Further evidence that the inconsistences of this Basket Case Russian Roulette of a system is a disgrace. NO WAY HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN CONVICTED. I Feel for the young superstar 😇

I agree.

If he was Cripps or Daicos he wins.

Webster went low and Heeney appears to try and push away his arm, as he said in his evidence.

It’s a light blow and he doesn’t deserve to be put out of a Brownlow for a light blow that was never, ever, an offence when the Brownlow was first awarded.

Modern offences should be re classified as to whether they constitute being unfair as per the Brownlow criteria.

What happened to the “ good guy “ defence?

Over his career Heeney has shown himself to be a very fair player.  That in all probability it costs him a Brownlow seems an incredibly high price to pay for what is really incidental contact.  If Webster's nose didn't bleed there was absolutely nothing to see there. I'd be surprised is this was the intended outcome of the rule change. I hope they challenge this and bring in the Carlton lawyers.

I just had a first look at this freeze framing as much as I could.

Webster and Heeny were grappling - a one eyed Swan could even think that Henry should have received a holding off the play free - and it also looked like Webster face planted the ground as he slipped and fell.

Also, where was the Charlie Cameron "never been suspended" rule here?  Was Cameron cleared because of which team his victim played for (severe case of MFCSS here)?  Didn't Heeny  have as good or better record than Cameron who had been I believe charged and fined on multiple priors?

All this just adds to the theory fact that the MRO is absolutely clueless, and seriously compromised (as shown with the fine for chest pushing that unmentionable Collingwood player who then dived far worse than May the previous week).

Read the report of the Tribunal.

” Front on vision shows Webster bending forward lowering his head, the first contact was to Webster’s hand and then the side of Heeney’s hand was deflected to a glancing blow to Webster’s nose”.

That is not a suspension or unfairness that should rule you out of a Brownlow.

This offence didn’t exist when “best and fairest” was coined for the Brownlow.

Would Cripps or Daicos have been found guilty?

But I do think given how easy it is these days to get a 1 week suspension they need to review the brownlow rules. Getting a one week suspension now doesn’t mean you aren’t a ‘fair’ player

Would have thought the AFL Gestapo would have wanted Heeney to be cleared, given the benefits of having a Brownlow medallist in Sydney.

Like Heeney as a player, feel sorry for him.

Can I also have a bowl of that moral outrage?

He Judo chopped Webster right in the snout.

Actually surprised the AFL’s love child didn't wriggle there way out somehow.

Ahhhh ... surely he can do a Cripps and go for the technicality option.

Or is that only applicable to the Circus's favs (Carlton & the Filth)?

Looking at The Video It’s very hard to tell exactly what he did.
But it didn’t look too much

Be interesting to see if that can be challenged further

Im glad the Tribunal didn’t fold under the weight of a brownlow chance and an AFL favourite to let him off

Clear week imo

Really classy comparing the afl to the Gestapo.

so are you saying it doesn’t deserve a week or you think the brownlow rules should be changed back?

Webster was holding him back from leading to the contest. Heeney swung his arm back below shoulder level to break the hold. Webster had slipped down hence the high contact. No way Heeney would have known his head was there.

Not a fan of the suspension.

Don't care about the Brownlow. Don't care much about Heeney either.

Wouldn’t be surprised if they still get the medal in Sydney.

Heeney’s pretty unlucky here but unless the backs can spoil like the 90s, stray backhands from forwards won’t be tolerated either.
i’m still getting my head around Zerk-Thatcher not being suspended for knocking out Naughton, but I can’t be bothered looking for a replay. Good to see there can still be accidents I guess.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
