Selection integrity. I am sure there are some players who would agree with that line Red.

Sounds ominous.

Maybe the onus is on Tom to play more than 3 good games before he gets a shot.

This is why some players come straight back in and others don't get dropped even when out of form.

Yep... like Rooh, Sharp, Petty, Spargo.

They should never be demoted!

JVR and Petty are miles ahead of Fullarton in terms of skill and quality, and both have way more upside. Remember Fullarton has a lot of exposed form at Brisbane in AFL and at VFL level, and the calls for his inclusion are based off 2 strong VFL performances only.

Spargo is a 100 game AFL player who has strong decision making, particularly going by foot inside F50. Sure he is not a superstar, and he isn't a lock selection at all times. But he brings significant attributes we are lacking otherwise and his selection is ahead of players like Laurie and Billings.

Sharp has brought significant speed and endurance to the squad, attribute lack particularly with the loss of ANB. Again he may not be a lock but I can see why he is playing ahead of Laurie, Billings, etc.

On the other hand, JVR has no upside w.r.t height. He will remain stuck on 193 cm. Fullarton at 200 cm will disrupt the opposition's defence. JVR, Melksham and Fritsch are leading forwards Their selection as the tall forwards has the odour of a finals match.

I would like to think that JVR and Fritta would have been dropped in a normal week - ie. when the VFL were actually playing.

I hope they both play as well as they can - and hope they have been told this is their last chance.

How many of those frothing at mouth about Fullartons non selection have seen anything of him at all other than the stats sheet?

Fritsch and Petty are liabilities and have been for 20 matches or more

Unfortunately I don't think Goodwin rates the VFL that highly and unless Fullerton can string say 6 really impressive games together or we get injuries he will keep picking hi best '23' even when not inform..

Just get a damn forwards coach who was an ACTUAL FORWARD to teach JVR the craft. Chaplin is not the answer as he will show how to defend as a forward but not how to play like one.

He’s 26! There’s a reason he’s only played 19 AFL games in that time

Then why did we bring him in? He has finally showed some sort of form at VFL level, with others underperforming, yet Goodie refuses to play him.

It makes me think there is a bit of a disconnect between the recruitment and the coaching.

I believe Fullerton’s nickname is “cream”

Might need to change it to sour cream

Reminds me of that old Robert Palmer song:

"he's simply unselectable"...

Selection integrity is a dirty word at the MFC and non existent it would seem by the selection committee.

The consistency of our club trading players from other clubs who couldn’t get a game & sitting @ Casey is such a poor reflection of were we are at! Either our list manager has no idea or we don’t have cap space, or any decent player refuses to come due to culture issues! I see forwards like Darling & Membry whilst at the end of their careers I shake my head as we clearly have a fwd issue!

Hindsight is 20-20 vision, but yes, we should have played him.

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
