A list really needs top 28-30 so these so called fringe players are vital.

Yeah, don't disagree with you there Mono.  Having guys like Tomo etc to capably plug holes for us when required was key to us finishing top and winning the flag on 21.

Just that there was a time I think Harmes was probably on the right side of the 22 between best 22 and fringe though and probably played more like 18 - 22 games of the regular season in a premiership team.  That he only played 9 games last year suggests he's probably not quite at that level any more.

Fitness won’t be an issue, he’s an elite runner and has kept himself ticking over in the off-season.

Club have earmarked that ANB high half forward spot as his role.

I think we've got a good 2 or 3 player earmarked for that ANB role now - might take all three to replace him.

Congrdulations to Jack, what a great oppertunity he's earnt himself and look forward to seeing how he performs if he gets his chance on the big stage.

... is there any recognition from the club at all that we've had this player for half a day?

Nothing I can see on website or the couple of socials I have...

EDIT: I see La Dee beat me to it, sorry

Thanks - but that article is still conjecturing. It may well be correct, but it's not an official statement.

I suspect that there is quite a bit of the dreaded AFL "paperwork" to complete regarding McAdam's injury and sign-off by the AFL  General Counsel to make it clear that there is that spot to be filled. That probably delays an official announcement.

Small forward/mid with good goal sense, smarts and tackling.

Lacks stand out attributes to be a big difference maker but can come in and do a role from day 1 if he’s had a good summer VFL training at a high enough level.

With Pickett’s suspension, Spargo still injured and Kolt injured there’s going to be opportunity.

What a great highlights package.  Numerous things I like:

*  Ability to hold his nerve, perform on the big stage and nail key passes and goals

*  Great range, with numerous goals nailed from the 50m + line

*  Great take takling technique for the modern game

*  Looks the complete package with his range of skills including marking and good decisions by hand and foot

Perhaps it's putting too much pressure and expectations on a guy that's only just got a spot as a supplementary player, but all the above and the way he appears to go about his game actually reminds me alot of Gus.

I know so little about him… what are his best attributes and do you think he can step straight in ?

Well we know one thing! He can slot a goal from a set shot at 50m

Welcome Jack…

He’s quick, an excellent kick for goal and sticks tackles. Cost us nothing and adds to our depleted small forward stocks. What’s not to like. We wish him well.

I'm guessing he's still in WA and may not have formally put pen to paper just yet.

I suspect we'll see an article in the coming days after he's come back to Melbourne and done the admin stuff at dees headquarters. Get him kitted out in a dees polo, 2min interview for socials etc...

Went to primary school with the kid that played Brains (kid in the red shirt for all you non gen Xers)- being a short Henderson.... Brains sounds perfect 👌 for our new one

Out of all the recruit players i have watched in these drafts this kid, along with one other stands out. The other one will be playing Game one.  Hopefully this one will get a run in the the first half of the year.

The Beautiful Nadine Garner, worked on a few shows over years with here. Pleasure to work with always….

Congratulations to Jack Henderson getting a chance at the Demons.

His former Werribee Premiership teammate in Aidan Johnson will be incredibly excited to have him join us here at the Melbourne Football Club.

Jack Henderson definitely reminds me a bit of Tom Papley from the Swans. Especially the way he moves.

Good luck to him and I hope he grabs this opportunity to play AFL at the Demons!

I watched both of those highlights videos and didn't see one left foot kick. Let's hope he's half as good as the other player on our list without a left - jack viney

Understand.  So probably frindge, not best 22 (similar to where he ended up with us).  The thing being, we could have done with a findge mid to provide depth last season, as I'm fairly sure he would have given us way more than Laurie Vs GWS and say maybe a game we lost by a few points against Brisbane etc and might have tipped us into playing finals contention... not that we might have had that much impact with the way our season ended.

In some respects I think it was actually better for us not to make finals last year.  Few better draft picks and extended presason for Oliver and whoever else was carrying injuries and tires from x3 intense seasons running right to the pointy end.

I loved Harmes. He wasn't a Rolls Royce but was best 22 for us and will always be a premiership hero. Who could forget that kick to Fritta in the third quarter to start the greatest 20mins of football a demon fan has ever seen?

I don't have any inside info on what happened between him and the club in 2023, but I can't help but think we would have won the semi final against Collingwood if we had an in form Harmes as the substitute instead of Laurie to replace Brayshaw. Was he so checked out of the club that he wasn't a better option at the time? Maybe he was had injuries the club wasn't telling us about... I guess I'm still bitter about 2023. It will be the one we look back on as the one that got away.

I've watched a number of his games at the Western Bulldogs. It was a rough start to the year for him. He didn't seem to fit into the team and looked very much the 2023 version. He was in and out of the team a few times before getting on a roll in the second half of the year and playing some really good footy. He did a hammy early in a game against the pies but was a surprise inclusion for their elimination final against the Swans.

I did in the first 30 seconds out of the centre.

Good little connection is that Mark Williams coached Henderson in 2019.

Poor Shane, but hopefully official confirmation of Henderson joining later today

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
