Pick 23 is a very good burner pick which might hypothetically sweeten a deal for a hypothetical club which might hypothetically be in need of points for academy players.

Don't let the door hit you on the way out Judd.

Enjoy the back pocket at Freo cause that's about where you belong.

Will definitely be playing back pocket at Freo. Had some good games for us. All the best Judd. Freo now home to three former dees. Glad kozzy isn’t one of them.

Id be worried about Rivers now

He's not the first player to sook because he wants to play a role that brings more individual glory but isn't quite good enough compared to the other options.

However its the first time l have heard a player complain about playing one defensive role over another very similar one. Freo will be similar. Very odd.

lmo he hasn't told the truth about why he is departing hence the mixed messages.

Could be stuff you don't like to tell the media ie doesn't like the club, or players, where we are heading, or just wants to split from the gf to go back to child hood sweetheart ... who knows but ɗoubt its about a defensive role

think its definitely on par, a player with 6 games of 21+ disposals in 65. he is afl standard yes but has a ceiling, for an OOC player i think its clean enough business, the notes about first pick of second night are definitely interesting adds more value to it, can comfortably slip 2-3 spots and get a pick in the 30s next year as collateral, over to you JT

I actually hope the club keeps this pick as it's the first pick in the second round, which is very valuable on draft night

Only have to cast your eyes back to last year, where North Melbourne traded its future first to Richmond for the same pick.

Now Richmond has picks 3 and 4 in this year's draft, so hopefully a club that's similarly down the bottom likes someone who's still on the board come draft night and does the same thing

Happy for us to hold some second rounders. Been a while since JT has had a chance to do something that takes his talent.

By the time the clouds clear a little we'll have a few picks. Most useless really to us as they are but we're not too shabby in horsehaggling to get upgrades.

Oh poor judd... overates his own ability somewhat..... NFO!

Not sure what people are complaining about. A top of the 2nd round draft pick is not too shabby.

And if it is WCE ND23 it is the first pick in the 2nd round - a highly valued and in high demand at the start of the 2nd night of the draft. So I hope we hold it until then as traditionally clubs pay overs to draft any sliders from the first round.

Also, the trade people here wanted ND 12 for our pick 27 and McVee in points terms is approx ND 25. ND23 is a better result no matter how one looks at.

ps I'm still shattered at losing him🥹

Yep.

Remind me luci what draft pick did we get for nibbla?

I get your point Luci but I'd still much rather the ND12.

I haven't followed the draft at all this year to be honest with our lack of top end capital but with the constant talk of it being a little bit soft, I'd much rather be at the pointy end.

I don't mind the concept of the points when discussing later trades or future trade scenarios but I'm still always happy to burn some point value to get the better pick.

“Pick 23”. Ok. Turns into pick 32 after the compensation and protection of Academy and father/son picks. Probably just fair as he walked out as an uncontested player.

Dees have now

2nd round 23, 27, 41,

3rd round 60,

4th round 65.

I think the Suns pick 6 is worth 1659 points. Picks 23,27 and 41 worth 1946 total. Would we do a swap to help them with their academy picks?

Points are a garbage metric, pick 12 is worth more than pick 23 & 27 combined every day of the week.

We’re a weak pushover club

Not demanding 11 or 19 and then accepting 23 when we could’ve sent him to WCE sums up where we’re at

Literally 4 picks earlier could’ve been ours

Not like it could bite us though. We haven't for example ended up with a guy like Bailey Laurie instead of Max Holmes because we were two picks further down the draft order.

As @Lucifers Hero and others have said pick 1 on night 2 has some extra value. Hope we hold it.

This, hold it for night two and see what offers we get. Hopefully we'll nab a future 1st. The Petracca and Oliver trades should set us up with a decent draft hand for this draft.

It's the other way around, the dockers picked him cause they can see untapped ability

It’s fine. I don’t sweat the small stuff. He was OOC.

I hope we keep it as it has inflated value after draft night.

We might snag an another 1st round pick for 2026. Hopefully the club can stop being ‘so smart’ and just hold its picks for a bit.

Not to mention how badly we wanted Bailey Humphrey and couldn’t do a deal with essendon

What!!? He's not the same player. Has he morphed into someone else. Taken some poly juice.

He had a down year in 2025 at 22, suffering injury for the first time. He has so much footy in front of him. He is a great pick up by Fremantle and we just rolled over.

Creates space to bring AMW back into the 23.

Easy to move on.

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
