large junk of his wages for a couple of years.

I’m not in favour of trading our future first and a selection of second rounders to get into a highly compromised draft lacking quality.

I’d rather try and fill a lot of holes over two off-seasons than a quick fix now.

It’s a reasonable list of young players, we’ll know a lot more in 12 months time about where the key forwards are at.

Good summation, only notable difference I would have is Jeffo as 'could contribute' (if the stars align; I thought there were some fleeting moments against North and Carlton that showed there just might be something there), and Kolt under role player / possible contributor (at best).

If we can get back in by moving out a player (or two), I wouldn't necessarily be against it. But, I think we also need to bring in some much needed depth in that second - fourth round range, so if coming back in came at the cost of us packaging multiple picks I don't think we're in the right space to be doing those sort of movements. Granted as you rightfully pointed out, this year is both a weakened and compromised draft so potentially you could mount the argument that there is less impact in doing so, but I definitely wouldn't be moving future picks to do so given we could be looking at bottom four finishes in the next few years, coupled with the (potential) compromised Tasmanian drafts.

I guess the TLDR; yes, if we're able to get capital via outgoing player movements; no - if we're packaging current/future picks to do so.

This is the most accurate assessment in my view.

We have some reasonable but speculative young talent. Probably about the average or slightly above for most AFL lists.

Jeffo is still very high ceiling but also low floor. There’s still a chance he’s a 50 goal forward at afl level, but also possible he never makes it. His combination of mobility, leap and skills are rare, just a matter of getting it out of him.

I for one love our mix of old and new in the club currently, I don't want to get rid of any of the older guys they will mentor and train up the new guys and that is very important.

Just youth is going to set us back longer if we don't have the right older crew around them as they come up.

The two territory boys; Ricky Mentha has shown some promise with a dash of x-factor and smarts as a small forward with Casey. An opportunity awaits with Kysaiah going to the centre for a Jeffrey Garlett successor.

Andy Moniz-Wakefield has kept his head up after a shocker knee injury. Reports suggest he has been most diligent with his recovery and is progressing well for a return to on field action 2026. Pleased the club sees his potential and gives him an opportunity to fulfill it.

Finally I'm nominating all three lads for the pencil moustache award this Movember.
