I know this isn’t a real match but I’m intrigued why a bog-average team like Freo have had such an edge over us? There was the infamous game in 2022, Jackson’s grudge match in 2023, and the two shellackings last year. Who could forget them going 24-1 in clearances (or something like that) in the last outing? I hope we’re not embarrassed again on Sunday.
I am curious to see who we’ve got earmarked as the main lockdown small defender in the absence of McVee and AMW. We are very light on in that area.

If it's more than 2 standard paragraphs long no Demonlanders will read it.

Very droll.  But I think the wide readership of Binman's posts prove the contrary.

Agreed they have great individual talent, but are they a great team?

I just realised the reality of your statement. I look at the talent they have in the midfield and forward line and it's top shelf. But they only managed to win 1.5 games more than us last year, and we had a shocker. Something is NQR at the purple haze

Another way of looking it was that after  round 21 they were 12-6 and third on the ladder. Then they copped injuries to Treacy, Darcy and Pearce and lost their remaining games. They’re a highly talented team but couldn’t handle a few injuries that a Brisbane Lions could.

Im assuming they turn off inbox notifications, so they can treat the place like their own personal soapbox, and everyone else as mere consumers of their content.

There was a demon fan redditor on AFL that did this, leaving horrible injury cheering comments and Putting down our players etc. And never responding. Eventually they were shadow-banned by Moderators ie comments made invisible.

Because they turned off inbox replies and never interacted, they were completely unaware for years that nobody could see anything they wrote and posted LOL. I know because I'd occasionally look at their profile to still see them posting invisible comments years later.

Bit of a tangent!

I’d be interested in a league wide injury list. Feels like it’d be substantial

Their run of form in 2022-2024 reminds me a lot of us in 2018 (breakout year), 2019 (everything went wrong), 2020 (good side that throws in an inexplicable loss and a couple of close games against good sides and somehow doesn't play finals).

We got beaten by their best footy last year in terrible match ups with our midfield unable to run and theirs being both strong at the contest and super fit. They weren't really shock results.

I want both of their ruckman to feel what it's like to have a big solid bloke straight at their bodies.

Lachie Schultz has mercifully gone, Walters is closer to retirement, but Switkowski and Frederick must be licking their chops. Last line of defence is looking like a re-run of the eighth series of Are You Being Served?

Steven May, Big Man’s attire, Captain Peacock look-a-like Rick Lever, Smalls and Talls? and Tmac back pocket, with barely a hankerchief to cover Darcy and Jackson.

Windsor is no certainty and Bowey brave to a fault but no lockdown specialist. Leaves the cupboard decidedly bare. If Freo smalls get on the fly and the zipper get jammed there’l be hell to pay.

That last game was horrible. We went with no ruck and put Viney against a midfield of Serong, Brayshaw and Young. Complete inability to adapt or change our game plan. Never stood a chance!

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
