PREGAME: Rd 17 vs Adelaide

Featured Replies

JVR should come in for the rest of the season but not until Goody calls Roos (or someone external with a good eye) and says "ok what would you do with him?".

I think I have said it before no ruck and possibly play him as a mobile CHF but heck what about as a tall midfielder.

We cant continue to yoyo him in and out of the side.

Time to experiment a bit. We can let the players have some fun for the balance of the season.

The last streak that I'm proud of isn't really a long one, but that Rd 10 game at Adelaide oval against the Crows was up there with one of the best I've watched. This game will forever be Clayton Oliver's finest hour for me. I am still absolutely awe shocked every time I think about the game he played that day. His acceleration out of the contest, the ball would always bounce directly up to him he literally had it on a string.

Just went and watched the 2nd half of this game (Rd 10, 2021)

Aside from the fact we were absolutely robbed when the Crows player deliberately handballed OOB in the fwd pocket with 30 seconds to Olivers game was one of his best.

37 or so possessions , 28 contested, 2 goals. Amazing.

Oh to see that again.

Mentioned this recently, but it saddens me that some winning streaks over teams were broken this year. North, Hawthorn St Kilda. These were ironically long term losing streaks that we needed to break to develop as a team that was genuinely going forward back around 2017/18.

And I just remember being so, so angry about losing this game. I like to think that this one point loss was the catalyst for our side binding together and going on to win the flag but I hated this loss so much that I personally swore that we wouldn't lose to Adelaide again ala Paul Chapman against the Hawks. Ok, in modern day AFL I'd take a 5-7 year stretch of beating them.

Sadly this does not look to be. It would be nice to get a surprise but it's a tall order that would need to be a birthday and Christmas present. I'd rather get the new runners I've been putting off...

It was an absolute clinic by him that day, From 2017-2022 he was a magician every time he stepped onto Adelaide Oval.

That was a game i remember as i had my young family with me that day.

I was doing my best impersonation of Gill Mclachlan voice shouting C.Oliver 3 votes every possesion he was racking up after half time.

Until we got sloppy in the last 10 mins and conceded the last 3 goals and lost by 1 point.

C.Oliver continued on his great form as did the team and the rest is history that year in 2021.

I left out that this was in 2021 but I don't think there's one person here that didn't know what I was talking about 😉

Barring any further injury, I'd say that looks like Lever and JVR straight in for Howes and Petty.

I'd actually like to see Jed Adams get a shot in the seniors before recalling Lever.

Well looks like Lever & JVR are coming in and unfortunately Sharp hasn’t been dropped.

If you want to play van rooyen then play him for the rest of the year.

Stop dropping him then bring him back then drop him again

Goodwin's idea of accountability is still dropping a senior player for a week, they have a subpar game in the twos and are brought straight back into the senior side.

It would have been good to see Lever find form before being brought back into the team. Stylistically, it makes more sense to bring McDonald in with the size of Adelaide's forward line, but hopefully I'm proven wrong.

All of the above are correct, Billings and Tom McDonald also in.

Hard to pick the 4 interchange plus sub in this one!

Salem is currently 4th on the AFL Marks table! He is 5th on MFC's Disposal list and 3rd for Rebound 50's, only a bee's appendage behind Bowey.

Sorry Wayne but that’s not a good thing

2021 Salem yes, 2025 Salem…

This. We are killing these guys by throwing them in and out of the side like defected yo-yos.

Petty is on his second concussion for the season. He is unlikely to only miss a week, and frankly should take a few weeks to recover fully.

So now is the perfect opportunity, given we can’t play finals, to give JVR and Jeffo an extended run in the senior. Side by side, as was the plan when they were drafted. Give them 5 games, and tell them to just play without the relentless pressure of being dropped.

If we waste the remainder of 2025 like we did 2024, by playing the same player mix with the same game plan, then 2026 will be another season of total mediocrity.

So the afl decided to shaft the club with no games in Melb for its suffering supporters to watch them for a whole month (blessing?)with a bye and 3 road trips! I looked at the dogs fixture 12 prime time night games! We’re is the equality in the draw!

Lever/TMAC is trickery

In: Adams, JVR

Out: Howes, Petty

Sub is rotated between Billings/Sharp/Kolt

Maybe if we didn’t play like a bunch of geriatrics with no game plan then we might get more prime time games D.

Lever’s named in the 18, which I think means he’s in.

Presumably it’s JVR for Petty.

I’d personally like to see Billings get Sharp’s spot. Not because Billings is the obvious answer to our problems, but just to acknowledge his VFL form and Sharp’s lack thereof.

Agree. But of course we’ll see JVR forced to ruck when Gawn’s off, and probably only play 70% game time, giving him a handicap in terms of trying to actually play as a forward.

which other club dosent play at home for a month?

So Lever has magically learned to defend during his one week holiday at Casey, just in time to take on the competition's most potent forward line. That should end well.

It was telling in an interview with Jake Melksham after last week's game about how he feels about the game against Adelaide. His immediate response was "yeah, another away game" with emphasis on another. Everyone is feeling it.

I don't know that we are, but with Petty out I'm not sure who else could have come in as a KPF? Fullarton?

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

It’s late February. Two teams widely predicted to finish near the foot of the AFL table in 2026 face off against each other in sweltering 30-degree heat deep in outer suburbia in a match simulation with fresh new faces and uneven team numbers. There are no nearby sheep stations on offer; the result promises nothing more than bragging rights for the winner. Nevertheless, the loser appears hopelessly adrift, whereas the other seems to have found its footing after a couple of years of struggle – perhaps a hint at bigger things to come?
