I am sick of the JVR bashing on this forum. You try performing in a.forward line that bombs it on top of your head week after week, and being coached by a backman who teaches him no forward craft. Don't be surprised if the way he is playing IS due to the way he has been instructed to play.

So we’ve stopped trying until half time

now we just are rubbish for the whole game

2 goals in a half.

2 GOALS IN A HALF?!

And one of them was from a class kossie bit of magic. Everything looks hard once it gets to the forward 50.

Coach absolutely has to go now.

Thank god Eagles are in it. Maybe our only win for year.

Not confident we can beat WC at all. We are the worst team in the comp atm

It says a lot on a top deck, perfect for footy, not a breath of wind and we’ve managed just 2 goals.

Just went out the shed and blew a dart.
Looked up at my '21 GF poster.
15 Premiership players we've got out here tonight.

Fumbly, sloppy, indecisive, none of them seem to know what they should be doing. It is unbelievable to think this was the team to beat a couple of years ago, they look like headless chooks out there.

When we had Roffey who was a great President because she offered something different. Green and Jones are Fanboys and they are not football intellects wide-armed person people (as Roffey was).

A lot of the reasons why we are in the mess we now find ourselves is due to Roffey’s ‘leadership’.

Her complacency as president is as great as Goodwin’s as coach.

Who knew that when you play one key forward who is only 193cm you won’t take F50 marks…. Oh that’s right every demon supporter and person other than the coaches.

Worst move he's made since Omac up forward

Sigh. It is all looking too familiar.

Scrappily keep ourselves clinging on in the general play but completely failing to take the opportunities when we manage to send it forward.

Gradually falling behind... and then...

The shoulders drop and there's a 15 minute period where we give away multiple goals.

Sometimes the cycle repeats twice in a single game, sometime the slump period just runs out the rest of the game like against Geelong.

It is almost the exact opposite of our 2021 experience - grinding away with a slight steady advantage, until the opponent can't keep up and we shatter them at some stage of the second half.

100%. JVR has shown he is a player, we are absolutely ruining his development.

15….

Just let that sink in.

Remember last year? Don't count on it

When you are watching it live you get a true appreciation to how substandard the skill level is , including routine short passes! The number of times kicking to opposition players!! Woeful !!

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

Hands up if you thought, like me, at half-time in yesterday’s game at TIO Traeger Park, Alice Springs that Melbourne’s disposal around the ground and, in particular, its kicking inaccuracy in front of the goals couldn’t get any worse. Well, it did. And what’s even more damning for the Melbourne Football Club is that the game against St Kilda and its resurgence from the bottomless pit of its miserable start to the season wasn’t just lost through poor conversion for goal but rather in the 15 minutes when the entire team went into a slumber and was mugged by the out-of-form Saints. Their six goals two behinds (one goal less than the Demons managed for the whole game) weaved a path of destruction from which they were unable to recover. Ross Lyon’s astute use of pressure to contain the situation once they had asserted their grip on the game, and Melbourne’s self-destructive wastefulness, assured that outcome. The old adage about the insanity of repeatedly doing something and expecting a different result, was out there. Two years ago, the score line in Melbourne’s loss to the Giants at this same ground was 5 goals 15 behinds - a ratio of one goal per four scoring shots - was perfectly replicated with yesterday’s 7 goals 21 behinds.
This has been going on for a while and opens up a number of questions. I’ll put forward a few that come to mind from this performance. The obvious first question is whether the club can find a suitable coach to instruct players on proper kicking techniques or is this a skill that can no longer be developed at this stage of the development of our playing group? Another concern is the team's ability to counter an opponent's dominance during a run on as exemplified by the Saints in the first quarter. Did the Demons underestimate their opponents, considering St Kilda's goals during this period were scored by relatively unknown forwards? Furthermore, given the modest attendance of 6,721 at TIO Traeger Park and the team's poor past performances at this venue, is it prudent to prioritize financial gain over potentially sacrificing valuable premiership points by relinquishing home ground advantage, notwithstanding the cultural significance of the team's connection to the Red Centre?
