Great effort and the 1st gamer's did well, Trac great 1st game, positives take always but  baffling how the club hasn’t addressed our fwd line issues since 21 with trading in an experienced forward to support JVR & Jeffo, the polish of GWS shone  through.. Fritsch away looking for the easy goal

Honestly do you only come on here to bring the tone down?

That was an intense game with a lot to consider against the early apparent most likely grand final opponent.

One-sided festivals of sourness aren't called for.

Some great signs today of the beginning of the transformation we need.

Caleb Windsor is becoming one of my favourites.

He's such a small frame but just breaks tackles with ease and delivers the ball so well.

He reminds me of Robbie Flower so much.

We need someone fast to play defensively in the middle. Sharp maybe.

I'm looking forward to seeing us play on a dry deck next week

Did  Max get much TOG?

Overall a good hitout

Like  a lot of what I saw today

Smart, Henderson were servicable and AJ had the option to seal the game and failed to convert. Hopefully he learns from that. But he'll be a good backup ruck for Gawny throughout the year.

i’m not sure he’s a ruck

So Darcy Moore can be reckless and all the responsibility falls in the only player that is actually playing by the rules and has the chance to contest for the ball?

I’m not going to derail a game day thread.
The rule is plain for all if you elect to bump and hit the head you will be suspended.

Whether I agree with the length of the suspension or not, is irrelevant.

He was always missing today minimum with that bump and he likely

So we’ll agree to disagree cost us 4 points

Bad decision to bring a cold Langford on straight in the middle when the game was there to be won.

We should have milked the clock a bit more with two minutes to go.

Umps were woeful and that mark that wasn’t paid to viney being not fifteen was a disgrace

to go

2 through injuries and 1 through a dumb act on ground and not for the first time. He needs to own that because he would have been a point of difference today

Instead of owning it he will just move to Freo….

Genuine question, are you trolling?

A mile off it? We just lost a game by 3 points to a serious premiership contender in a game we should have won.

Also, If you don’t understand the fitness advantage of having already played a home and away game this year prior to today’s game, then there’s not much that can be explained to you.

Genuine answer, no, I'm just heartily sick of seeing this team lose games they should win. And it comes down to poor execution, lack of efficiency and not impacting the scoreboard during times of dominance. We should have been 4 goals up at half time. Game should have been over at three quarter time. It had nothing to do with fitness, we were running as hard as they were in the last.

Not sure, i reckon he comes out for turner next week

Nice snap early and a couple of tackles in the second Q but not much aside from that

Jefferson jogged after an opponent late in the game on the centre/wing

That alone could bring an exclusion for our next game. Given the circumstances, it was an ordinary effort

We tried, Lever went inboard to Salem, but the ump called not 15, probably consistent with how they are umpiring this year

Spewing, we lost but showed lots of positives today.  We are lowered our eyes going forward and used the corridor.  GWS are very good

The game was always coming down to the wire for me and the Giants were probably just a bit slicker when it counted.

Plenty to like out there today. Xavier Lindsay was everything I thought we were getting when we drafted him. Harry Sharp gives a lot of zip not only out wide but in close when you need a quick option. Aidan Johnson gave us another physical body that we've been craving and didn't look one bit afraid when in ruck duties.

Great to see Petracca look as strong as ever, Clayton worked his socks off. Jake Lever I thought was outstanding in the absence of May and Harry Petty a welcome return down back.

You can look at these ones two ways, missed opportunities to bank some early points or a gallant effort against a finals side you can build on. No right or wrong answers but enough to keep Dees fans interested this season I reckon.

Go Dees.

A big body fwd has been begging since 21 with Brown having knee issues, yet who have we traded in to assist JVR & now Jefferson?? The Werribee boys tried there hearts but they are fill ins compared to the class of GWS

I hate honorable losses. Hate em.

Yep. I don't hear 'honourable'. All I hear is 'loss'.

We played pretty well considering how many newbies we had, but that old Gawn bloke cost us the game with his 25 metre miss. Perhaps we should send him to kicking school.

the only surprising thing about the way it ended was that it wasnt Toby Greene kicking the winning goal.  11 touches in the last? We dont have a match up as feared prematch.

Debutantes were great.  AJ gives 110 percent but might break the record for frees against in a single season. He's got to find a way to compete  against 2nd rucks without holding.

Perhaps a tad harsh but underwhelmed with Langford.   At junior level being a big body can hide your lack of pace but around the stoppages there was no spring in the heels.  Macth committee will have a decision to make.  He needs to play but rather he play at casey than sit on a bench every week for 3 quarters?

Ofc Lindsay.  Kick the ball his way. Nuff said.

Next week under the dome will be a mucb faster end to end game.  We need to be ready.  Norf have weapons.

What's up with Fritter?

Need McVee, May and Kozzy back ASAP to lift the overall talent level in the team. Chandler, Howes the first to go.

I wish you could give AJs mindset to Jefferson.

To everyone having a crack at JVR, he was on Taylor who had almost no impact on the game. Time to learn modern footy

Yes, he was on Taylor, who is a gun. But on a lot of occasions JVR did all the work, got into position and got 2 free hands to the ball in a marking contest only to be too far beneath the ball, and his hands let the ball go behind him. He is a very good player and could be anything  but this default mistake is too common.

How we could let that ball travel from coast to coast with no pressure was disappointing.

That set play is so standard for them. I was shocked we weren't ready for it

The game was 50/50. In the end, Giants steamrolled us in the last quarter, probably aided by match fitness gained from Round 0. Is it fair? No. Does the AFL care? No Will the club do anything about it? No

Best we all just accept it and move on.

At first glance, we will have a good shot at Top 4, if we maintain our fitness. We have some solid players to come back over the next month or so and need to bank at least 3 win in the first 6 games. Not going to be easy.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

For a brief period of time in the early afternoon of yesterday, the Casey Demons occupied top place on the Smithy’s VFL table. This was only made possible by virtue of the fact that the team was the only one in this crazy competition to have played twice and it’s 1½ wins gave it an unassailable lead on the other 20 teams, some of who had yet to play a game.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

In my all-time nightmare game, the team is so ill-disciplined that it concedes its first two goals with the courtesy of not one, but two, fifty metre penalties while opening its own scoring with four behinds in a row and losing a talented youngster with good decision-making skills and a lethal left foot kick, subbed off in the first quarter with what looks like a bad knee injury.

  • PREGAME: Geelong

After a one-year reprieve, the Demons return down the freeway to Kardinia Park — the site of both one of our greatest triumphs and one of our darkest days — as they face the Cats under Friday night lights. This one could get ugly. Who comes in, and who comes out?
