I'd definitely do this, invest in the kids, right now is the best time to do this. Give them a taste and make them hungry for next year.

Port just put down a massive marker - now they will come at us hard to keep their finals run in good shape.  Lots to cover off if we are going to be competitive, but we must have our pressure rating over 190 average.  Going to be a tough night at the G.

I’d say more like 70% of games and even in others there’s rotations, I just think he drifts a little at half back. Defensive positioning and attacking work rate both still developing.

I’d train him for both but if Rivers builds his tank he’s the defender who moves permanently on ball first. 

Maybe there’s some benefit to a look at him now but I still think he’s learning by the week how to do more at half back.

I'm not against Melksham playing next year, but ultimately, I think we need three talls or at least three that can play tall. IMO, it's JVR, Turner with Jefferson, Melksham and McAdam sharing that other spot.

It'd be great getting a KPF like Waterman, but I'd much prefer to strengthen the midfield and back in the KPPs we have.

Couldn't agree more   The Dogs have 5 guys around that 200cm or more and we had one who is our ruckman.  AMW was taking Ugle Hagen at times??? and although he did well it was a ridiculous match up.  I wish KC could tell us why they won't try Verrall (our only other 200cm plus player) in a key position.   Its a waste of time for him getting 5 hit outs and 3 or 4 possessions.   He's only going to learn in a set position where he can pick up multiple possessions and learn to intercept marks.

Unless Verrall's grown, I don't think we have another 200cm+ player other than KFW. I think he's 198 or 199cm which may be splitting hairs but IMO, Verrall's not particularly mobile for his height. He seems to lumber around a lot so unless he becomes more agile/mobile, he's probably not a KPP.

In 2022 April l went to Adelaide and saw us beat Port.

you're right  He's 199   Definitely not tall enough for a ruckman.

I admit, I'd love to be able to manage May a little more, even Lever, so that come the pointy end, they're fit and firing. But it may not be possible.

In my mind forward line set up needs to change and Trac needs to play their around 70% JVR obviously becomes the big dog and Petty, May  Lever are all down back.

We are so much more dangerous with Trac fwd and a steady strong defensive set up is part of our DNA. I think Rivers becomes a regular mid and Oliver with a full pre season I expect should see him get back to a trimmer version of himself which with his natural gifts will only benefit him.

We definitely need some mids and wouldn’t mind finding a pinch hitting ruck fwd with a seasoned body for a year or so

So in that set up JVR isn't playing 2nd ruck, the pinch hitting season ruck/forward is?

I know he's a bit soft, but a Chol type would have been handy...

Do you really think Tracc needs to play forward?  We need stars in the midfield.  And with his spleen injury and the way we bomb it into our forward line, it would be the last place he would want to be.

Never? TMac would have won his fair share of one-on-one battles over his 200+ game career! He has been a great servant of the club. Was an absolute forward beast in 2018. Pretty sure he would have won the majority of his one-on-one battles then. And he really gave it a crack this year as a 3rd tall defender, considering he is at the end of his career and all the injuries he has had to deal with over the last few years.

But yes, his last 2 games have been horrible and potentially career ending.
