Very well deserved!

Silky is an apt description!

Silky Demon earns Rising Star nod after outstanding start...

Xavier Lindsay is the Telstra AFL Rising Star nominee for round seven

30% on the bench as well (vs Tigers)

11 marks for a youngster is a standout stat. Shows he's making position well and creating seperation

And 21 possessions at 71% DE is more than acceptable for an 18yo

Congratulations Xavier Lindsay fantastic recognition for our young gun, so well deserved.😁👍

The future is bright!

Regardless of what pick Essendon end up netting from our finish this year, I feel very comfortable knowing that we'll have these two jets lining up in our midfield for the next 15 years.

Another Jason Taylor special.

There's nothing I don't like about this kid, I've got question marks about Kolt and Langford but Lindsay just makes me happy.

Looks skinny on TV but surprises me in real life, bigger than I thought and think he'll build a great frame in a few years.

I don't think so.

I have question marks too. Not major doubts but concerns he won't quite be the player I thought he would.

Obviously, it's very early days and I'll watch closely with interest, as I'm sure we all will.

Langford is one out of the box. Very special player. My observation on him prior to drafting him - is that he could be a key forward, such is him dominance forward of centre as a junior. What he is doing currently, on the wing, and sparingly in the middle, off of a limited prep (as a first year player), is something to get excited about. In addition, i thought he looked lazy at times last week, but within the space of a quarter, I saw 3 one percent acts. Suggests he probably has a limited tank and is conserving his energy, and going when he can, which is smart, and to be expected in year 1.

All I’ll say is that if it were Collingwood players getting nominated for Rising Star nominations, their fans wouldn’t be questioning how good they actually are…

Seriously, just enjoy the fact that we have some quality young talent coming through

I hate Collingwood but Jesus they celebrate their players no matter what. Even when they’re pure [censored] they find one good thing and that’s good enough for them haha we find one bad thing and that’s enough for us to say they won’t be any good.

Congratulations to Xavier "Spreadsheet" or "X" Lindsay!

He is an excellent kick and very cool, calm and collected with football in hand.

A well deserved rising star nomination for the Melbourne Demons! 🔴🔵👹

Picks 6 and 11 are looking like the 2 best players available from last years draft

Obviously extremely early and Jagga injured plus Lalor looking good but you have to say amazing drafting and development by the club

Out of interest what are your doubts on Langford. I think he looks a rippa, every bit as good as Lindsay.

Pleasantly surprised by this nomination. Not the nomination itself, but the timing of it. I just didn't see last week's game as being worthy of the nomination. It suggests to me that the selection panel wanted to make sure that he got nominated because he may well be the type of player that is worthy of consideration for the annual award while never actually having a single dominant game.

What I'm really talking about is a major flaw in the Rising Star award. A player can become nominated by having just one stellar game in the season while consistently good performers without one dominant game could miss out on eligibility.

Right, I have found a copy of Das Kapital but cannot find any reference by Marx concerning Langford. Footballers control of the sherrin factory and the means of producing goals is as close as I can stretch it.

It was something Harpo said...

“Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

  • CASEY: Southport

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.
