Interesting. Let's see how homesick the lad is if there's only WC on the table at seasons end.

"On second thought, let us not go to Camelot, for 'tis a silly place."

Feels like Jon Ralph is just condensing the usual process of making a new claim every week so that at the end of the year he can load up all the ones which turned out. Not very good for generating new click-throughs - he'll have to write a whole new article now.

Anyone else remember Rene Rivkin? Turns out he was the prototype for the modern football journalist.

As for the actual Pickett situation, I'm less and less concerned. Two-year future pick trading improves the prospects for a fair deal, and we would also be able to extract some value even from lesser picks to cash in for Kalani White.

Still hope he stays, but confident it'll work out okay for us if he feels the need to go.

Harley Reid is not 'that' good!

And they know it

Like Melksham, Pickett is and could be an invaluable asset for Melbourne, as per what he is doing now, in the chase for a skills coach (unbelievable skills) when he decides to put down the footy.

In my book all the more reason for him to stay with an initial leadership role with Melbourne's young indigenous brigade.

As they say, if one door closes another one opens.

My grandfather was fond of saying that but, then again, he was a lousy cabinetmaker.

How does it work dazzle. We just cave in?

Only two options?

I find it interesting when people only see one alternative. It's not black so it must be white, and skip straight past puce, magenta and lilac. 🙂

Just quietly.. I noticed Kozi is 'following' the Melbournefc instagram page again. Good to see. Fingers crossed for some positive vibes now that he is back into the team.

Well that's a lot better than liking posts that link him back to wherever

Can he stop doing that and knuckle down to what we're paying him good money to do?

And he needs to stop getting reported for undisciplined acts ... he's no good to us on the sidelines

He's definitely a keeper but we need him available, playing well and committed

I love Kossie. Make him Captain now I think.

From David Zita

Kysaiah Pickett has this week chosen to change managers from the SA-based Peter Rhode to WA-based Anthony Van Der Wielen. Van Der Wielen also manages Fremantle SSP signing Quinton Narkle, whose partner is the sister of Pickett's partner.

[censored] off then Koz.

Don’t stay and fight when times get tough

If Goodwin goes (one way or another) Pickett will be next out the door.

And won't be alone I imagine.

West Coast could have picks 1 and 2 this year if Allen goes. Would suit us best to request a trade there in that case.

Or perhaps we could float our future 1st plus kozzie for Harley Reid. Might be appealing to them now with us looking like a bottom 4 side.

Freo will have a late pick most likely and none of their Victorian players seem keen to come home. Maybe we can see if Murphy Reid would be interested but he's locked into their team now so doubt that happens.

It’s going to take a really good couple of years before players start considering us for trades.

Even if we could get him, Reid doesn't look good cultural fit for us...

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
