If we pick up Lindsay it will be like picking Toumpas, Scully, Trengove, Morton and Weideman all in the one go.

That'd be quite a versatile player!

Hasn’t worried Caleb Daniel
Size is not the main requirement for AFL if you have other boxes ticked. Teams need all different types of players remember mostly someone has to mind a small player and be skilled enough to counter cleverness.

Ah yes it has worried Daniel.

And I posted ‘slight’ - which is different to small. He looks to have a great kick in space. Everyone does. I don’t see any elite aspects to his game and you need at least one to be a top 15 pick

You rarely go broke picking high quality left footers.

Don’t love the value when we potentially sold the farm for the pick, wish he was a little bigger, faster or more explosive but get him the ball and he should produce the goods

Always rated the kid

Seriously, what else can you do but embrace it…

Hes injured isn’t he? So maybe off HB at the end of the year?

Absolutely stoked to have Xavier here. Could have caved and gone for the shiny Tauru if he was available but I'm not sold and happy for Saonts to have him. We showed some guts and drafted for a need. Can't wait to see Xavier out there in the red and blue!

PCL but a while ago now, should be fully recovered and if we took him this early he better be a good natural runner. I think half back suits him best no matter what and he should push Salem/Howes/Bowey for the half back ball users

We've been crying out for good kicks and smart footballers, well here he is.

Get him in the gym with Tracc and let's [censored] go. Really happy with this!

I am 100% behind Xavier and hope he has a great career but I’m 100% confident Tauru is going to be a better footballer at AFL level - time will tell I was really hoping Tauru would slip to our pick so this one is a bit bitter sweet

Absolutely thrilled with this pick up. A fantastic user of the football and exactly what we need. Think of him as a mover in the Windsor mould.

Welcome Xavier. From some of the comments, you may be the first ever whipping boy yet to play a game. Prove em wrong

"A left-footed medium defender and midfielder who displayed enormous footy nous in reading the cues to win the ball before making good decisions when distributing. A neat kick and aggressive tackler, he also showed good natural speed and agility." - Kevin Sheehan

I think Xavier Lindsay is possibly still in the MFC mix at “9”… he’s elite skill and ability to play inside or outside mid might be a good compliment if we get a Langford at “5”.

Twomey write up on Lindsay is …

PD_xavier_lindsay.jpg?width=1511

Xavier Lindsay established himself as a first-rounder at the back end of the national carnival, when he picked up 30 disposals for Vic Country against Vic Metro and locked in his All-Australian guernsey. He took that form into the back end of Gippsland Power's season, storming home with a run of consistency and taking out the Morrish medal as the competition's best player. He is a left-footed midfielder who can play anywhere around the centre square – or inside it – and has a piercing kick that complements their other mix.

THIS ON THE MONEY,... BLOODY WELL DONE

Last weeks Coates League player of the week was Gippsland Power captain Xavier Lindsay.  Had 32 disposals in the midfield, with high efficiency, using his left foot deadly disposal.  He had the good mix of skill, smarts and athletic ability.  Lock him in as a future star.

Extract from post of 'Spirit of Norm Smith' yesterday:

"Lindsay is a player whose improvement areas are difficult to identify given he does so many things well, and has no glaring weaknesses. His best trait is arguably his ball use, credit to a raking left-foot kick when is often used to penetrate the attacking 50. He uses the ball well on the run, either wheeling away from stoppages or chaining possessions on the outside. Lindsay makes the right decisions and is largely effective in the short and long-range.  Lindsay's kicking is perhaps at its best when lowering his eyes. He is adept at gaining quick metres and compounding them by launching the ball long, but looks so slick when darting short passes inside, down the line, or to leading targets inside 50. Either way, he generates great momentum in attacking phases either as a connective outside runner or clearance winner.

My bold above - just what we need.

The problem of forward line "connection" must be rectified.

Too right! A very good choice has been made.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
