All talking about Melbourne's disappointing season and how well the pies finished the season and all the good signs. They are the reigning champs who didn't make the 8. WHAT THE HELL.

They had a lot of injuries as well at different times and that didn't help them.

Cant wait to come back in 2025 with the same forward line disconnect. Let's draft more defenders. You know it's going to happen. Hasn't changed in 3 years. Oh well here is hoping for the better.

Collingwood played tonight with zero big forward.

Repeat....ZERO. Will Hoskin Elliott was their big forward.

That's what a coaching staff with balls and ingenuity do.

Persisting with Petty to the detriment of his development and the teams development for a total output of 8 goals or something for the year is proof that our stubborn, idiotic coaching staff are going nowhere in the modern game. He should have spent the entire season back, learning from May before he finishes up. Tomlinson basically played for the opposition tonight and Hore not much better.

I just can't...seriously.

Bailey Laurie is a reasonably high pick who's had 3 years of vfl midfield invested in him. Topped all the running pre season. With our midfield decimated, he doesn't get a shot. Instead we throw our brilliant, 1v1 winning, tall/small skinny damaging half back into a role that anyone who actually understands footy can tell he has no scope for. So McVee gets the benefit of learning midfield on the job, while Laurie does not. Yeah Laurie might not be great....but he really hasn't had a shot. Certainly not the shot that McVee has had the last 3/4 games putting up shameful midfield numbers and showing he has no idea how to operate in congestion or even off balance.

The place is run by [censored]. Genuinely. They've no idea.

So does anyone else feel a modicum of thanks in that performance for Members Thank you Round?

Bloody tough year couldn’t end quick enough.

The opposite of the Death ride with wanting StKilda and the GC to win begins.

I enjoyed the death ride of Freeo last year.

Bring it on

Unless drastic changes are made, 2025 will be more of the same I fear.

Absolutely this.  2025 is most likey more of the same trash if we think we "just need a big pre-season and get the boys fit & healthy".

Without significant change to systems, game style, skills, pressure (4 quarter effort) and a big win at the draft / trade table... bottom 6 looms large.

Too many very ordinary or worse footballers on this list right now.

All line coaches and their systems need reviewing regardless of Stafford moving on

FCS pls get a great forward coach in.  We completely suck inside 50 bar Kozzy and an upcoming Turner who shows a bit.  Same with method skills in transition and bringing ball into the 50.  The mids & HBs have NFI.

Putrid and just embarrassingly amature stuff across the board for three seasons now.  Are we seriously gonna make it a fourth [censored] failure in a row here!!!!???????????

Yes, that’s giving me the irrits as well. 💩

So many positive attacks breaking down across half forward through turnovers. Tholstrup the worse offender, OK he's a kid, but plenty of others not much better, Billings for one. No idea how to fix it or where the improvement is going to come from, at least in the short term. Windsor back would help, but otherwise?

If we can't find some genuine mids, we're bottom 4.

Worst midfield in the AFL by a mile right now.

No Petracca, May, Lever, Oliver, Windsor, Sparrow. Who actually thought we’d win this game? Throw it in the bin and let’s go again next year.

Spot on. And let's reverse the situation and all the aforementioned playing at their best with the Daicos boys missing and or two others absent. Result flipped? You reckon? Most definitely.  Funny how so many see the ' jumper' and nothing more. What if 18 blokes were missing? Would the remainder be slated for an insipid performance? It's just embarrassing how injury to key players does not factor into peoples/ pundits minds.

Surely no one turns the ball over as much as we do.

Need some serious focus on skill execution over the summer.

We won 2021 off scores from stoppages, however scores from turnover is the new norm.

We’ll never become a good scores from turnover side unless we seriously improve our skill execution.

At least we played tonight so it's done & I can enjoy the weekend  & not have to hear about it.

Weird night indeed.

Our kicking skills are just appaling.

Nothing to play for, 5 or 6 keys players out. Lost too many close ones. It is what it is.

I'm buoyant about 2025. Premiers.

Wouldn't disagree, but the upside is that they're nearly all still young. We had a lot of players out there who are only just getting into double figures, and then even the slightly more experienced younger brigade playing in unfamiliar positions.

Oh so one game he was in the midfield twice another for one game and played against GC and you call that a midfield role?

Lame. Not the boost we wanted to instil some confidence in 2025 but I guess we’ll just have to do with reassurances in the offseason that we’ll fix everything that need fixing and go again next year.

Until then, it’s just a game…it’s just a game… it’s just a game… it’s just a game… it’s just a game… it’s just a game…

(I say as I rock myself to sleep after being belted by the pies, again).

A very disappointing way to end a shocking season. Lots to work on in the offseason. I think we have improvement in this list but I am far from confident that we just get straight back into finals next year. List management this offseason just has to be excellent to help get us back on the right track.

The best part was after being tanned on KB with 7 or 8 Collingwood players out we got to see something similar again.

We can reach for the injury excuse ourselves which is true, bit for the most part out ticker was putrid.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
