HOW BLOODY GOOD WAS THAT WIN !!!

....

PS: ‘twas my lucky Melbourne socks that did it.

YOU’RE ALL WELCOME!

Needless to say I’ll be wearing them every week.

Again, you’re all welcome 😁

YEAH THE MIGHTY DEES!

I was thinking your Demon Army socks will be banished to the back of the sock drawer. Yay lucky Dees socks!

I am not sure why people are so critical of things from yesterday. We played with fire and confidence yesterday and lead all day. I will take that every week.

Great comment OD Some never satisfied. Perfection to be aimed at but hard to produce;

That handball from Oliver when he looked like he was about to do a dump kick stopped and got it to Trac was just the best.

We did that a few times, rather than a dump kick we used the extra handball to great effect all day.

We also limited Freo to only 33 metres gained from their forward handball game, they average 333 metres in 2025.

IT'S FREE GRILL'D BURGER DAY!!!

Kelli Underwood is poison to my ears 🤬

In fairness to Underwood, Jack Reiwoldt was just as worse. Got a bunch of names wrong and is generally just a nails to the chalk board to listen too.

For a guy that's fresh out of the game he's genuinely one of the worst commentators going around. The fact that he's also main host of On the Couch, sums of today's media landscape. That use to be one of my most favourite footy show going around but I refuse to watch it now with him on there.

💯

I didn't notice Underwood/Riewoldt so much but felt Healy was a pain to listen to with his pro-Freo commentary. Actually I thought Underwood had improved as I used to think she was absolutely intolerable but I hardly noticed her (perhaps just me).

Out of all the AFL players that have played 5-6 games this year:

Xavier Lindsay is rated 5th for disposal efficiency (1st for kicking efficiency)

Ed Langdon is rated 7th for disposal efficiency (5th for kicking efficiency)

I'd want to see no more injuries and all of May, McVee, Fritsch, JVR, Turner and after that Lever back into the side asap. With faster ball movement Fritsch will have a field day. Opposition sides will have to man up a forward half of Pickett, Fritsch, Petracca at times and Perhaps Petty and JVR. That's a handful when the ball is coming in quick, less so when it's bombed high and slow. If we can limit injuries we should have some decent footy coming up. There's no easy games when you're 1-5 though. Richmond aren't hopeless.

Fritsch can pull his finger out and find form in the Dewies. His lazy efforts are one reason we're in this predicament

You need an enforcer or two.

We've had the old stager in Vines for so long. Now he's joined by the young Kolt.

Fighting for every scrap, jostling and flying the flag are just as important as anything else in the game.

Add to that the fierce attack on the ball and ball carrier.

Pressure pressure pressure. Something that's been missing for far too long.

The sharing of ball, running in support and more HBs forward (finally), paid dividends today.

Have to back it up though. No flukes pls.

New enforcers – Kolt and Leb.

Who’d have thunk it?

Riewoldt feels like a classic jobs for the boys appointment.

Much prefer him to Lyon in that role. Nothing against Lyon per se, but he's both opinionated and forthright about his opinions, which then turned OTC into a bit of a pub discussion when everyone's fighting to have their voices heard. Lyon is better on AFL360 where he only has one person to bounce off/come back at him, while Riewoldt's tentativeness and cooler approach lets others in without the argy bargy.

OTC always felt like better discussion. Riewoldt cheapens the discussion every time. He’s like the little brother that won’t be quiet so he says stupid things to get attention. I no longer watch, it was the last footy show I tuned into.

She’s better than she used to be - in the past, she’d try to create a newspaper headline after every goal which became really cringy. She’s pared that back thankfully.

I did find it amusing that she called two possessions for Disco Turner in the third after he’d been subbed off for concussion.

Oh Ditcha… make no mistake… I’ll be wearing those socks to every single match. This evening I found my Demon Army socks in my son’s sock drawer and guess what? I’m leaving them there! Wore them five times, we lost all five matches. Never underestimate the power of the sock 😅

So Freo, I know what you’re thinking.

Have the Dees lost five games or will it be six?

So, do you feel lucky punks?

(they obviously weren’t counting on the lucky socks👍)

Underwood called Lindsay “Turner” at least 3 times in the second half, despite the fact that Turner had been subbed out with concussion.

I have low expectations of commentators these days. I don’t even mind Brian Taylor in small doses. But please, know who the players are. That’s all I ask.

Not quite but I know what you mean. Imagine the reruns if we beat Collingwood in "our GrandFinal"

Shout out to Harry Petty in this game, I'm sure others have praised him for his performance but I really thought he came to play. Contested well and helped us keep it in there and he gave us some much needed movement with leads straight at the ball carrier.

I also wanted to make an observation on his set shooting, this was 2023 level Petty and he was kicking through the ball beautifully. I paid very close attention to his kicking routine last year after a few early misses and I'm of the firm belief that he was really hindered by his foot rehab + no full pre season at that point. I think it was screwing his routine up a lot. because each time he took a set shot he seemed to splay his foot out outwards slightly at the last second and missing the target by a lot. He now seems to have much better control of that foot back.

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
