This is going to really bite us in the future. I believe at best now we may get a second rounder and when Oliver's money really spikes which is tied to TPP increases in the future, we are going to be paying close to $1m of his salary at the cats.

If we ever put a contract longer than 1 week to a player in the future, I will spew up!!

I also really question how Goodwin can continue. All reports are that is saying that they can control Clayton and get best out of him but the higher ups are saying no you can't, we have to get him out. If a board does not think a coach can get the best out of his players when why is that coach still there?

Geelong is a tax funded mafia then.

I wouldn't go that far. I will say that Frank had no option but to broker deals lest he be found 'sleeping with the fishes'.

Coach must know where the bodies are buried.

You might be right, but equally you don't know if the division over Clarry will continue. You have many in the club, including the coach and captain who want him to stay. If that decision is taken out of their hands, how will that impact other areas?

Goody would be feeling almost untenable in his role, if the CEO/Board is telling him that they don't trust that he can get Oliver back on track.

Jaded, not sure that may be the case with Goody. Remember who it was that made the decision to get rid of our last two “troublemakers” - Hogan and Watts. By all reports Goody terminated them because they were a bad / disruptive influence on the team. If Clarrie has fallen off the wagon again, then Goody may well be heartbroken but, based on past actions, he is able to make the hard calls himself - and most likely has, despite what has been “reported”.

What is being reported is correct. Goody does not want Clarry traded. Whether you believe that or not, is your choice.

Let's also remember that Hogan = pick 6 = May. It was a net win for the club, which is entirely different to what we will get back for Clarry.

Goodwin is very happy to make the tough decisions, on that you are completely right.  The fact he does not categorically want to move Clarry on, and if he did, there would not be a meeting today to discuss the trade, it would have been signed off already, and Richo would not have released a statement 48 hours ago saying Clarry is a required player, tells you that he doesn't think Clarry deserves the treatment Hogan and Watts did. Rightly or wrongly.

I don’t think we could sell the a 2nd rounder as a trade for Oliver, to the Dees members

No way they let him go, best player for decades at the club all behavior not withstanding, still can't just let him go for peanuts.  Melbourne members would be livid, surely things can't be that bad here.

This club seems to have stopped caring about selling itself to members back in 2022.

They have treated the supporters with such a level of contempt, and a total lack of respect.

Best culture in 40 years, says the man who is now flogging off a star player for some stale chips, to save our culture.

The only way that I would accept the rubbish that we will get for him would be if the club actually grew a backbone and specifically came out and basically gave a list of reasons why he has to be out. It does not have to be exact but list things like missing specific behaviour related goals/KPIs etc etc. Basically trash the player so that we as members say "ok, he is terrible, we need to get rid of him..."

I know the club wouldn't do it but the way we just seem to roll over and accept things like being told we are not a big enough/relevant enough club (Trac) or that we can't handle players with too many issues (Oliver) really gets on my nerves and makes my dream of us being a powerful/successful club even more of nothing but a dream.

So apparently there's behaviour issues with him at the brownlow, hello blind Freddie could see that coming, he shouldn't have been invited & apparently he's missed medical appointments  to.

Honestly he had a terrible off season last year & 12 months later he doesn't seem to have learnt his lesson.

Maybe.. just maybe, this actually comes back on the Individual for once and not the club.

Oliver is a bloody 27 year old grown adult. For once how about he takes responsibilities his own actions.

The club literally had to move Oliver in with the Gawn family last year because of his off field issues. Sums it all up.

The footy club have seriously thrown every ounce of support and bended over backwards for him to try and keep him on the narrow straight. I'm comfortable if the club wish to trade him. They've done everything they can.

Geelong are not certainty to fix him. Jack Steven and Mitch Clark come to mind? Bailey Smith and Clayton Oliver in the one room on a Saturday night.. good luck.

That's all well and good but who at the club is accountable for the list management decision to sign him up long term on 1.3m/year and putting us in a salary cap hole? These issues didn't just bubble up in the last 12 months. If we dump Oliver and eat a huge chunk of his salary then Tim Lamb at the very least and likely the board if they signed off on the contract are in untenable positions.

No-one at the club wants any accountability, it's always someone else's fault.

Just a reminder that this club won a grand final followed by 2 x top 4 finishes and a win/loss record of 75%…

Most ‘Other clubs’ haven't come close to this

Yeah we also won 5 flags in 6 years, times change. Living in the past has never served this club well.

Thanks for the many memories Claz.

Praying those in charge know what they're doing (not confident).

In fairness to the club they never predicted a major hamstring injury that has potentially altered his game and major off field issues.

Just like any marriage, you can't predict the future unfortunately.

so....all of Trac, Pickett and Oliver likely leaving this year or next. Followed in the coming years by the retirement of big Max and JV. And the possibility that Caufield turns into nothing. Its like a welcome back to 2013....re remembering  the foot of the ladder and being the brunt of the media and other supporters jokes. We had a nice short holiday at the top . but this is a fall thats as  dizzying in its speed and drama as was winning the flag in 21.

On the flip side. We did  win that flag....and for a 50 plus year supporter that is no small thing. Its a  piece of joy I never thought Id get.  I for one  will continue to buy memberships and support the club as fiercely, if not more than, I always have ...and hope we may re organise in some way to make our rise faster than it was back then.

I, too, have been thinking about this for some time; to my mind, Oliver is not alone in this argy-bargy that has been ongoing since the Flag. We have waved goodbye to several 'sure things' under this tutelage and there have surely been some stoics in the team that have shown certain reluctancies onfield and in applied endeavours. We urgently need an independent Club review and to ignite a new motivator, sweeping or brushing-up our team with a new broom, lock, stock and barrel. We are approaching a condition and performance-level of 'stale'. The Ooze no doubt saw it as a mountain too steep to climb.

    TRAINING: Wednesday 19th February 2025

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
