Another Jason Taylor special.

There's nothing I don't like about this kid, I've got question marks about Kolt and Langford but Lindsay just makes me happy.

Looks skinny on TV but surprises me in real life, bigger than I thought and think he'll build a great frame in a few years.

Lindsay looks a beauty and reminds me of more damaging Simpson ex blues half back. Out of interest what are your questions marks on Langford and Kolt?. Kolt for me is being more that a half forward building possessions and Langford looks a beauty but not great acceleration despit good cruising speed.

Pleasantly surprised by this nomination. Not the nomination itself, but the timing of it. I just didn't see last week's game as being worthy of the nomination. It suggests to me that the selection panel wanted to make sure that he got nominated because he may well be the type of player that is worthy of consideration for the annual award while never actually having a single dominant game.

What I'm really talking about is a major flaw in the Rising Star award. A player can become nominated by having just one stellar game in the season while consistently good performers without one dominant game could miss out on eligibility.

Yeah, i get what you mean.

The way i look at it was there wasn't really any other leading contenders from any other youngster from the other games so i think that's why he may have gotten this week's nomination.

Back to business, pre draft, someone on DL described Lindsay as the the next Jimmy Toumpas. Do they want to revisit that?

It was something Harpo said...

Typical, I always get the wrong brother. Harpo wrote the comedians manupfesto.

Harpo's brother Onya invented the starting pistol. Her name is still mentioned at the start of every race.

Really like this kid as has the Mathew Febey vibe about him (not just in number).

Just need to find a few more like him.

I hate Collingwood but Jesus they celebrate their players no matter what. Even when they’re pure [censored] they find one good thing and that’s good enough for them haha we find one bad thing and that’s enough for us to say they won’t be any good.

The way they protected Ginnivan when everybody was at him as a flopper playing for free kicks, only to turn on him after he left for Hawthorn was hilarious

Question marx on Langford is crazy

I also have severe queries over Langford. For example, will he win 3 or 5 best and fairests, 4 or 6 All Australians, 1, 2 or 3 premierships. And of course anything less than a couple of Brownlows is a bust.

Really happy with our draft. JT has delivered yet again. However, if there's one player I would have loved us to draft, it would be Murphy Reid. His stats don't do him justice (probably why he slid to pick 17), but the kid's disposals are so clever and takes freo from being under pressure to suddenly having plenty of time or space. Really surprised he hasn't received a rising star nomination yet.

He got one last week.

Reminds me so much of Steele Sidebottom. Incredibly classy.

He had a very good game a few weeks ago when I thought he deserved a nomination but someone else (can't remember who) got it.

Sometimes they look at performance over a few games then make sure that player gets nominated altho it may not be his best game.

It could be a genuinely even rising star award by the end of the season.

Levi Ashcroft has been very good but not an instant explosion like his brother.

Murphy Reid is playing his role superbly but might not accumulate enough attention to 'win' the award.

Over at Essendon Archie Roberts has been pretty consistent and punctuated that with some big numbers in a couple of games, while Kako and Caddy are both doing fine but will of course be overrated due to the Bomber hype-machine.

Sam Lalor's numbers go up and down but he seems to always contribute, and his best as an attacking mid rolling forward is huge. 2 goals and FOUR goal assists against the Lions is nonsense for a teenager.

Then there's about half a dozen players which their clubs would be perfectly pleased about their progress and contribution, but who aren't standing out as being competition leaders.

I'm not sure where Langford and Lindsay fit into that. I do know that I like the way they play and that they both have been improving with each passing game. Very interesting to see Langford getting the hang of his de facto wing role, averaging 400m gained in the two wins.

Final note on our two guns is time on ground. We are managing our kids' time much more conservatively than other clubs are, with 64% for Langford and 62% for Lindsay, compared to 75-80% for most of the award contenders. Who knows, it may result in a more durable first season from them as others fade a bit late in the year.

Picks 6 and 11 are looking like the 2 best players available from last years draft

Obviously extremely early and Jagga injured plus Lalor looking good but you have to say amazing drafting and development by the club

You watched Murphy Reid play yet?

Really what question marks have you really got on Harvey?

Too slow, no right side, disposal not perfect, doesn’t take enough marks above his head?

well if they are it then you are nit picking for an 18 yo in his sixth game who is already showing huge promise.

If it’s Kolt yes he has not as vividly shown the his potential in his first 15 games. But think about it he has had two longer injuries in the one and a third seasons and not many recruits can match The Duke or X or Harvey in their first half a dozen games.

Caleb is showing still good skills but I don’t think we need him at half back even in this new era of our game plan.

Bowey Rivers ( who still will make it when he reverts back to midfield) Judd Salo Howes AMW can all attack.

Lindsay is versatile and very skilful plus composed which is a great plus.

We are very lucky have the choice for half back and even some on a wing instead.

Lindsay fits that bill beautifully.

Congrats Xavier keep it up you have adapted very well in view of your injury.

XL20 👏👏👏well deserved.

Has the skill and poise that the Dees needed. I called him out early as a MFC potential 2024 draftee and so pleased that he landed at the Dees. He is outside player for now as an 18yo rookie player. But we will see him develop after 3-4 years to be inside/outside type who can win the footy, run and distribute. Mature kid with leadership potential. One to enjoy in the red and blue for many more years.

he looks a beauty and a steal at pick 17

Would still prefer Lindsay over him though

I have the obvious nickname for Xavier and it is “ obviously “, a word he uses in every sentence. Interviewed on AFL Tonight, he must have used it 25 times in a short interview.

Very happy he got the nomination. Was possibly one of those 'weeks of consistency' nominations. Who cares how he gets it though, he's in now.

One of my favourite players already. Beautiful left foot kick, knows where to run and hard at it when required. Excited to see his development as a footballer and no doubt will see him run through the middle in future years.
