These players are out of contract in 2024

If they are bolded I think they will be delisted/retired.

Ben Brown

Kynan Brown

Kyah Farris-White

Marty Hore

Lachie Hunter

Luker Kentfield

Tom McDonald

Jake Melksham

Andy Moniz-Wakefield

Josh Schache

Ollie Sestan

Joel Smith

Adam Tomlinson

Will Verrall

Thoughts?

  • Demonland changed the title to Delistings 2024

Melksham to be given another year, same for TMac. Tomlinson I’d give another year as well if list spots allow.

Would have thought Kentfield would be given more than 6 months

Keep:

Sestan

Verrall

Moniz

Hore

K Brown

Melksham

The rest are done

Pretty well close. Kentfield may be given an extension.

We have pick 7 and ANB pick say early 20's, the Swans 2nd rounder and a pick in the 40's.

We should go to the draft IMO. We usually trade up and often use a future pick.

No doubt we will consider our FS Yze and Academy Mentha.

Care will be taken in using futures due to White and Ah - Mu  coming in next year.

Luker Kentfield

Geez Louise, did Luker run over your dog or steal your girlfriend or something?

You wrote him off the instant he was drafted and have been sticking the boots into him ever since.

How about we give the kid a chance?

I'd imagine both TMac and Melksham will go around again.

Tomlinson will likely seek more opportunities elsewhere after another year we begged him to stay last year because he was a 'required player'. If TMac retires, then I could see him hanging around for another year.

Retired: Brown, Hunter, Schache

Unsure old: T Mc, Tomlinson, Melk, Hore

No comment: J Smith

Unsure young: Kentfield

Not convinced: Sestan, AMW

I guess so: Verrall and K Brown

Barring trades for better talls we’ve got to keep one of the Tom’s (T Mc the obvious preference). Got to keep Melk.

I’d love to keep Marty Hore, but his body hasn’t done him any favours this year. Probably have to see how trade week pans out.

This is far from a promising group of young players. Kynan and Verrell we probably sign on. AMW and Sestan I’d be just as happy to leave them out of contract until October and see how they go tank wise with a 6 week offseason running block.

All depends if anyone else is interested, happy for him to stick around another year so we can focus on other areas with drafts/trades.

BB gone.

But not forgotten, he stood tall when it mattered. I still remember JB’S call, Benny Brown after Fritsch kicked back to back goals.

Bugger it, I’m going to watch the GF highlights now.

Plenty of chaff in that list.

Sestan is worth persisting with

So far off the list:

Smith, Gus, ANB, BB = 4

Talk of Viney going to North. Possibly all up 5.

Then others?? Hunter and Schache likely to go?

They'll keep Melky now that ANB is gone. Hid experience and leadership will be needed for the front half.

He’s also earned it off the back of his form since returning, IMO.

I'm assuming its

BBrown, Schache, Hore, KFW, Smith, Brayshaw OUT

AMW to A rookie

Sestan, Kentfield, Melksham, Verrall, KBrown re-sign as A rookies

Tomlinson, McDonald, Hunter re-sign

can see a world where Tommo looks to get out: Blues, Eagles, Roos, Crows, Lions, Pies could all be in the market and offer him a different look and a longer deal.

25 we send Petty back down back and McDonald plays the 24 Tommo role as next in

Ben Brown, Schache, Brayshaw and Joel Smith - Retired/Forced retirement

Hunter is out of contract but I'd imagine he'd get another year. Still only 29, unless people know something I don't. He's handy depth along with Billings behind Langdon and Windsor as our primary wingers. We might also play Langdon at half forward like we did earlier in the year to cover ANB, which means we'll definitely need to retain Hunter's services.

Melksham deserves to go around again and depending on Tomo if he requests a trade then we may look to keep Tmac which I hope we do. I'd like to see Adams push for selection next year.

Hore is our back up intercepter if Lever is injured, so I'd imagine he stays on.

The rookies I can't comment much on as I haven't tracked them closely this year. Sestan needs a huge preseason but I'm hopeful he stays on. AMW and Brown are developing nicely. Verrall I've heard good things and Kenterfield hasn't been given a proper crack at it yet so he deserves a full preseason to show us what he's got. KFW probably goes as I haven't heard much about him this year.

In terms of draft and trading I just don't see why we're chasing Houston. I understand he's a very good halfback but he doesn't play midfield, so he's not really a like for like replacement for Brayshaw, which I'm speculating why we are chasing him. With our current pick 7 in the draft I'd like to go after a tall mid in Josh Smillie (Tom Green) but I doubt he'd last to our selection or Harry Armstrong as a key forward who will be around our selection after losing Brown and Schache. Jefferson and Kenterfield are still question marks at this point.

No way Hunter gets another year.

Not quite sure if people have been paying attention...

Zero chance… if he does I won’t be happy

It doesn’t seem like he has shown anything, I understand it’s harsh but clubs don’t keep blokes if they are no chance of making it

In fairness to him I’ve seen nothing but vague conjecture by posters, nothing in the media. But he’s been injured almost the entire year. Ordinary when not. And now MIA without being on the injury list.

T Mac has been a first choice key defender all year and May is looking more injury prone so obviously we need to keep him around or trade in new defenders (Turner and Petty are our fwd line now)

We might keep Tommo for depth or he could retire. He has been serviceable as always so I would personally keep him

Melksham is a tough one, 33yo next month. He played a few good games and a few poor games where he was hardly noticed. Given we don't have much senior depth and he is good for the culture I would keep him on. Get him to see a therapist in the off season to keep his focus/intensity up game to game as he is our best kick and can turn games.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
