For a brief, shining moment, we were, post-2021.

That's our way.... shoot messengers.

It's a valid question.

For mine...  Can't possibly see how we are.

Best we do....whilst in "review".... putting out spot fires 🔥...   putting our WILD 🔥 🔥 🔥  ..  is hope for the best.

Seriously  people....take the red and blue glasses off and smell the flowers....  they're dead !!

If you asked me this time last year I would of said yes.

At the moment, we are seen as "unsettled" as a Club.

Hopefully, once both the external reviews are completed we will have a better idea of where the Melbourne Football Club stands.

But .... by time over and the "review"...reviewed...   trade period over.

Perception is a big thing.

We're about as attractive as a Covid ward atm imo

Sadly, correct.

2024 is a total write off.

Dan Houston ghosted us like a Tinder date.

Although we did get Tom "Dinosaur" Campbell as a back up ruckman and we may get Wade  "Diggler" Derksen from GWS?

100% perception and only perception.

We have a list that when healthy = deep finals

****ty perception now as media pile on continues and will continue. We have the media offside. Get them back and we become desirable again. It's all in how it's spun. The salary cap is the salary cap, 3rd party deals still happen, the dangling of finals. Really not much between desirability and reality... if North Melbourne are able to attract interest.... they have nothing that is of interest to anyone, yet room in salary cap = paying overs

Let's face it, in the AFL world, you've got to deal with problems quickly. It's like putting out a small fire before it turns into a bushfire. Most issues aren't black and white, but try telling that to the AFL media - they're not big on subtlety.

This is where Melbourne keeps getting it wrong. The club had plenty of chances to get on top of issues early, but time and again, they've let things spiral out of control. It's like they're allergic to nipping problems in the bud.

When stuff hits the fan, Melbourne seems to freeze up. They don't tackle problems head-on, and when they do speak up, it's often too little, too late. Meanwhile, some media outlets are having a field day, churning out endless clickbait.

Every time Melbourne drops the ball like this, they're basically handing the media a golden ticket to blow things out of proportion. Before you know it, a small hiccup turns into back-page news, and the club's scrambling to put out fires everywhere.

All of these media issues would be making life really hard for our list management team to entice players to join the club.

Players have choices, and who wants to join a club that's always in the headlines for the wrong reasons?

Let’s face it we lost Houston when our pick 14-16 dropped to pick 5, we weren’t giving that up for Dan and we had nothing else but a F1st. Who would trade 5??

Swooper, agree with most of what you said here, but even since both us and Geelong have shut the Oliver trade stuff down, they continue to bang on and on about it. Seems they have an agenda and they are sticking to it.

Nothing out club says now is going to be taken as truth. Unfortunately.

That’s not the case. We were prepared to make the trade. It didn’t have to be our 1st rounder, we were prepared to trade out players to get additional draft capital if required.

We were still confident he was coming to us in the midst of our end of season slump.

In addition to that, remember when Richardson said the last thing we wanted to do was get younger? We were primed to add a 2x AA to what we thought was a list on the verge of a Premiership.

And that's part of my point. The AFL media environment is littered with people who are desperate for the next sensational headline. Unfortunately we've dished that up consistently in recent years, so they're simply looking for more, even if it's illogical. For the club, dealing with the media can no longer just be an afterthought. We have to get serious about it including understanding what can happen when we get it badly wrong. Right now our inability to manage the message is destabilising the club and harming our future prospects.

Do you think we've changed our focus to the draft now?

Thanks @JJJ - do you have any sense of whether the club still thinks this is a list on the verge of a premiership?

I’d be very curious to know how the FD views our list internally after the past couple of months

We have cash to spend. We can still get Talent in, but we have to play it smart, maybe the last 2-3 days….

We want to take 3 picks inside the top 30 to the draft is what I was told. Which makes the Freo 1st round pick rumour more interesting.

I am not sure TBH but I know senior leaders from the playing group think we will bounce back hard. It would be difficult to think that after the last month or so, we’d be confident that Trac will be 100% and that Oliver is back to his normal levels. Which we need to be Premiers.

Don't wanna burst any-ones bubble but we've never been a destination club.
Maybe in the 50's when they all wanted to play on the MCG.
The club and media made rumblings about being a destination club after the flag but who did we land?

Name me a big name recruit since .... Peter Moore and Templeton.
If we have their name escapes me.

Brodie Grundy?

Yeah interesting.

I'm intrigued to see what happens to our NGA prospects in Riak Andrew and Ricky Mentha then.

  • AFLW REPORT: Western Bulldogs

We’re back! That was fun. The Mighty Dees’ Season 10 campaign is off toa flying start with a commanding 48-point winover the Western Bulldogs, retaining the Hampson-Hardeman Cup in style. After a hard-fought first half in slippery conditions, the Dees came out in the second half and showcased their trademark superior class, piling on four goals in the third termand never looked back.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
