I rarely disagree with much you say Binman, but as I've argued, the best person to tell a young bloke he is being subbed is the welfare office since he should know all about that players's circumstances and how to best deliver the news.

Do we really need a welfare officer to take a team member off to help the team be a better team and get a better team result.

A lot of shooting the messenger in this thread

we might not like what she's saying but none of it should be news to anyone.

yeah, i don't read this thread like that at all

i think there's a lot of 'yeah, and..?'

there's not much 'new' news in here; just a long list - and it's pretty long - of issues

the runner / welfare officer being a problem is a bloody long bow to draw tho

No we don't. But if we happen to have a welfare officer who can run and knows a bit about footy, why not. May even save a salary.

I used to think that too, but in the media jostling and scrabbling for AFL headlines, she's slipped.

Had she done her research, she would have known Conca has been a runner since he started at the club (replacing Burns in the same role).

Perhaps she could have also mentioned that Guerra's prior commitment to organising a world conference actually might be significant and that to ditch that for his new role might also be showing a lack of leadership.

Green has always maintained he is President for the short term and that it is particularly difficult juggling that with a young family and a business. If Green was 'bristling,' I doubt it was about that.

Other than that, I agree with the leadership questions but good journos deal in facts rather than framing to suit their narrative.

This.

Wilson has built a career on blurring the line between fact and opinion. As usual, the writing is clunky — several sentences are difficult to follow — and the piece isn’t without its fair share of reductio ad absurdum and non sequiturs. The so-called facts are distorted, twisted, and tortured to fit the narrative.

PS( I wonder what Caro is going to say about that rabble of a club that didn’t win a single quarter of footy and got beaten by 84 points yesterday, I mean Richmond of course 167 points between our two clubs yesterday).

No mate, the problem is the people who think they have a birthright to run the club and have proven again and again how incompetent they are. Seems to be a common thread through the history of the club, they look down their nose at those in the "cheap seats" while being unable to run a successful footy club.

Could not agree more. Back in 2013 (?) we had about a dozen people on the board and were an absolute basket case on and off the field. I believe the Hawks had about 4 on the board and look how they were going.

Our club does have a history of people at the top who are happy being on the board for their own ego, rather than for the fans themselves.

Season 2025 is a bust on field for me but the off season broom being swept through two old Melbourne clubs will be interesting ... big brooms needed 😁

How could the Board possibly not agree a start date with Guerra before appointing him. Then be surprised it wouldn't be until September ...

Incompetence, right up there with failing to monitor the implementation of last year's FD review!

Yep..

Quite bizarre how the whole situation has been handled.

Its hard enough witnessing what's happened on field for the last two years but off field has been just as worse.

It's become increasingly clear to me that Goody and the FD won a flag in spite of the horrendous off field management of the club.

Remembering of course that we changed presidents in 2021. So management did their best to ruin that opportunity too.

As far as I'm concerned, we need the club back in AFL hands, because it's clear our ladder climbers sit on our board to further their own careers, with no love for the club (there have been exceptions of course).

We've had two recently past presidents that became MFC supporters just prior to sitting in the chair, and a congoline of born to rule board members that seem more interested in what the post can do for them, rather than any incisive strategy and adequate decision making.

We've got at least another newly donned board member who supported the Bulldogs until all of a sudden a MFC board position came up.

I don’t know anyone at board level, who are you referring to D Rev??

This reminds me of an interview that Pert gave in early 2024 where he lauded the team for the 2021 flag despite having "bottom 4 training facilities".

Makes me wonder what this group could have done if this club actually had it's act together.

Pointing at our runner being our welfare officer as a conflict of interest when the MRO played 132 games for a certain black and white club and saying nothing about that is certainly.... interesting

This is a hilariously tenuous connection to make.

Only one I've seen down at the Gosch’s training area is Green, unless unrecognisable when they are there.

Not the only recent appointee whose first game as a supporter was after being appointed to the board.

so the f what? - As long as they were appointed because of their ability, what should it matter? Do we choose players from the draft that only barrack for the Dee's? You only seem to appear when you want to stick it to the Board. And even that's ok if you have a valid complaint - but you don't this time, so this only makes you look petty.

Im not too fussed where the CEO comes from. You want acumen over pedigree.

As to Board Members... you want the best of anyone ( who blood is red and blue )

I'd always be wondering .. why be a Melb Board member...if you're not 110% Dinky Di Dee 🤔

I actually think there’s an interesting debate to be had here.

Is being an MFC supporter a necessary prerequisite for being a board member?

Is there something to be said for targeting the best in class at governance irrespective of prior allegiances? Or, alternatively, is that more appropriate for the CEO and other such roles but the board is where we want MFC people who have genuine care for the club?

Certainly needs fresh blood. Some from all ages and backgrounds. In reality just the best we can get , the caveat being we don't want a 'boyz' club in any shape or form. Need people who are club interests first... not self interest.

Sounds like you do want a boyz club.

I can see and will wear that critique. There is a caveat. And that's how anyone arrives at the room.

There are those of the secret squirrel wink-wink handshake brigade who only interest is their own....and there are those who genuinely want to futher the club.

Both have red and blue blood arguably. However one is selfish and the other selfless.

I'd prefer the latter. There is a difference

MFC off field staff walk and chew gum at same time. Shock horror.

Sounds like waiting for another straw (the St Kilda loss) to be put on the camel's back before digging the boots in ... again.

The Melbourne Football Club has selected a new coach for the 2026 season appointing Geelong Football Club assistant coach Steven King to the head role.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
