No problem. Just C Wilson was so keen to put the boot in she kicked an own goal IMO by raising this.

Yeah that’s fair, I don’t even know why it would be brought up as a problem though, haha.

I should’ve asked @binman anyways I guess. Why is the runner being a welfare officer a conflict of interest? Again, not saying it’s right/wrong, I don’t get why it would be controversial in the first place?

Hopefully this article puts to bed any [censored] assumptions that I often see that Geelong are only good because of their home ground advantage. If it was that easy, how come they went 11 years between Chris Scott flags?

They are a destination club because they are a well run club. “Lifestyle” is merely a bonus.

Many don’t like to admit it, but I envy Geelong a lot. Should look to bring in more of their people into the club. Tom Hawkins is one person I would look to as a part time goal kicking coach. His expert analysis on Fox is first class, particularly when it comes to the nuances in forward craft. Steve Johnson is another who had done a lot of good with the Sydney coaching ranks.

Bartel is the other we shouldn’t give up on. Director of footy would be ideal.

I think id sacrifice one assistant coach for a few part time expert coaches in their positions , as in Hawkins , goalkicking,

I rarely disagree with much you say Binman, but as I've argued, the best person to tell a young bloke he is being subbed is the welfare office since he should know all about that players's circumstances and how to best deliver the news.

I'm not necessarily saying it's an issue, I was just summarising caro's points.

BUT I can see why an argument could me made that at the least it might create challenges.

The runner sends messages from the coach, and by definition is connected to the coach and has to have a close working relationship with them.

Let's say for the sake of argument Windsor was reallly upset with Goody last week for electing to sub him, which wouldn't be that surprising as he was very stiff to be subbed (when I wanted to work out who was subbed I put my binos on him.and he looked filthy).

Windsor is so upset he wants to speak to the welfare officer.

Does he really want to speak to the fella who gave him the message, is in constant dialogue with goody and has a close relationship with him?

And does he want to criticise goody to conca?

Maybe, but maybe he doesn't want to be fully honest with conca for fear it will get back to goody.

Hey Caz, how’s the leadership at the Toigs lookin’?

Yeah nah Tigs will be fine.

No one tipped them to win a game and yet Yze has them going well with 5 wins.

They'll play finals under ooze.

A majority of the Media are suffering from Relevance Deprivation Syndrome where they need to be :

  • Criticising Players (& administrators)

  • Criticsing Clubs without being fully aware of what is going on

  • Rumour Mongering

  • Going hell for leather to get mentioned on Click bait etc. e.g. Morris, Wilson plus the blokes on Fox

AFL Football is becoming a real "cess pool"

Could somebody enlighten me on the ticketing situation (i.e. charging Members) at Etihad/Marvel /Advertising $$$ today ???

That's fine.

Incredibly young team will get that. Playing up at Gold Coast is no easy task at all.

Reminder that many tipped them to not win a game this year..

I wouldn’t blame Petracca. Imagine how good he’d be at a professionally run club.

Not a professionally run club in 2021, 2922 and 2023. ?

Things I learnt from the article

  • Richardson is contracted to end of next year

  • Shand was at Monday's Board meeting

  • Pettyfor, appointed as Comms Executive, is taking up a dual role as head of football for AFLW including list management. The previous incumbent in that role also took up a role in the AFL FD

  • Williams is one of the highest paid development coaches in the league

  • Williams and Griffiths are out of contract at end of season

  • Our media boss was in charge of babysitting Clarry over 23/24 summer when he went off the rails. During that period Oliver was "undergoing direct and regular intervention from the AFL’s mental health team, league chiefs, AFLPA bosses and Pert."

Re Pettyfor, she was the GM Football Ops and AFLW at Collingwood before joining us so for all we know she was slated for this role when we brought her in as Comms Director. It id not as if we've grabbed a random person from Marketing to run a footy program.

Classic short sighted damning Caro know it all click bait narrative. Haven't we already actioned Guerra to grow the club commercially? Smith as a strong mast head? Both start, and Caulfield might be signed by the end of the year. Yes an Adam Simpson would be nice replace Richo. Turnover 7-8 players on the list and were back to relevance. Tom McCarthy is evidence not everything is FA. Parity league. Relax

Would his kicking be any better? How many players does he burn inside 50

I think this is a useful for article for us. It’s been clear for some time now that they’re a deeper governance and management problems at the club that are preventing us from attracting players, specialists and high quality line coaches to replace the likes of Yze and Burgess. And while we might not agree with the specific examples Cato has cited, she correctly puts attention on the broader issues rather than the simplistic “solution” of sacking the senior coach.

i don't see how anyone can disagree with what she's listed

it's mostly things that have been known for some time

she's just bundled up and conflated together

The day that melbourne FC do anything right (without Wilson's approval) should go down in history. She has rarely if ever made anything positive re the MFC. So should be ignored.

You are shooting the messenger. The theme of her article is imo 100% correct. The board has made decisions resulting in no President or CEO for the best part of 12 months. That means very few decisions made waiting for the new arrivals to appear. I am also not convince Smith wanted the job.

She went from us (in Comms) to Collingwood in November 2022 and was with them in Footy Ops roles for 1 year and 6 months, before coming back to us.

The idea that Caroline is sinking the boots in 8j that article is off the mark.

To be honest, if anything she went easy.

I mean she left a couple of easy wacks on the table.

Darren Shand was supposedly hired to lead cultural improvement and drive leadersip yet caro didn't make the obvious point that the efficacy of that work is at the very least in question.

And she mentions Pert and the home base, but gave him and the club a complete pass on the fact he was supposedly staying at the club to drive that project and 6 months lager we appear no closer to it being landed.

Pretty obvious Pert has been a big source for her. Basically never had a bad word to say about him.

I believe some maybe unwittingly conflating timeliness with voracity.

It to me is somewhat damning that much of what she describes can indeed be suggested as being old news. But it's still relevant as were so bloody slow to address anything. That is the sad thing.

Great article really.

Its deflating to read but just shows exactly the complete leadership from top to bottom but also the messy and all over the shop job sharing between staff...utterly bizarre.

Sounds like Richardson will go with hope that Goodwin is next.

It was damning to read that after the review was conducted last year there has been little change made since.

It was also damning of the review itself - which was good to see brought to life.

Brad Green is the President of the MFC last time I looked, sounds like Caro has spun it all together to show what a mess of a club we are after losing to Saints last week, AFL Media love to put the boots into us, knowing that our CEO is in transition, we are are an easy target. They know how to get up our skirts because we always react in the same way, even our more measured supporters have been worn down over time that is why I have disengaged from the media pack.s

PS( I wonder what Caro is going to say about that rabble of a club that didn’t win a single quarter of footy and got beaten by 84 points yesterday, I mean Richmond of course 167 points between our two clubs yesterday).

A lot of shooting the messenger in this thread

we might not like what she's saying but none of it should be news to anyone.

Pointing at our runner being our welfare officer as a conflict of interest when the MRO played 132 games for a certain black and white club and saying nothing about that is certainly.... interesting

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Way back in March we contemplated the possibility of a Demon resurgence after Simon Goodwin’s summer of love. Many issues at the club had seemingly been addressed, key players were returning from injury and a brand new day was about to dawn. We imagined the coach pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The team would roar up the charts, push aside every opponent and make its way to a Grand Final ending in ultimate triumph with Goody and Max holding the premiership cup aloft under a shower of red and blue ticker tape.

We’re back! That was fun. The Mighty Dees’ Season 10 campaign is off toa flying start with a commanding 48-point winover the Western Bulldogs, retaining the Hampson-Hardeman Cup in style. After a hard-fought first half in slippery conditions, the Dees came out in the second half and showcased their trademark superior class, piling on four goals in the third termand never looked back.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
