Yeah I feel like if we are wanting to go back to the old emblem we need to see make it modern.

Don't mind this actually. Seems NBL/NBA inspired, but I like how it still maintains the characteristics of the retro flamehead but with contemporary styling.

Wonder if it would look better without the red around the whole thing. Either way, just making it a little more modern would definitely make the older one look much better!

That’s excellent.

Yeah nah. Leave it as it currently is.

The only correct answer. & keep it forever!

Leave it..

We're good

I think the current emblem is brilliant but the use of flamehead and other initiatives is important to captivate the younger audiences.

Must admit I am not a fan of the current emblem and never have been.

New era at Melbourne maybe it'd be cool to have a new emblem to go with the new identity

Emblem?

Logo?

Nothing wrong with having more than one emblem/logo. Can appeal to different fan demographics.

The current emblem is class. I think leave it untouched. If they want to tap into the Demon theme, there are other ways, without tarnishing the emblem. Similar to how Sydney have the opera house on their Guernsey and still have the swans in their logo type of thing.

My son bought one of the flame head guernseys instantly, kids love the Demon! I love the Demon, it's a huge part of why I love this footy club.

Bring back the Demon!

MFC monogram for formal stuff, Demon logo for marketing, merchandise etc

It's not rocket science, kids go to Target or Kmart and see merch with Magpies, Hawks, Tigers and an MFC monogram. It's hardly appealing to a younger audience.

Looks like a Beatnik

I can proudly report that my 8-month old selected the classy 2016 'shield and monograph' members scarf from the selection offered. So glad his skipped the 2011 one decisively.

Wife has her 2021 scarf, with a similar simple embkem, she knows what's good.

I'm emotionally attached to my original 2000 scarf with the slightly goofy 'vampire with flame' emblem from the Daniher era.

I dunno about that. I don’t think Carlton has any issues selling merch with the CFC monogram and without “Blues” meaning anything. Essendon’s logo is a plane and that doesn’t seem to stop them selling merch. Port’s logo is a monogram too.

In saying that, I do think we should be leaning into the demon heavily. Using the flamehead as a retro throwback once a year is IMO a perfect way to do that.

We ditched the demon in the Schwab era for the "Melbournefc" monstrosity because the club was trying to win over Chinese migrants and they felt the demon would turn them away. Never should have changed. That said I like the current logo.

I think there is another issue at play here. In a couple of years' time the Tasmanian Devils will be part of the competition. Tasmania could make use of the animal called the Tasmanian Devil, but they might also like to use imagery of devils in general. I don't know what the difference is between a demon and a devil, but if we want to own the imagery of demons, we need to make use of it consistently now to get ahead of Tasmania.

Yeh Ted l reckon it looks like a pine cone. I’d prefer to see the flame head back.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
