I'll be there on Saturday night. I'll make sure to turn the lights off on my way out.

This is the crux of it. The AFL doesn’t do anything to entice people to games. In fact, they couldn’t make attending a match less attractive if they tried.

I’m one of the core of nuffs and I don’t get upset if others don’t attend, as long as I can attend. I certainly wouldn’t try to shame anyone into attending, I especially wouldn’t start a thread in which to do so.

BUT…

I sincerely wish we could pull bigger crowds for one reason, that being that the players love hearing supporters, the louder the better. This is the thing we hear most often.

Darcy Moore calls the Magpie Army their 19th man and I totally get that. Standing out in the middle of the ‘G when their players run out is mind blowing. It’s not the same as hearing it from the stands. It’s an otherworldly sound. It’s no wonder their players lap it up.

Our players realistically can’t expect to hear that overwhelming level of noise from our fans. But they hear it in support of the opposition and it’s understandable that they’d love to hear it for them.

One thing I would like to acknowledge is that the Demon Army is second to none when it comes to cheer squads.

As passionate and loud as any.

And on top of that you guys always bring all the 'gear', even on most interstate games.

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Kudos Demon Army.

I’m so not looking for praise, but thank you all the same.

Incidentally, we bring the gear to every interstate match, only we don’t call it the ‘gear’ coz, ya know, sniffer dogs 😝

I’ll have what you’re having WCW. 🤩

I always go unless I am on the verge of death from the flu or something, so I will be there Sat night - last week just sat there with that bemused look on my face, not a lot to cheer about so hoping its a little better than that at least!

Maybe you are just a barracker, good for you I’m not classifying you at all, I’m stating a fact that we have average attendance overall  and it drops right off in the miserable months of winter

You obviously don’t listen to the radio or watch TV if you don’t think everyone is laughing at us

Only crazy people listen to the afl media. They don’t deal in truth.

Life is more complicated than this. Sometimes you can't make it for all sorts of reasons or you don't live in the country or the state.

The problem I have is probably with the 5-10k or so that would normally attend that game in the past 3-4 years.

They are the bandwagon supporters that give most of us a bad name.

I was embarrassed by the crowd the other night and have copped it this week from mates that support Carlton and Essendon.

We have a really good conversion of supporters to attendees and members, but like all clubs, we have some softies.

You dont have to let Essendon or Carlton supporters make you feel bad. They go for teams that haven’t achieved anything

Don't forget to put the key under the mat too. Last home game it was my turn and I nearly forgot.

16k at a Saturday Prime Time Home game.

I was there. If you weren’t whats your excuse? Want other clubs to respect us and stop saying we don’t turn up? Get off your [censored] and stick fat!

That is an inappropriate question.  I am paying the club; they are not paying me.  If you think that I am an embarassment .  I will cancel the automatic renewal after 28 years.  I will be guided by your answer.

Another Sat night game?

*sighs* argh yeah, I'll be there..

We’ve been so bad this year we won’t get many nights in the 2025 draw. Sunday 4:40pm here we come!

Thank you!  We do have one of the largest cheer squads in the league, even bigger than Collingwood's, so we know when to bring it.  We also do have a regular group that does go to interstate games, and we enjoy a positive relationship with interstate supporter groups such as Western Demons, Queensland Demons and NSW Demons, who bolster our numbers on interstate trips.  I've been to all but only 3 games this year, I couldn't go to the opening round, the Easter Saturday game or Alice Springs, and I won't be able to go to Gold Coast, but I have been to the other interstate games and all Melbourne games, all of them with the Dee Army, and wouldn't have it any other way.  Best bunch of people in the AFL!

This game has ugly written all over it.

Could not get a better night for footy and the G is empty.

Reckon more seagulls than supporters here tonight

Easily.

I know people will argue that you have to support the club no matter what, but we play the most boring style of footy in the AFL, and if there’s no finals aspirations, what’s the incentive for supporters?

If we have another down year next year with Goody still pushing the same brand of footy, expect even lower crowds.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
