Sparrow - Twenty Pressure Acts

The highest were ANB and Chandler with 22 (not exactly ā€œlimited involvementā€), but Sparrow is consistently high in this stat. I think Goodwin has him playing a pretty unglamorous role this year, and I’m sure the coaches aren’t as down on him as a few posters have been lately.Ā

Oh and also worth mentioning, the other player in the top four for pressure acts was Harrison Petty, also with 20.Ā

Salem - contest work underrated

Put his body on the line repeatedly tonight.

Yes he didn’t star but did what was needed. Ā Improvement still to be seen and he has a key role over the next 6 games.Ā

They should give him a game next week, maybe rest Moniz-Wakefled.

Why in the world would AMW need a ā€œrestā€? Ā He ain’t Joe Biden 😓

Thanks Mel. Ā These pressure acts are mostly unseen by the fans at the ground - many of whom still want ā€œkick it longā€ - but are incredibly important in the structure of the team.

Looking forward to binman’s stats analysis tonight.Ā

Surprised when he was ā€˜rested’ during the final qt Saturday night. Certainly was fully invested in the team performance prior to that. May not have the finesse of Salem or Bowey but his combative, take no prisoners attitude has been noticed. Mentioned in dispatches by the Channel 7 commentary and didn’t take a backward step in the contretemps V Jake Stringer.

My 3 bobs worth

Just want to say how important it was that Max was out and i don't know why?

It seems like sacrifice acts &Ā  pressure acts are back the last 2 weeks.Ā  Very enjoyable

Joe Biden - I think he plays for the Cats.

As much as I don't like umpire 22, I thank the lord he's no Dean Margetts.

Pontius Pilate would do a better job 'crucified' Tim Smith.

Good assessment JB.

I thought Oliver was very quiet in the first half and on the bench longer than he should have been.

But he can alive as Oliver of old in the second and it was heart warming tuff.

He Langers, Melksham and Nibbler were back to their sublime best.

Rivers and kozzie in the guts too were fantastic.

I've argued all year our midfield has been down on impact this year but it seems to have turned the corner.

Despite having no ruck we won the clearances in the wet when we have lost a lot of games on these conditions.

As mentioned numerous times Melksham in or fwd line makes it go from average to dynamic.

He is a super hard matchup for others and we now have an easy 100 point kickingĀ  fwd line.

Apart from his sliding smart goal to a vacant goal square, his kick to Turner was pinpoint accurate such that Disco didn't have to break stride.

Can't wait until Max is back and Jvr gets to play fwd with the others and not so much ruck work.

As good as Kozzie is in the middle I'd like him fwd as much as we can spare him.

  • PREVIEW: North Melbourne

Can you believe it? After a long period of years over which Melbourne has dominated in matches against North Melbourne, the Demons are looking down the barrel at two defeats at the hands of the Kangaroos in the same season. And if that eventuates, it will come hot on the heels of an identical result against the Gold Coast Suns. How have the might fallen? There is a slight difference in that North Melbourne are not yet in the same place as Gold Coast. Like Melbourne, they are currently situated in the lower half of the ladder and though they did achieve a significant upset when the teams met earlier in the season, their subsequent form has been equally unimpressive and inconsistent.Ā

  • REPORT: Adelaide

The atmosphere at the Melbourne Football Club at the beginning of the season was aspirational following an injury-plagued year in 2024. Coach Simon Goodwin had lofty expectations with the return of key players, the anticipated improvement from a maturing group with a few years of experience under their belts, and some exceptional young talent also joining the ranks. All of that went by the wayside as the team failed to click into action early on. It rallied briefly with a new strategy but has fallen again with five more Ā consecutive defeats.Ā

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.

  • PREGAME: Rd 18 vs North Melbourne

After four weeks on the road the Demons make their long awaited return to the MCG next Sunday to play in a classic late season dead rubber against the North Melbourne Kangaroos. Who comes in and who comes out?

  • POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs Adelaide

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.
