Lever out marked by Narkle

endless fwd entries not to advantage but let’s focus on a whipping boy ffs

he’s not the reason we list

we lost because we lacked composure with ball in hand including Mcvee who is generally good

Up until that point it was probably one of Billings' better games for us.

From the "if my Aunt had wheels she'd be a wagon" file - but just saw the pic of May in the sponsored players frame on this page - with him out there we win.  We win a game against a side with everything to play for - we win a game that pundits and folk on this page had us losing by between 7 goals and 70 points.

At the end of the day we get experience into some young players, a better look at the list, and  something to avenge next time we play this lot (who know they just got over the line at the ground they need to own if they're going to do anything in September*).

*they're not.

Spare a thought for those of us living in Europe. Can't even book a local ski-trip.

I think we'll be a bloody good side next year

People demanding that we "play the kids" can't now turn on them when they stuff up or are outclassed.

We truly are the turn-over kings.

Also, Fritsch actually should have been selfish with that goal opportunity. Tholstrup was never kicking that.

The irony... It wasn't long ago he got chipped for not making that pass.

Far too close in the run-up to the man on the mark, kicking way to high and thus, not straight through the ball ... how many times have we seen this in our 'set shots'? It totally minimises our alleged goal-kicking practices.

A few mistakes in the final three minutes was the difference.

Not mistakes… it was a complete lack of effort in the last minute or so, that allowed Port to kick it amongst themselves, when we should have been pressuring them!  I suggest people take a look at the last minute of the Suns v Essendon match.

Thought even Salem was turning the ball over a lot tonight , blind handballs and kicks round corners with out looking.

Max and Kozzy were huge, but I thought we played dumb footy in that last quarter.

We only needed 1 goal , but kept kicking to packs and missing handball targets.

Having said that , we are severely undermanned and have lost to top 8 sides like Brisbane, Carlton and Port by less than a kick.

Win those and we are top 4 , what a crazy year.

Kolt actually could have just hand ball it to Picket? Or was it Turner? That was easier than his set shot.

Could have kicked around the corner too, end of the day he’s a kid my whole point is people focussing on individual things when there were so many turnovers that killed our momentum.

overall happy with effort and the fact the season is done but we still have a crack. Very different club from the Schwab days

Goodness me Clayton was super super poor tonight. Just a lost & unfit player right now… & who would ever had thought it would’ve come to this after season 21’

He was just about the best player in the game 2 years back

Yeah that’s still a sore point.

BUT

Bombers. Being beaten after the siren and almost certainly no finals. Small price to pay I guess for a winning moment 🤣

No, you just have mountains in all directions only a short plane ride away 😝

Agree on Salem, but he was not alone in the kick around the corner in a panic without looking. Had 10-12 mates. Also our handballs hit the target less than 40%of the time. It was U/10 type footy at times

Billings should never get another game! Just awful!

It was actually his best ever game. He missed one goal. Big deal. I bet you were at home on the couch and not at the game.

How did the Dees go tonight . . . anyone watch the game? I ended up watching a fairly ordinary game of rugby union instead. High scoring game actually - shed-load of forward passes missed by the ref though.

Billings bye bye

who ever keeps selecting him bye bye

Stafford bye bye

This was his best game for us. There were several who contributed less than Billings.

To sub Van Rooyen is a sackable offense

Was he injured. That’s what I assumed

As the large majority have already stated, we need a clean out and some fresh faces in the coaches box and on the field.

The fact we couldn’t hit the side of a barn and brick ourselves under pressure is a huge concern.

Time to make some hard calls on some favourite sons including TMac and Oliver as well as move on Stafford and Choco plus others.

We need an on-field identity change rather than relying on contested ball, as currently we are becoming a Ross Lyon style of dour football which is fecking horrible to watch.

We had a good crack all game, confidence is low and therefore plays that require dare aren’t coming off but I leave the G not that unhappy…plenty to work with in 2025

It has tonight been decided that a review will be undertaken post season to ensure we have the staff most capable of maximising the talent within the club. It is believed there is a lot of player support behind the current regime but there are others associated with the club who believe changes are neccesary.

This was a great effort by the Demons. And we very nearly won. It shows us there is hope for next year. Stop being a bunch of ninnies!

The Billings haters need to open their eyes. He had 23 disposals with 7 marks and 3 tackles. Our 4th highest on the AFL fantasy points… He clearly isn’t the reason we lost!

And when you have some patience, you get guys like Mac Andrew!

Kolt will be OK 😀

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

  • CASEY: Sandringham

The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.
