Very good coaching today.

Matty Rowell has had a very good year and was BOG last week with 10 coaches votes.  Had a few touches today but little impact.  I think it was mainly ANB who was on him.  Shut down the engine room and control the game!

Good to see some experimenting:  Fritsch up field a bit, McVee in the middle, etc

Talking of Fritsch absolutely loved his loping run, 4 bounces before dropping a pearler in Disco's arms who goaled.  And did I note how much I loved Juddy's goal!

Also, kudos to Goodwin for letting the players just play with freedom and attacking game.

They loved it!!

And so did we!!!

A 54 point win sgainst the Suns up there is a drubbing. Gold Coast are tough to play against when they are at home. The Dees looked quite fit and had a lot of run ... maybe they did load for September? 😁

Viney, Disco, Langdon, JVR, Petty, Kolt and Melksham (as sub) all had a good game. Not looking like a club imploding ...

I like the whoile of club vibe. A post match team photo with everyone on the list who was on the Gold Coast and all called in to sing the song post game.  This group of players are tight and love each other. No culture problems to see on field here. As Pert said all the off field stuff we have no control over. Go Dees

Selectors' decision to stick with Petty & Turner forward rather than bringing in Jefferson is starting to bear fruit.

Starts to give us a glimpse of what next year could look like. Big Turner fan.

The whole commentary was (as always) spoilt by Dermy! I wish he’d just shut up.                                   I’m not sure if I read it on this site or elsewhere, but someone said -  ask Dermy the time and he’ll tell you how to build a clock!

I just love these pessimistic posters, following a massive win like that. TBH you must have a miserable life.

Quite the opposite actually.  Although love coming on here and watching some of you lot get your knickers in a knot over anonymous words written on a members forum. Says more about you I think.

PS I’m really Tom Morris.

Well Perty made a statement on SEN this morning, and our leaders confirmed it inthe Gold Coast this afternoon!  We move forward together into Collingwood at the G next Friday, and then into 2025.  ❤️💙

I would persist with Turner up forward. Petty I would return to defence next season.

Surely one of Petty or Turner will have to go back though eventually? I’m a massive Turner fan and I think his attack on the football and his kicking for goal means he’s the better forward.

Screw draft picks

Culture and a winning mentality far more important

Surely we have learnt this lesson the hard way by now

and I think over the week it became abundantly clear that A grade players (eg Houston) are far more likely to come to our club if we have a winning culture and are competitive, and will not want to come if we're not.
A win over the Filth next week will help us more than a loss even if it costs a place or 2 in the draft.

Played some decent footy today. One wonders where that was on so any occasions during the year. It was the right reply to many after the last week.

Why ?

And please don’t assume Jefferson will be an option because he is a long way away from being ready and frankly could easily turn out to be another Schache or Weed

Wanting someone to be a good AFL footballer doesn’t mean it will happen - we have some depth down back and have now started to look like we have the makings of a half decent forward line - why change it

27 scoring shots to 18, 18 goals 9, +3 tackles despite also being +63 disposals, 10 goals to Turner, JVR and Petty combined, +10 CPs and +9 clearances against GC’s first choice midfield with no Oliver, no Trac, no May, Gawn injured, Pickett quiet, and the only non Queensland side to win away to GC this year and by 9 goals to boot?

What the [censored]?!?

Is it annoying that my first thought was that if we had held on last week, we’d be genuinely playing for finals next week? (Yes, it is annoying)

After the week we had, for us to do that is significant IMO. Could so easily have given up and had an eye on the off season but we did the opposite in the face of stern criticism.

There is plenty that needs improvement, but clearly kernels to work with.

Narrow loss against a good side ala GWS and Port would’ve been perfect.

I don’t care about the media.

I don’t care about weak fans and people at the club with no fortitude.

It’s nice for the players to get a win. But we had 10 of them for the year already. We don’t need to buy in to this nonsense about a crisis.

Awful take.

You don’t have to care about weak fans, but the club does.

Galvanising the supporter base, and probably the players too, is far more important than moving up 1-2 draft pick spots. In a flat and even first round to boot.

CG crumbled under the pressure of achieving........ an 11 win season.

Dermie trying to compare Disco to JMW Turner was one of the more surreal things I've heard in a footy commentary.

Eventually Petty will go back, but it may not be next year.

I'd keep May, Lever and TMac back.

Wow!

Been out all day playing local footy, I turn my phone on after the game and fist pump in front of everyone.

Congratulations Goody and to the squad. Thr amount of heat and stress this club has been under this week I thought it was going to be a tough day.

Well lads and everyone involved with the footy club. Can't wait to put my feet up and watch the replay tonight 🍻

Winning centre clearance out the front always makes a difference.

Winning clearances doesn't tell you anything innately about a game.

It's how you win them.

Which was my point earlier in the year.

No. You implied the centre clearance/clearances stat was irrelevant.

We kicked 10 goals from it today. Wining it out the back or front, doesn’t matter. It meant our defence wasn’t fighting back an avalanche of inside 50s.

Very nice win, but god knows what was going on with GC. They absolutely torched the footy all day, even in space, and could barely cover the ground. Very odd considering it was their weather.

Liked Kolt's 2nd half, and probably the best game I've seen JV7 play.

Langdon should never have cut his hair.

Obvious to say that Turner has the makings of a very good player - has more X factor than JVR whilst obviously being less reliable. He has an interesting and slightly unusual athletic profile.

No Trac up there is very odd considering May is the only other listed player who didn't go...and has a heavily pregnant partner.

Even Spargo went up on crutches. What's Trac's excuse? Stinks to high heaven Imo. Prepare yourselves.

We won a flag on the back of high picks. You never tank but it’s nice to have both. Sadly Gold Coast are just too ordinary to have beaten us.

That is about the most positive thing you have ever posted about the mfc.

Yeah, it is...

It doesn't tell you anything.

Of course being smashed in clearances is unsustainable, that wasn't the issue earlier in the year...

And how about you give it a rest. You don't read my posts or comprehend them, so what's the point?

Did you watch the game? If you are leaving, you are not playing like that.

I hope so, but it’s really hard to say.
Nibbler played pretty good as well.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
