With the amount of rubbish I’ve dumped on Collingwood and Carlton friends I really need a Demon win.

Oh me too! I’ve really let my Pies and Blues friends/ family know about it. Hope I don’t live to regret this come Sunday afternoon 🙏

I was ready to go bang on Yze after 15 minutes in this game but thought, wait on let's just see what happens. Good thing I did - guess I'm maturing slightly.

Also ..I don’t like Richmond but compare the celebrations of their young players compared to Hawthorn.. I automatically loathed Hawks more because of the arrogance & the “me me” celebrations.

How great is it to see both Collingwood and Carlton lose. Carlton season over already. Voss will be the first coach sacked.

P Cripps...................3 votes 😁

I thought this very thing. I know he got the pill a bit but I hardly noticed him.

meanwhile . . . over at big footy:

  1. In the last 15 years, we've spent seasons at the bottom of the ladder with Richmond, Brisbane, and Melbourne, trading wooden spoons with them. Since then, Brisbane have a flag, Melbourne have a flag, and Richmond have three. Now Richmond are rebuilding again and may well beat us to the next flag. We've become a St Kilda-level basket case.
  2. Last 2 premiership season games the CFC have dished up the embarrassing 60-0 v Brisbane just before half time EF. And now conceding 12 of the last 14 goals to the wooden spooners .

And as if the news couldn't get any better for us, remember this:

In 2024, Carlton traded its 2025 Round 1 selection and 2025 Round 2 selection to Hawthorn for its 2024 Round 1 selection in the 2024 and 2025 AFL Drafts respectively.

Loved it, several things stood out:

3 debut games - that is hopefully a good omen for us, well done to RFC on recruiting.

Great for Yze after KC being a duckbit during the week.

TDK has all the tools but desire, Jacob W has also gone soft, played for frees as did many of his team mates, I cannot believe VOSS coaches that.

Richmond 33 don't know who he is but he annoyed the hell out of Cripps, now have a soft spot for him despite the ridiculous headband.

Goal kicking is good football.

I hate Carlton...

13 goals 4 - making the most of the opportunities is the key to winning games of footy

I couldn’t remember during the game, so I was calling him “ tall angry Andre Agassi”.

ButI think it’s McIntosh.

In fairness to Carlton they probably won on expected scores….

I don't know about scores but they were certainly expected to win.

It’s been a good start to the year so far.

Swans and pies last week – fantastic.

Blues this week – hilarious.

Hopefully Essendon and Geelong keep the smiles coming.

And I wouldn’t complain if the swans and pies do it again.

Ruined my footy tipping, but it was worth it.  And a decent game to watch too to start the season.

Probably not. 99.999% of people would have tipped Carlton not taking into account any Richmond nuffies who never tip against their teams. If you have a comp stacked with them you’ll make it up very soon.

Yes I’m doubling down.

Daniel Hoyne said on Monday that 4 of the last 5 premierships were won by teams that were top three in ball movement. By that he meant their goals emanated largely from their half back line. The inside 50 count was not a factor.

Our 2021 premiership was the exception.

I didn't hear that, though he talked it about it last year as emerging trend (was 3 of 4 then).

I would be be very surprised if he said the inside 50 count was not a factor.

Goes to show how much stock coaching staff put into expected score, that Richmond have one of their greatest ever wins and the coach still mentions that they got done on expected score.

From 'The Age' just now:

Collingwood premiership star Brayden Maynard was involved in a car accident on Thursday morning.

The Magpies said no one was injured in what football boss Charlie Gardiner described as “an unfortunate accident” involving another car.

Sounds like he drives in much the same manner as he plays football, except he didn't injure anybody this time.  "Unfortunate accident", hey?

And in a Lexus if you don’t mind. lol.!!!

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

Hands up if you thought, like me, at half-time in yesterday’s game at TIO Traeger Park, Alice Springs that Melbourne’s disposal around the ground and, in particular, its kicking inaccuracy in front of the goals couldn’t get any worse. Well, it did. And what’s even more damning for the Melbourne Football Club is that the game against St Kilda and its resurgence from the bottomless pit of its miserable start to the season wasn’t just lost through poor conversion for goal but rather in the 15 minutes when the entire team went into a slumber and was mugged by the out-of-form Saints. Their six goals two behinds (one goal less than the Demons managed for the whole game) weaved a path of destruction from which they were unable to recover. Ross Lyon’s astute use of pressure to contain the situation once they had asserted their grip on the game, and Melbourne’s self-destructive wastefulness, assured that outcome. The old adage about the insanity of repeatedly doing something and expecting a different result, was out there. Two years ago, the score line in Melbourne’s loss to the Giants at this same ground was 5 goals 15 behinds - a ratio of one goal per four scoring shots - was perfectly replicated with yesterday’s 7 goals 21 behinds.
This has been going on for a while and opens up a number of questions. I’ll put forward a few that come to mind from this performance. The obvious first question is whether the club can find a suitable coach to instruct players on proper kicking techniques or is this a skill that can no longer be developed at this stage of the development of our playing group? Another concern is the team's ability to counter an opponent's dominance during a run on as exemplified by the Saints in the first quarter. Did the Demons underestimate their opponents, considering St Kilda's goals during this period were scored by relatively unknown forwards? Furthermore, given the modest attendance of 6,721 at TIO Traeger Park and the team's poor past performances at this venue, is it prudent to prioritize financial gain over potentially sacrificing valuable premiership points by relinquishing home ground advantage, notwithstanding the cultural significance of the team's connection to the Red Centre?
