NON-MFC: Round 01

It’s probably been mentioned previously but that last goal celebration was quite exhilarating outdoing the hockboys efforts.

And in a Lexus if you don’t mind. lol.!!!

I’m sure the other car veered into his path and that he was only attempting to smother. Hope the driver of the other car was OK.

Nice one Bickley

I couldn’t remember during the game, so I was calling him “ tall angry Andre Agassi”.

ButI think it’s McIntosh.

Mc Intosh played his best game EVER last night! A few oher bits... I thought Caleb Daniels played as unnaccountable footy as any in the AFL including N Faicos, then I saw Adam Saad, gees talk about lose!

Harry Mc Kay will cost Carltank a Grand Final one day with his shocking kicking for goal!! Oh hang on, they wont even make the 8!😇

I'm torn.
Wish Ooze all the best and Richmond all the worst.
It's complicated.

Richmond > Carlton that's all there is to this. Tigers winning a few games is fine, they've suffered alot.

I'm surprised coaches don't put a stop to celebrations like it due to injury risks TBH.
Remember Roos ripped Petracca a new one for doin' his ankle playin' basketball.

Which one of their 3 flags was suffering?

I should have said recently. But yeah, I hope they don't beat us haha.

Beat us to another flag.

All in all a good night last night.  Happy for Yze.

Another way to look at it is if Collingwood for some reason no longer existed, Carlton would be ‘it’.

Might end up blowing up all in our face Sunday but who cares right now

Even if we get spanked on Sunday, its nowhere near a bad as losing to Richmond.

I agree 100% with such morbid sentiments 😁 Worst Carlton game I have watched for many years 🤮 Voss doesn't have it what it takes, I like the guy, legend of a player, not cut out to be a senior AFL coach with the style of football played today.

I would have waited till we played Richmond before making that statement.

do you think it's the style of football or the players available?

i just don't see baggers outside that clutch of sides 5-14, of which i see the mfc in too

Lynch was very important for the Tiges last night.  Played his role like a proper forward (in front, competed hard, made position and led well) Didn't star but he played a very important role

So if AJ gets the nod on Sunday we'll need him to play a similar role (as well as doing the 2nd ruck duties)

I've got JVR up at CHF as he's got untapped ability with regards to creativity.  Turner as the possible 3rd forward with Fritsch as the opportunist (that's what he is good at)

A bit of both.

Voss seems incapable of meaningful in game responsive changes and can't seem to breakout out of the straightjacket of the contested and stoppage game he understands to evolve into the modern game played today. To be a genuine top 4 contender this Carlton list also needs another quality tall defender and a quality small forward.

Agreed that the Blues are a 5 to 14 side.

I honestly believe a more capable coaching team with a few minor list changes could get this side a flag. It won't happen under Michael Voss.

I didn't hear that, though he talked it about it last year as emerging trend (was 3 of 4 then).

I would be be very surprised if he said the inside 50 count was not a factor.

I only had 'half and ear' to the conversation. Whately (?) asked Hoyne about the importance of I50's cf ball movement and Hoyne gave the example of last year's GF where the Swans had only two fewer I50's (49-51) but lost by 10 goals.

Whately then asked who you'd draft first - a good mid-fielder (clearance player) or a good half back.

I don't think Hoyne gave a definitive answer (both equally important, or have their role).

BTW I don't know what 'ball movement ' means, or how you measure it. Scores from transition from your back half?

See yourself out thanks...

Carlton has a lot of ordinary players.

And they have lost 8 of their last 10 games with their 2 wins being against North and West Coast.

McGovern, Haynes, Cowan, Saad, Acres, Kemp, Cottrell, Williams are not up to it for senior players.

The look at the young guys Lord, Motlop, Fogarty, Evans, Camporeale - average but early days

As for McKay - gosh he's hopeless

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
