Only thing I can think of is that we are going smaller and mobile. and worse it sends a signal to the other talls at our club that the coaches don't rate you.

But if that’s the truth then sending  that signal may be the right thing to do (or just confirming what is already expressed internally )

It could be Petty down back and TMac in the ruck?

Toxic positivity on it's full display ladies and gents.

Hey @WalkingCivilWar, please quote me on a post I made 'bagging' a player?

Bet you can't.

Maybe spend less time trying to policing this joint and more time accepting that not every supporter needs to be a 'fan-girl' of everything MFC eh?

Wow, the sheriff of opinions comes barrelling into town, just a point you couldn't tie the shoelaces of @WalkingCivilWar as a Melbourne supporter.

I am a fan boy, I support my team no matter what,  as it is only footy, I get disappointed after a loss and enjoy the wins. It is not toxic, toxic is not allowing anybody else to have an opinion.

Back to the footy, looking forward to Roo rucking in the fwd 50, Tommy Mc in the back 50 and Petty and Turner around the ground. See what Draper thinks of that, with the occasional surprise of somebody like Clarry taking a ball up or 2

I put you in my dl purgatory level - read the posts, no emojis and no quoting.

I have enjoyed your posting and appreciated how balanced you were during the annual bye phase form drop off

You're officially out of purgatory now that I have quoted you.

Anyone remember the 2006?? final against freo when we played a big lump of a lad called Nick Smith for his first game in 3 years when Mark Jamar was injured. He got completely toweled up and we literally played a man down in a cut throat final. I think Fullerton is the new Nick Smith. For me it's a wise move. We're already missing enough talent.

Fullers was emergency last weekend. Which means he was close to getting a game. Is the MOST obvious call up for a guy who would be playing for his life. Just frustrated & dumbfounded with the decision to leave him out. [censored]

Last week Petty was injured.

No chance

Tmac is having a great season in defense and Essendon have a lot of talls we need to cover.

Random question, who was the better player? Matty Whelan or Neville Jetta?

Oooh. Great question. Love em both, but...

I'm going Whelan the wrecker for his pace and unpredictability (in a close one)

From having the best ruckman in the league to having no ruckman at all!  How would Fullarton be reflecting upon the circumstance?

be interesting to see how we go with this - a Biclavs type competition or a TMac, Petty and aJVR region approach?

it wont be won or lost in the ruck, but we are going to have to be hard at them all night.

Go Dees

It bewilders me that we didn’t pick Fullarton for this game. Why have him on the list?

Furthermore, why do we continue to play JVR in the ruck when he is clearly one of our best forwards and should now stay there? This was the time to roll the dice and keep JVR permanently forward.

Not surprised at all. Fullarton and Verrall would play as ruckman and be outclassed by a very good ruckman.

Petty, JVR and Turner will play a pinch hit ruckman, trying to nullify and add value on the ground.

It's a big blow for TF but if he didn't know already he certainly knows now where he sits.

Jetts for me. Absolute star. Loved Wheels' toughness too, don't recall him having much more speed than Jetts (who had little).

Ballsy move.

It will be interesting to see how our ruck situation plays out on game day. We haven't been making the most of Max's taps this year, but he is irreplaceable around the ground.

Will we just try and read the opposition taps like many teams do to Max?

Will we go more aggressive in the clearance battle than we have been to mitigate the damage?

How much ruck time will Petty actually play? The ruck position is so physical and Petty has been managing so many injuries over the last few years.

How can Fullarton go from emergency to not listed when Max is injured? If he isn't injured then questions need to be asked about why he was brought into the club.

If we win then Goody is a genius. If Petty gets injured or if we get smashed it will be a disaster.

Looking forward to seeing it play out.

Reckon that is the plan if we want to go more mobile!

Don't mind it. If we had a pure ruck, we would struggle to find room for Melk, JVR, Petty and Disco. By including Petty we can rotate one of the big 3 in the ruck while keeping our forward structure similar to last week.

This ensures we include our most talented and competitive players. Fullarton and Verrel are project picks, neither are ready.

Beggars belief, why do we have Fullarton and Verrall on the list?

Verall because at some point we need to replace maxy, who by the by also spent a long time in the magoos.

Fullers because he was on the market, in our price range and worth a gamble.

It's on fulllers that he hasn't made it impossible to not select with a body of work in the VFL.

What I liked about Jetta was how he made his opponents earn it.

Petty is like that too, going ever so close to being ‘too late’.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
