He did look ok for someone having his first start at VFL level

He has decent speed, seems to read the game well and neat skills

Is, or will he be a little undersized for AFL - that is probably the main concern (has some time on his side)

He is listed at 180cm (5’11”) in old terms, fast smart and piercing left foot kick.😁

Size won’t be a problem if he can rack em up and hit targets - just look at Errol Gulden

Very good first game. Needs to work on his repeat speed, tackling and the classic left footers issue on what to do when he gets hemmed in.

Handball over the top to a running Windsor

I saw him kick a couple of right foot kicks that were arguably better than what Viney, Trac and Oliver dish up on their preferred.

He'll be fine cobba.

Fair enough - perhaps that in itself will not be a problem

As I said he does have time on his side and should fill out a bit with an AFL weights program

He reminded me a bit of Kynan Brown who I'd love to think will make it but so far looks a 50/50 proposition

@Sydee sorry Sinnema is not like Kynan Brown.

KB is a tackling machine with good 2nd efforts but has a poor kick that holds him back from playing AFL footy. He is a defensive oriented player.

Sinnema has an elite left foot disposal , moves well as an outside runner but will need time to develop his defensive side with tackling & 2nd efforts.

Is Sinnema eligible this year?

Yep

Likely he will be added as a Cat B NGA rookie selection. Has had a good year and is a classy user of the footy. However imv would be a late draft pick at best or perhaps not drafted if it was in the a free pool.

We don't have B-Rookie spots for next year. Mentha and Berry have them; Berry till 2027

Upgrade Mentha? Or just use a rookie pick for Sinnema.

Had to look up Berry as I had completely forgotten him.

Has anybody heard what he's been doing since we picked him up.

University 3rds or whatever?

I don’t want to question you (I’m pretty sure you are always on the money) but I thought the press release for Menthas extension was he was now a Cat A?

Haven't found any media release on Cat A.

Either would work.

again, not a single word from anyone at the club, that is an article from afl dot com and doesn't have a single quote, i get it i see it but i want to see the club announce something

Has anyone heard anything about Toby recently, the silence seems to be deafening. Maybe we may pass on him after the ND, and see what is left over for rookying in his reserved spot?

“The Demons haven't nominated Next Generation Academy prospect Toby Sinnema, with the Dandenong Stingray a chance to be a train-on option after the draft if not selected”.

From Cal Twomey’s Phantom Draft

I thought Sinnema showed enough this year to get a rookie spot. His game at Casey showed his outside run and skill would be a handy addition. Obviously there’s other considerations that make up whether he’s worthy of being added to the list. Wait & see.

Good luck to the kid, but thinking he will miss as the club has already seen enough of him to make a call

Our list was full after Onley was taken.

Unless you are talking future chances, he has missed out at this point.

As part of the effort to trim the runtime of the regular podcast, we’ve been looking at which segments could be reshaped without losing what makes them valuable. One segment that naturally came into focus was Binman’s Stats Files. Not because it isn’t important; quite the opposite. It’s become such a substantial and much-loved part of the show that it deserves a little room to breathe.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
