Totally agree.

All year we were told how many boxes he was ticking.

So apparently he was ticking them all right up until the last minute.

Or we were fed bs

Could be as simple as at a function Pert is asked is Clarry gettable and he might have said for the right price most players are.

Then that spreads to we are shopping him.

You really think Clarry and his management go to meet with Geelong based off this?
Clarry is managed by the Connor group, as is Trac. If there’s one thing we’ve learnt, is that this management group isn’t shopping you around and setting up meetings with other clubs, unless all parties are in agreement that a trade is on the table.

I was answering as to how it got out into the media etc.

Listening to snippets of that podcast Clarry comes across as quite immature - the way he defends or explains our culture as a non-issue because ‘we all have a laugh and eat lunch together’.

Maybe the higher-ups have just had enough of dealing with all the issues and still don’t see this young man really growing and maturing into what they thought he could become. Maybe they think it’s time to cut their losses and move forward.

Dont think wall Street will be worried about Oliver any time soon.

Us!!! Be issue the media have already driven the narrative we’re ‘shopping him around’ therefore he’s worth nothing, well nothing close to what he’s actually worth and thus any trade would be CRIMINAL cus it’d be a future first, for an all time great level player all cus we don’t want the attention and extra care Clazz brings which even if u true is now the narrative!

Again, this is a case of the media driving the narrative to where we are now forced to either accept a poor trade or keep him and either way our list and culture are ultimately what suffers! Whereas if player driven, we could drive a herd bargain and ask for 2 top 15 picks — but media have ensured that the perception now is that the CLUB is driving this even if untrue..

if GP DID mention to few clubs ‘Claz is up for right deal’ so WHAT — it should never get out but clubs make sure it does cus (ie cats) if they leak it our market position is undercut and we become snookered!

Yeah but it appears that the cats are also looking to sell him a farm. 😝

I want Pert gone, but there's no way Pert is acting on his own here.

Sure, the FD may not be for it, but what about our board? If you're shopping around one of your highest paid players without board approval, you may as well tender your resignation.

People need to be a little bit smarter about this.

And if the board is shopping around players the FD wants to keep then what?

If so, then this IS a circus and Pert should know better as CEO and given his marching orders.

The Age has just dropped that Clarry met Rhys Stanley and Tom Stewart at Stanley's farm yesrterday arvo after meeting Hocking etc.

Leaked by people close to Clarry but not to be identifed as they had no authority to speak on the record.

Spare me!

He's gone, in his own mind anyway, and this now can't be walked back.

Move Clarry on, sadly.

I don't want to lose Clayton Oliver.

In fact, I will be devastated if he leaves the Demons.

But if we are forced to trade him then we need to get 2 first round draft picks. We should not accept anything less for a champion player.

Clubs courting in contract players has got hairs all over it.

If a contracted player requests a trade the motion should be the club will seek to find a trade that meets or exceeds the players existing contract and satisfies the clubs on field objectives.

Any other requests by a player, eg. state/team etc. should be considered 'nice to haves', nothing more.

If a player wishes to get to a specific club, they can until they're OOC or do the work to ensure the preferred club can satisfy the club that you're contracted too and is paying you $25-$100k per month right now.

Boy is this the silly season.

After the season we had everyone is tradeable if the price is right.  I mean if Roos contemplated trading Jude Bolton, even if only for a nano second, surely we could do the same with Clarry.

Not sure why Pert is running with it though.

There are literally hundreds of ways a story like this can get out.

I found out a few days before the Grand Final that Luke Parker had committed to joining the Roos. My source was a mate who's golfing buddy was a junior coach of Parker. Parker is close friends with his son. My mate has never met Parker or had anything to do with the Swans or Roos, but that's how easy it is for football stories to get out.

So people pointing the finger at the club or Pert for leaking, are naive to the realties of football clubs.

My issue with the Clarry situation:

Geelong aren't courting him if they think he's cooked. They clearly believe, with the right support around him, he can return to at least 90-95% of the player he was, which is still one of the best in the comp.

Which means either a) we don't or b) we won't or can't put that same support around him. If it's a, fair enough. But it sounds more like b. And I have no interest in watching him get back to his best anywhere but Melbourne, simply because we won't put any more time or effort into it.

We don't go close to winning the flag without a fit and firing midfield, and a fit Clarry is still a key part of that. No draftee, short of a Daicos or Reid type (of which Ashcroft is the only one this year), will help fill that void. If we trade Clarry, we might as well admit we've given up on the next 2-3 years, which means on May, Gawn, Viney and probably Trac's time, and get started on a full rebuild.

It's time for the club to shut up, get its [censored] together (including at board and executive level) and knuckle down for a huge preseason.

The luckless Salem suffered a hamstring injury against the Lions early in the season and, after missing a number of games, he was never at his best. He was also inconvenienced by minor niggles later in the season. This was a blow for the club that sorely needed him to fill gaps in the midfield at times as well as to do his best work in defence. The move of “Disco” to a key forward post looks like bearing fruit. Turner has good hands, moves well and appears to be learning the forward craft well. Will be an interesting watch in 2025. Lack of preparation after a problematic preseason prevented Oliver from reaching the high standards set before last year’s hamstring woes. He carried injury right through the back half of the season and was controversially involved in a potential move during the trade period that was ultimately shut down by the club. BLOODY BLUES by Meggs

The conclusion to Narrm’s home and away season was the inevitable let down by the bloody Blues  who meekly capitulated to the Bombers.   The 2024 season fixture handicapped the Demons chances from the get-go with Port Adelaide, Brisbane and Essendon advantaged with enough gimme games to ensure a tough road to the finals, especially after a slew of early season injuries to star players cost wins and percentage.     As we strode confidently through the gates of Prin

Melbourne’s most important player who dominated the first half of the season until his untimely injury in the Kings Birthday clash put an end to his season. At the time, he was on his way to many personal honours and the club in strong finals contention. When the season did end for Melbourne and Petracca was slowly recovering, he was engulfed in controversy about a possible move of clubs amid claims about his treatment by the club in the immediate aftermath of his injury.
