After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.

Shocking last 10 minutes, the whole review should be about that.

Mentally went to sleep, unacceptable.

When Gawn retires we are proper****ed.

Great win dees.

Put the que in the rack late, but turned it on when they needed to.

Looking forward to the game at Optus next week

Arrogant coaching by Goodwin for taking Gawn off.

Awful finish and now only few positives to come out after what was heading towards a really strong win.

Meh.

It’s a privilege to witness the greatest ruckman of all time

Just remarkable

Our forward line remains an issue but our midfield looked much better in that second half.

Gawn and Bowey were awesome tonight.

We won though, so there’s that.

Not a great first half, in great part because we were getting very little from Trac, Clarry and Kozzie. No surprise that things turned with a big second half from each of them. Maxy was huge.

Disappointing way to end the game, some useful % wasted.

Anyway, happy for the win, we continue to build some momentum. Over to the west to make amends for a bad loss last year!!!

Will take the win of course but jesus that last quarter was frustrating. We really need to learn how to run out games properly if we want to have a decent number of wins.

As far as individual highlights go, Gawn reminded everyone of how much of a champion he is and Bowey has officially won me over.

Got the job done. Max was immense in the 3rd. Great signs from so many when the game was there to be won. Couldn't give a toss about the last 10 mins. Rather preserve max & may - marathon not sprint & all that.

Good to get the win but our last quarter was PATHETIC.

We need to fix this otherwise the better sides will roll us.

Fritta is still a selfish player and should be better.

Yep. Gawn is the GOAT for mine. The amount of wins he generates all over the ground has saved us for years. He papers over A LOT of cracks.

We worked bloody hard to win the game

Who cares if we took the foot off the pedal and rested our 33yo workhorse star

We still won the game

It’s OK to be happy guys

6 goal swing there in the last QTR. We gifted them at least 3 goals and we missed at least 3.

Yep, that last one Spargo all alone at goal square. Selfishness all around.

Fullerton is a liability. Not sure if jvr wants to play ruck. Can anyone else fill this role?

you one of those glass half full fellas yeah?

Secured the game then eased off mentally. who cares?

Habits matter, % matters and we let a bad habit creep in and we lost valuable %.

Happy we won of course, but as the players and coaches always say every moment matters.

Top 5 worst games of AFL footy I’ve ever seen. From a Dees perspective, we’re very very ordinary of course, but without the best ruckman the game’s ever seen, I think we might be the worst team in the league. At the moment. Things can improve no doubt. And they will. Hopefully. 71,000 at the G, and they all should feel robbed.

Clarry 13 contested possesions MOST for the game! Um Fullarton should NEVER EVER play an AFL game again! Shocking

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
