If people don’t think Horse or Simmo are a good option then they are kidding themselves.

If they go for horse then he should seriously think about reviving Pagan's paddock.

Our young guns are more highly rated and better in my completely unbiased opinion. I think there is more pressure at Carlton too given its a bigger club.

I think Carlton over estimate a lot of their players abilities. I have watched probably more Carlton games ( well parts of games ) than any other team. In every one of these games they have simply been beaten by players with greater ability. The main problem is not the coach it is the cattle.

Not in favour of any of the old boys getting chance to prop up their retirement fund. Game had moved on and they all got sacked for a reason.

Buckley- the speed in which McRae turned things around shows Bucks should have been an able to do better with what he had.

Hinkley- not unlike Simon relies on man management rather than technical ability to get his team up once every few weeks.

Horse- with his GF record and our recent straight sets record we may never win another final. 🤣

If the clubs decides we can challenge again in the next year or two with a fresh voice then we have to go an experienced coach like Longmire, Buckley or Simpson. But if we decide to rebuild and start afresh trading multiple experienced players like Richmond did last year then we really should go for a younger highly rated assist t coach eg skipwoth , Enright , Montgomery type

There's a 2 i c at St.Kilda that might be in the conversation, premiership player from Geelong

I’d rather the 2ic down at cats than a assistant from a club who is in no better position than us.

If we go experienced coach it’s Longmire for me.

If we go Untried it’s either

Skipworth or Montgomery

The more I think about it the more I like Montgomery

McRae shows you can do both, I’d even question if a former senior coach is ever the right choice it’s few and far between that they have success at there next club.

I wonder if it will be Longmire with a succession plan for Enright, Skipworth, Montgomery etc..

Will the club go full untried after sacking a premiership coach?

Going to be interesting, a part of me wants to feel like they already have someone lined up, but this is Melbourne, with an interim president and interim CEO.

Don't ignore what's already under your nose. Mick Stinear would be an outstanding choice. Quality person, great coaching cv, outstanding player relationships and already knows how dysfunctional the club is.

The talk here in the West is that Simmo who is moving back to Victoria is looking to extend his coaching career. The West Australian which has a close relationship with Simmo stated in a headline from a coupe of weeks ago that he is moving to “Melbourne” not “Victoria” is very suggestive. Why move back without a serious job offer if so? Where could it be, Norf, Carlton or us?

I am so filthy about the sacking – not just the sacking itself, but the way it was done and the way it has been leaked. But anyway, the haters on this site have had their way. Let's just hope that it doesn't turn into a case of, be careful what you wish for…

But I think it might

I would prefer a young upcoming assistant, who can prepare the next iteration of the Dees. We cant just copy other teams strategy, need to be inventive.

Agree

Not interested in a recycled coach.

A new "cheap" coach on a short contract (longer with strong KPI's) surrounded by very good (well paid) assistants.

It won't be an easy job.

PS: I'd like to see a little more attention paid to the VFL coach

Craig Bellamy

Being serious though don't jump on the senior ones straight away. Nth got clarkson & that was there only plan & they haven't risen up the ladder in 3 years.

If we get someone similar to mccrae who wasn't even talked about at Collingwood & has had success

It will be an interesting process.

can see Rivers becoming just as good as a full time on baller under and Lever getting back to his best under a Jaymie Graham.

Does Jaymie Graham have some kind of magical ability? Is he a healer? A shaman?

Enright has apparently been earmarked to succeed Ross Lyon. If we can pry him away St Kilda, I’d take him. I’d also replace Alan Richardson with James Hird (ducks for cover).

Just as Yze was marked to take over from Simon until a premiership got in the way.

If Enright is the one the Saints’ plans won’t stop us.

I like the Hickmott inclusion. He looks quite gruff but watching him do some media he has a gentler style that seems very supportive (He’ll get hammered if the team sucks but that’s true of any coach).

Hawthorn have a very deep best 22 but they’re also the team that is doing more with less in terms of star players. Especially last year. That’s good coaching.

This list is a disaster. Recycling failed coaches is not the way forward

He also wrote we may go with an untried coach as well - which covers every possible option. Pointless post from a pointless journo.

My preference would be a first timer such as Daly, Montogomery, Enright to take the senior coach roll

I am also gunning for an experienced midfield strategy coach and sending Jones/Radford packing. I would be offering this role to a previous senior coach such as Longmire, Simpson etc.

Tim Lamb and Richardson should also be shown the door.

Personally I would like to see the role split :-

  1. Strategy, tactics, game plan etc, List Management

  2. Player relationships, Motivation, Media

Both on equal footing.

Fooled by the analysis on 360???? They are hugely successful Premiership coaches, they are not getting picked up because of 360 🤦

One of them is a Premiership coach, who handed over the worst list in the world to Mini.

The other two are not Premiership coaches
