Who will Steven May kick out to then after a behind?

Seriously though its not the ruckwork we'll miss, its the around the ground marking Max does and when he gets back to help out in defence.

We are so stuffed on saturday. If only we had someone that was well established to replace him. Oh wait.

Reckon it's got to be two-pronged to cover the ruck, around the grounds and his % game time.

Fullerton and Jefferson. Schache a chance for games experience over debutant.

It makes us a really tricky prospect for Essendon because teams know exactly what Max brings and it locks us into how we play to some extent so Max out of the team throws that into complete chaos, it means the mids can just rove to Goldy or Draiper and hunt the ball and makes us much less predictable

Didnt we get smashed last year because of their two talls? I recall it was gather round and they pumped us when we were Ok and they were bad.

Oh and they have added Goldstein since then.

Yes, yes we did.

Fullerton playing his old team would be a big difference to me.

If it rains on Saturday night then we won’t miss Max as much.

Wet weather games largely take away his influence around the ground, which is contested marking. And I can’t imagine Essendon’s fleet of talls benefiting from the wet either.

We haven’t won a wet weather game since Freo in 2022, but I think we could do with one this week.

No Gawn and no Petracca. And what is the MFCs record against Scott wether it be at the druggies or North ? It will be quite a win if we get up but I won't be holding my breath.

Looking on the bright side, we did cover Oliver's absence well last year and we have found a great sub for Trac with Rivers so maybe we can pull another bunny out of the hat.  It'll be a different experience for the midfield. And also for our defence not having the champ giving them a chop out. But just maybe it'll throw Essendon out a bit too.

We recruited Fullarton - time to play him.  We miss Max in the ruck duels however even more in the back 50.  We didnt look as confident when we wasnt there in Q4 yesterday.  Another great challenge - bring it on

We're something like 1-12 against Scott.

Goodwin is 1-3 against Scott.

A lot saying Fullerton, surely it's Verral?

Personally I'd be bringing in Verral and Petty if he is good to go.  Basically have Petty play up the ground for our marking option and Verral mainly focusing on stoppages and marking Draper if he pushes deep.

Now 2-3 weeks / Injury update: Gawn sidelined

MELBOURNE AFL captain Max Gawn will be sidelined for two to three weeks, after sustaining an ankle injury in the Demons’ Round 17 win over West Coast on Sunday afternoon.

The injury occurred during the second quarter of the clash at the MCG, with Gawn later being subbed out of the match.

General Manager of AFL Performance Alan Richardson provided an update on the 32-year-old.

“Scans have today shown that Max has sustained a chip to the base of his right fibula,” Richardson said.

“While this is disappointing news for Max, fortunately he won’t require surgery.

I dont mind this, moreso with Petty and allowing him to drop back and take those big defensive grabs.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
