If you haven't watched this mini doco of Kozzie going home don't miss it.

It was amazing to watch Clarrie, Goodie and Shane McAdam enjoy the  moments in Kozzie's country. It is very emotional and gives a great hindsight into our Kozzie's life before football and the influence of family has had. It was also wonderful to see the joy and inclusion that Clarrie had with the community. What a great idea to include Clarrie on the trip. He really connected with everyone. Congratulations to the Club. A great initiative.

    It’s heartwarming to see where and how Kozzie was raised by his very close, very loving family, and then to see the beautiful reunion.

    What a very special reminder of what a humble past  Kozzie came from, and what he and his caring extended family and community have achieved, to whom we owe so much thanks.

    And great to take Goody, Clarrie and Shane to share the whole experience.

    PS - at first glance my MFCSS immediately kicked in and I thought that Kozzie was leaving us 😮

    That is a beautiful story and just another one of those things this club does so well. We seem to do a lot right for a club with a suspect culture. For those critics of Clarry, look at how invested he is in this club and how we look after our own, we don't try to offload them.

    It's hard to believe that not that long ago our indigenous brothers could go into town after 6 pm. 

    I congratulate the club for putting this together. I am overjoyed to see how happy Kozzie is and Clarry as well.

    To the critics and the press who continually look for an angle to bring this club down all I can say is you are wrong. This playing group are as tight as any I have seen and we are a club that looks after its own and a lot of that stems from our coach

    A beautiful little doco.

    How many of us would love to have the same feeling of family and community that Kozzy has?

    Also, a great idea to take Clarry along - somebody at the club knows what they are doing.

    Lots of thoughts ran through my head watching that! Isn’t privilege such a tiered thing - Kozzy had a disadvantaged upbringing compared to Oliver or Goodwin, but compared to Nan he might as well have been raised in a palace. It’s so hard to fathom the idea of having to be out of town by 6pm or getting locked up. That was THIS lifetime, not some ancient history. Far out.

    Love that Goody, Clarrie and Shano took the time to head there with Kozzy and connect. The bond will run just that bit deeper with every step like that.

    Great post. 

    Kozzie rightly is so proud.  This video reminds me of the trip Jimmy took to Yuendumu with Jurrah. 

     

    As an aside, it is great to see Clarry so happy 😁; I chuckled at the 12 pieces of damper he scoffed down   Goodwin had a bit of a laugh about it ... will probably make him do 100 x 100 sprints ... to work it all off.  😊

    Whilst everybody is patting themselves on the back "on how far we have come", Indigenous players still have to put up with racist rubbish on Social Media, if you see it, call it out.

    Beautiful doco spot on in all ways with our Club showing how we can take care of some things together. 

    The bonding of Kossie and his family plus his newborn is spine tingling and tears in the eyes stuff. 

    Then to expose Clarry and Shane along with Goody is a masterstroke that will bond those guys even more with our newly emerging playing group.

    I believe we have started a rebuild on the run both on and off the field. 

    The Demon fans that are dooming and glooming are half empty doubters and thanks to 32,000 last week that atmosphere and noise with all the kids showed how good our start from our slump has been. We can again see the future with the old and new and not to bottom out. 

    This doco shows that Clubs are sometimes more than results on the field and I will be interested in what public credit our Club is given for this initiative of soul, spirit and humanity.

    THIS lifetime means the 1960s and 1970s ?

    You get to see a bit of why the players love him...and why he is so important to this team.

    The single most important aspect of being a senior AFL coach is bringing people together.

    You can have 100 assistants who are tactical masterminds, but if the senior coach doesn't have the respect, love and support of his players, the club is cooked.

    I am in agreement, I think his media persona is quite stiff and rehearsed.

    The more personal, humans side is obviously very highly regarded internally and it’s good to see that in this light.

    Kozzie could not possibly sell himself any better at the moment, he’s a very grounded and mature kid for his age and fame

    No one could survive their performances to be fair. But the Club have not been very proactive on trading recruiting or drafting and held onto some flag heroes a bit too long I fear.

    Hope they still dither a couple more years they deserve to be bottom.

    Probably due to every word and deed being heavily and sometimes venomously (in Goodwin's case) scrutinised by that same media (and others.).

      Round 9 kicks off out west with the Dockers hosting a Collingwood side resting several stars. Fremantle need to make a statement on their home deck after some disappointing form on the road, while the Magpies will be keen to maintain their Top 2 position. Friday night sees a must-win clash between two sides desperate to stay in touch with the eight. St Kilda have shown glimpses while Carlton are clinging to relevance after a flat start to the season. Saturday’s twilight game at Marvel pits the Bombers against a struggling Sydney outfit. Essendon can’t afford another close match against a lower-ranked side, while the Swans risk sliding down the ladder even further. Up in Darwin, the fourth-placed Suns will look to extend their stay in the top four. The Bulldogs have hit their stride with three big wins on the trot and will be very keen to consolidate on their momentum. The always fiery Showdown looms as pivotal for both clubs. Adelaide are eyeing a spot in the Top 4 with a win, while Port Adelaide’s season could slip away if they drop another game and fall further behind the pack. Sunday begins with a yawn fest between Richmond and West Coast. The Tigers need to bank the points to stay clear of the bottom two, while the Eagles are still chasing their first win of the year. The Giants face one of the league’s toughest road trips as they travel to GMHBA Stadium to face the Cats. With GWS at risk of a third straight loss, Geelong will be eager to consolidate their position inside the eight and start their climb up the ladder. The round wraps up with the top-of-the-table Lions heading to Ninja Stadium to take on the second-last Roos. The Lions should easily take care of the struggling Roos who might be powerless against the best in the comp. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

    • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

      Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front. They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

    • REPORT: West Coast

      On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.
