Today after what seemed ages, the reviewed that mom point quite correctly a non point. If it was a point the ball would have been brought back.

A clear throw. Missed by the umpires, clear on the replay why was that not revised a mistake had been made it could have been corrected. Will we ask that question.

Never in a month of Sunday’s !

I’m going to say it

Melksham clearly our best

but

he missed at least 3 easy goals

Should have kicked 9. Would have been one for the ages

We were outscored 9.4 to 7.6 across quarters 2 and 3. Game was done at 3/4 time, pointing to a 5 goal to 1 final term when the heat was out of the game is no solace for the disastrous first 3/4's.

The game was done dusted and finished.

Junk time and we still stuffed it up

You do realise that with two players off at quarter time and two more with heads split open and several others with head knocks, we won the last three quarters.

We didn't lose that game because of fitness.

Yes we did. We were not switched on, mind and body

It’s been there 90% of the Season

Too much Love, not enough Hard Work and Respect

One part of what happened today really resonates with me as the crux of our list problem.

We make the call pre-game to play Viney forward, acknowledging that we can't keep playing Viney with Oliver, Trac and Gawn as our majority midfielders who cannot deliver the ball inside 50 in a way which wins us games.

What happens?

We get annihilated at contest in the first quarter, so badly that we have no choice but to put Viney back into the middle to fix it.

Therein lies our problem - our list has no midfield depth on it, which means we can't do what we desperately need to do and replace Viney and Oliver with players who can kick. The ones who can kick can't compete, whether because they're too young (Langford) or, mainly, they're just not good enough as midfielders (Sparrow, Salem, Rivers, Laurie, Woewodin, Billings, Brown).

Interesting game next week, with 2 concussions and maybe 2 reports. Goody now has to move some magnets surely

Inclusions will be TMac, JVR, Lever and Laurie. I’m not anticipating any surprises or anything different.

May gives away a free. He is then charged at and put down with force, with the commentators saying it should be a reversal. There is then an all in brawl. While players are being held down, Ainswerth, who got the original free, picks up the ball metres ahead of the mark, plays on and runs about 35 metres into goal, with out bouncing the ball.

Four umpires stand and watch all of that and do nothing.

Imo they should all be in the VFL next week.

Great observation Redleg, that was a horrendous passage from the umpires, couldn't believe it wasnt reversed.

Gold Coast had the rub of the green all day from the umps so was in character.

Maybe the umpire had awarded a 50 metre penalty (hence no bounce) and Ainswerth was just getting it over with....

And what would you tell a press conference if you were the coach?

That the team were so bad you wanted to vomit?

Boy, that’s going to make them want to improve next game, isn’t it?

At least someone gets it.

not sure how many games I'll attend for the rest of the year but unless the kids ask to go I won't be bothering. Waste of time.

Says he who has routinely guilted folks out for not making an effort to attend matches. You’ve always bemoaned our attendance numbers, which is fine, but you forgot to add the proviso that the push for more attendance only applies to when we’re winning.

Fixed it for you.

We haven't been able to replace Brayshaw, and as for Oliver ... well, we all know re Clayton. End of story.

Goodwin stating in his presser how proud he is of the group in how they responded after quarter time makes me want to vomit. I just can’t take him seriously anymore.

Goodwin is done.

He'll coat an arm ans leg to get rid of the coach but we need to start head-hunting whether we need the right fit or not.

Not even close.

Mercifully, those in charge understand that with the list the way it is and our game the way it is, changing coaches would be the worst thing we could do - if you think we're bad at the moment, watch what happens with a new coach and starting all over again. Wilderness.

Clayton Oliver is a shadow of his former self. Sad to see and hard to watch.

Agree Trac also!! gets plenty of the ball but lacks polish and they both seem to not hunt the player like they once did. Both were top 5 players in the comp destined to be greats of the game, can't believe how it's turned out....

Which is exactly where we are now, somewhere between Siberia and a Klingon off world colony!

We were on the boundary right at that spot - as soon as May went down I was on my feet “reverse it!”

Bloke beside me as Ainsworth took off “cheeeats”

no one could believe it

WHY DOESNT THE CLUB CALL IT OUT

Same as the Maynard tribunal call

We are babies with this stuff

Glad someone has actually looked at the ladder recently!

I don’t think I’ve seen an AFL game with a team having more smothered kicks and kicks which barely hit the foot.

Our first quarter was as poor an effort as there has been under Goodwin.

Answer is easy. Suns, along with Pies, Cats and Hawks are the AFLs favourites this year and I expect at least 3 in the prelims. Media do as told and glaze all 4 as well. As do umpires.

I'm sure we do but we are not a HQ favourite so nothing will happen.

The May-Ainsworth incident was an issue. Dees were still in the contest. Sure it was poor by May but King started the all in !!

99/100 that would be a reversal. Commentators called it as a reversal.

AFL umps protected the nepo babies.

Ainsworth runs 35 metres to the line to kick the goal. No bounce. 35 metres. It was called as smart play. Smart??? 35 metres. That’s the umps having no idea.

Suns got the 50/50 calls. Miller free in the first quarter was ridiculous. There was no arm chop. No grabbing. Oliver competes and marks it. Clarry was fuming. It was a sign of the umps “instructions” !!!

Yesterday was predictable. The simple facts are where transitioning a team with many new players. While you do this you’re simply not that good. We need to expect more of the same look at the Tigers. The atmosphere at the ground was morgue like. Is says to me most supporters are resigned to our fate. I have been in angry crowds ours yesterday was just pure acceptance and apathy. The final result may not be satisfactory but I will take that over a Mark Neeld loss.

My frustration is not over individual games whilst we rebuild but rather how the team squandered 22 and 23 when we realistically could have contended. That bus has well and truly left. I respect Goody for the flag but he inherited a Paul Roos built team. He delivered a flag but again unlike the Tigers did not make the most of when we had the competition at our mercy. The true question is can he rebuild the club a la Roosy. To assess that you have to be in the inner sanctum but one thing for sure there are 17 clubs soon to be 18 trying to do the same thing with restricted trade and draft rules. Look at Clarkson, Lyon, Simpson, it an incredibly difficult task. I personally favour the Tigers model go and get the best young coach Yze and plough as many A grade youngsters you can. That what we need to do. The club need to start by getting the best development coaches in the business to support the head coach. They need to have defined metrics to assess Goody rebuild plan. He may well be the best coach around if so back him. I am deadset against bringing in an older experienced coach go for new ideas set trends don’t follow them. The decisions made on Goody will define the next 10 years let hope they get them right.

  • WHAT’S NEXT? by The Oracle

What’s next for a beleagured Melbourne Football Club down in form and confidence, facing  intense criticism and disapproval over some underwhelming recent performances and in the midst of a four game losing streak? Why, it’s Adelaide which boasts the best percentage in the AFL and has won six of its last seven games. The Crows are hot and not only that, the game is at the Adelaide Oval; yet another away fixture and the third in a row at a venue outside of Victoria. One of the problems the Demons have these days is that they rarely have the luxury of true home ground advantage, something they have enjoyed just once since mid April.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
