Farewell Alex Neal-Bullen

ANB probably has had his best ever season this year, we are selling at highest value. At 28 years old I don't think he has much more room to improve and it's likely he won't be as impactful in a new club and system.

I reckon chandler will take on ANB pressure role. Will he pull it off, I am not sure.

I think Chandler is already playing that type of role.  I think we will need another player like ANB but who also adds goals.  Saw the impact of such mid sized forwards during the finals.  Must bring pressure but also hit the scoreboard.

I wonder if Woey or Bowey could get super fit and play that role.

Always thought he'd would be a good candidate to do ANBs role. Upgrade on marking ability, especially overhead, has good pace and probably would kick few more goals. Not sure he has the same tank as ANB...yet, but he loves the nitty gritty stuff and likes tackling and scrapping around to win the ball.

AMW more suited.  Gets much more of the ball and more of an in and under player.  Both got pace.

Yeah, the reason clubs in the Crom position do this is because we essentially have no choice in the matter.

We kinda do, as he's still contracted to us next year

Chandlers tackling was elite this year according to stats.

Chandler doesn't have the fitness. Though almost no-one has ANB's fitness and ability to run all day.

Understand the criticisms of ANB's onfield shortcomings, but I think people are underestimating what he brings both onfield and off as a leader. Will be missed at a time when leadership is something we're crying out for post-Gus and given the Oliver/Trac/Smith issues. Thank god Melksham did enough to earn himself another year.

You have to treat the McAdam and Neale-Bullen deals separately.  They're not related, even though I understand the parallels.

For me, pick 25 for Neale-Bullen is an excellent outcome.  I reckon he's worth a late 30s pick.  But, ultimately, he's worth what someone will pay.

I accept his leadership qualities are valuable, but I don't overly rate the footballer.  A decent role player, but they're a dime a dozen.  Too much of a fumbler with many limitations.

In a deep draft this is a very good pick.

You won't be surprised I differ in my assessment of nibblas ability - he finished sixth in the bluey last year, and I'm guessing will be top 5, perhaps even top 3 this year.

And if the pies want a first rounder for noble, late 30s for nibbla is way overs.

Be that at as it may, I completely agree with you he's worth what the market says he's worth. Simple as that.

If that's pick 25 then so be it (by the by, in a vacuum, as highly as I rate nibbla, I would peg him at 20-25, so 25 is pretty fair).

It's the same with trading players into the club, both in terms of what draft pick we're prepared to give up and what salary we offer.

Which is why I find the annual debate about the 'worth' of players all a bit silly.

Can forgotten man Spargo come in and fill the role?

Unless we can replace his running power and football nous he's going to leave a considerable hole in how we play. In saying that I think pick 25 in a deep draft is a pretty fair result.

3-ish years on a 5 hundred-ish contract would be end of 2nd round is my guess so early 40s

Yep, I reckon he can.

I think Spargo may surprise a few next year provided his achilles heel is no longer his achilles heel.

We missed his entries inside 50 this season.

Agreed, but it was his calf wasn't it?

It was calf adjacent.

ANB is 28.

Wrong I believe it’s already No 25 as per Shane Mac and a complete swap.

Not wrong, I was giving his age not the pick we are getting.

Not directly related to the ANB trade, but would the now delisted McHenry be worth the club looking at as a replacement for ANB?

  • PREVIEW: Brisbane

They really had me fooled when I picked them with great confidence to beat the Bombers at Gather Round last week. I should have recognised that nothing is more quintessentially Melbourne than defeating the undefeated early premiership favourite one week and losing to a winless cellar dweller on its way to establishing a record losing streak the next.
