Except that’s NOT what I asked.

I asked a poster named SFebes what he meant by His selections fuel poor culture issues.

It’s not that I didn’t like the answers I was given, it’s that I don’t believe my question AS I ASKED IT was answered. I expect an answer from the poster who said it might be more relevant.

It's pretty obvious that players in form being dropped or in good form at Casey and not getting selected can lead to cultural issues.

Correct, well known, too many favoured! result?? alienation, selfishness and get stuffed, mentality!

Which I have never witnessed at any of our home games over the last nine years. Sometimes the other team is just to good for us, when I look at other teams there are at least 6-7 sides that actually outclass us and we need everything going our way to beat them especially kicking straight. Since round 6 we have been getting our share of inside 50’s just not making the most of them.

Yes indeed. It goes to mood, individual and group. Goes to satisfaction or frustration/ disappointment/ grievance. Can unsettle player(s) effectiveness which goes to results. Poor results can give birth to buy-in or opt-out. We're dealing with egos. Just about every AFL player wants to play well and be allowed to do so. Effort and lack of reward especially if sensing bias is not a recipe for happiness.

It also leads to standards slipping when players get games on reputation instead of performance.

I actually think its very unlikely an incoming CEO and President will sack a coach with 1 year to run on a contract. I couldn't imagine thats the kind of publicity they would want to start the Tenure with - would be a PR disaster.

Manageable though

How’d the PR going to be after a flag, 2 straight sets then 3 years bottom 6?

Pretty bad I imagine

The members might return if we overhaul the list and start being competitive again

There's an assumption that the drop-off in members is entirely Goodwin related

In my view it's because the players couldn't give a yelp

****house football, kicking and effort in some cases

Whether the cause is player coach or both, the outcome it clear?

Yes but those who are pointing at the membership drop-off are apportioning the blame on Goodwin alone

Not a word about the poor efforts from the players. And that includes the players cosying up to the Collingwood players not long after Gus was king hit and forced to retire

The players look like they have given up. Apart from Gawn, all our better players have been bog average

Still, the pay cheques keep coming don't they?

ALL THAT COMES BACK TO THE HEAD COACH…..

You asked how lack of selection integrity could impact culture and then didn't like the answer you were given. Culture is not just about player happiness and retention, it's also about success. Lack of selection integrity is the start of standards slipping, accountability etc

Culture is the driver of performance, we can have players happy to be at the club, happy to be on the list, mates with the coach and feeling supported and failing to push themselves and performing like rubbish on gameday. Would you consider that a good culture?

This “lack of selection integrity” thing, you do know it’s something some grumpy Dees fans made up? They have no idea as to the integrity or otherwise of our selection process.

Lots of mouths yapping and not many neurons snapping on this thread.

Guesses, projections, imaginations and fantasies making up a growing portion of the BS on this thread.

Most (if not all) of our onballers are avoiding contact and the tell-tale signs are the rushed kicks forward

What sort of an example is that showing to the new younger players? The thinking would be that why should players put their bodies on the line if they're teammates won't do it

Our forwards refuse to play in front and are constantly looking for the cheap one out the back

That's why Goodwin keeps dropping JVR, Fritsch, AJ, Jeffo etc etc. Melksham as well at least once this year

We've got a much bigger player personnel issue than a coaching issue

Edited by Macca

Petracca, Oliver & Viney not being able to adapt to playing a modern style just about sums things up

What should have happened with these 3 is they get told about the new game plan once ... and then all 3 get on with the new plan without having to be told again

But the problem is that our good players lack football IQ. By contrast, players such as Pendlebury, Sidebottom, Dangerfield, Neale & McCluggage can do on-field coaching and therefore the work of the coach

The Lever/May generalship down back is no more as well. Our team within the team (the defence) just isn't what it was

Forget the forward line, that area for us is a shambles

Midfield? Gawn is no longer the ruck general he once was. Still a top player but he's on the decline

Our midfielders just waste their disposals and avoid contact. Once stellar, now bog ordinary

The figures talked about in the link below (The $1.5Million - $2Million payout for Goodwin) does not include the 75% luxury tax which would be applied up to $1Million for exceeding the soft cap limit (currently $7.7Million)

And most, if not all the clubs spend close to 100% of their soft cap

Interested to know if you trust this club to find someone better than Goodwin?

No I don't but ya gotta start somewhere and the first thing is to canvass widely get an agreement and then sack the incumbent! Anyone who STILL can't see that he needs to go is delusional. If it costs a million, so be it!

The evidence suggests otherwise

Of course it does. 😵‍💫

Please paint me a picture Jnr? Of your understanding of the logic, thinking, rationale and discussions of the MFC Football department that inform its selection decisions, then overlay your argument that this process “lacks integrity”..?

The fact you don’t understand the FD’s selection logic doesn’t equate to a lack of integrity, only that you’re unaware of what it is.

But sure, if you and your buds say it often enough and loud enough it must be real… 🥱

Goodwin has actually held up his end of the bargain, we are moving the ball well including into the 50. Our goal kicking is 100% our issue and it starts with players like Petracca and Kozzie. We disrespect early shots on goal and spreads throughout the game.

Another decision by Roffey and Pert biting us in the backside.

Roffey was supposed to deliver on the home base. MIA.

Btw, she was also in charge of the Western United New facilities in Truganina. Have a look at how that project went.

Perhaps a buyout of his contract can be negotiated. Ask AFL if we can spread the cost over say 5 years for soft cap.

We can't have another summer of Goody. No one's gonna want to rock up for this same [censored] different week performances. Including the fans.

We have won 6 of our last 22 games.

It's is hard to fathom really, and unacceptable.

That’s disgusting.

MFC said at the start of the season we are expecting to play finals this year and yet ANOTHER BOTTOM 4 FINISH FFS.

We have had the same problems for several seasons.

Goodwins time is up. Change is needed THIS YEAR not next season.

Surely he can now take your man Jefferson with him. Christ Picket, his game today was worse than bad. Zero impact.

Studying some of the Pies game tonite.

1.System

Coach wouldn’t get a gig

2.Personnel

Kozi, Bowery, Gawn and Disco would get a game, that’s about it.

3.Ball Movement.

Petracca, Oliver and Viney wouldn't be on the list.

This the team we very nearly beat just a few weeks ago?

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
